1.
I saw that on talkbass... great photo Far left Mk1 fretless or the purpleheart sixer would be my favourites, although that green MK3 is very tasty . Any more on the horizon?
Just a build that I have with Paul due sometime towards the end if next year.
2. To me, the top looks more like American Walnut then Shedua. I've owned both types and comparing pics, I think it's Am. Walnut. OP, should definitely take a pic of the cavity cover to confirm what type of facing this is. Electronic cavity pictures always great too!
3. Btw, any pics of your new fretless 4 in its new home?
4. Wow Kev,can't believe your parting with this one. Might be worth mentioning if you're open to shipping (internationally), since a good amount of folk here across the pond would be interested I bet, especially with that color!!!
5. @Petezzz kind of bad form to piggyback your sale on this one don't you think?? anyhu, gorgeous bass!! for viewers who are click lazy......
6. To help out my fellow Wal-nuts just wanted to document this: (I originally posted this on Talkbass, but i think fellows here have the luxury of just bringing the bass to directly to Paul - if not here ya go!!!!) So over the weekend i made it a point to work on my Wal preamp on my 89 Mk I Honduras Bass. a couple days ago i was trying out a few things and had it tuned to drop C. when i was playing it, the low C sounded like crap. to make sure it wasn't my rig or the setup, i grabbed my Black Mk I and gave it the same setup and it sounded great! Being an '89, it actually put it at the mark where it should be done anyways. Here are a couple before pics. Here is the old vs new: just a note that the old is a 4.7 uF 25V electrolytic capacitor. i replaced it with (2) 4.7 uF 35 V electrolytic capator - which Paul currently uses on all the new builds. Here is a pic of the finished install: So in summary, just wanted to post pics for those who have older Wals (80s-early 90s) since this will need to be done eventually, since aluminum electrolytic caps do have a load/shelf life. You can tell it NEEDS to be done if you have the following: the cap show sign of it detoriating/aging the sound of the bass doesn't sound like it should your getting weird popping sound its also a good idea to do it as preventative work, since it will eventually deteriorate/fail (you don't this to happen and muck up your PCB) if you are going to attempt this yourself, here is a nice tutorial i had book marked and used for reference back in my hay days at school. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCSNWi3UHf4 if you feel at all uncomfortable doing it, PLEASE get the work done by a professional.....if ya mess up i think Paul charges £50.00 -£75.00 for preamp repairs.
7.
Kev, that hit the spot.
indeeed! it hit my G-spot as well.
8. Rob, it's normal and not an abnormality. For an Mk I and Mk II, the typical electronics layout is the jack is closest to the strap pin. For an Mk III, the layout is a bit different since the body contours differently (it'll be the same for a 4, 5, or a 6 string Mk III), so the DI is closest to the strap pin.
9. Dealing with Carlos has been superb thus far, even though I do not have in possession the bass yet since it was my choice for him to send it to Martin Sims for LEDs.... We had a minor glitch when it arrived to Martin, but Carlos has been a true gentleman and a great person to deal with during the process to figuring out a solution. Communication has remained fluent throughout and nothing less than awesome!! I would definitely love to deal with Carlos again for any future deals that may come. Thanks!!
10.
Kev, remind me again why you changed bodies?
It's documented here why.... http://walbasshistory.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/wal-custom-built-basses-rarities.html
11.
Out of curiosity, who bought the '84 fretless from Bassdirect in 2013?
I believe some guy in talkbass bought it. I can't recall the name...... Were you the previous owner?
12. There's also this one in Italy 1979 WAL PRO BASS, First Serie & first year Natural,Solid Ash body, 1 HB pickup Active Circuit, RARE EX+ http://www.hendrixguitars.com/Hxbass.htm they asking for 3.295,-EUR
13.
Yes I've looked into it a bit more now and after Rob's prototype someone else here on BC has one signed off in August 1994 which looks like the first production model... but apart from those it looks like mine is next in line, made as the first of a batch of three with shedua facings. So I reckon I've got the third one built... not that it really makes any difference I'm just interested in it's history Can't be that many sixers around though... I did ask Paul if he knew what number my new one would be, but haven't heard back yet. I'm already trying to justify the next one, a fretless sixer with light coloured facings and a matching headstock
Rob i found this pic in my archived Wal folder and it was a bass listed at theBassGallery one point in time. It was listed as a 94 Mk III with Ash facing...unfortunately no serial number to identify where this goes as far as the 6er timeline, but thought it would be some nice 6er eye candy!!! Anyone here might know the story about this one???
14.
For sure. i'll hopefully get it on Tuesday, depending on the courier...i'll post it a pic of it along side the MK II V i got off Happy Jack earlier this year.
did you get it yet??
15. never seen a Wal with a solid shedua body..very unique indeed!! i gotta ask the question - how much she weigh??
16.
For sure. i'll hopefully get it on Tuesday, depending on the courier...i'll post it a pic of it along side the MK II V i got off Happy Jack earlier this year.
Sweet!!! Just in time for xmas!!
17. wow that's terrible!! first the guy shoots for the moon selling a bass and the guy never had possession of it!! that's definitely shows poor character right there. i'd be surprised and hope that everyone would be wary if he ever thinks of selling anything on BC again. @McBass got any new pics of the bass? only pics i saw of it is the ones on the old Wal registry and glimpses of the auction site. Bass seems to be elusive as Moby.
18. throwing out more candy here for this thread!!! (with one non-Wal)
19. don't think anyone knows. your guess is as good as mine, but after being scrutinized on how much this particular bass was originally purchased for by the OP and the OP not providing pics or further details on this bass, it may be safe to say W3457 went into protective custody....such a shame too
20. its actually in the old wal data base too....
21. cool!! there's a couple pics of a greenburst 6er in the Wal database: https://www4.cs.fau.de/~koesters/Privat/Wal/walspec.html the same guy that i got this greenburst from has two 6'ers himself: a purpleheart and a shedua.
22.
Is that a green MKII?
its a 98 Mk III BEM with greenburst finish i posted my NBD a couple days ago back in the Wal Club in TB.
23.
here are all my kids!
newest addition........................ `
