I have a set of D'addario XL Nickel's on this bass, and really digging them, I dont normally get on great with Nickel strings as I'm so used to Steel, but very comfy with this set!

Lovely instrument, great looks and killer tone. Oh, nice playing too!
Sweet!
Thanks man, glad you dug it!

Just finished recording this tone test, so you can hear how the bass sounds with fingerstyle, palm-muted thumb, slap!

Very nimble fingerwork there Bill.
I bet you could peel an orange underwater one handed
Haven't heard that one before, haha! Thanks! I've recently recorded a video with the pickup panned to the neck so you get a thumpier Precision sound without the Jazz bite.

Stop getting us lefties all excited about a bass, only to find out you mirrored your webcam
Apologies! haha!

Put together this video yesterday, quite new to recording so excuse the EQ! but I think it represents the tone of this bass quite well

Nice, how was this bass set up when you received it?
Was setup pretty well! action was perfect, only a few minor tweaks here and there to the intonation!

Hey Basschat, I've just started properly recording this bass and loving the bite from it! Anyone else here using a P-elite and want to share some photos/videos??
Cheers,
Bill.

do you use your jazz elite in active or passive mode?
I always use the Elites in active mode, they sound fatter that way! but the last 3 months I've been using the passive precision and got on really well with it!

Ha! The standard passive precision that people rave about and which I normally find rather dull ... in this case was spot on.
Haha - yeah sometimes I've found with the less tone controls on a bass it just sits nicer!

Sounds great
What do you have the eq settings on?
I honestly can't remember how I set it for this, as it was a long time ago, but I can hear that i've panned to the bridge pickup! :-)

Hey bill nice rig. Are you the guy who played bass for rag n bone mans Beyoncé cover for the live lounge? That’s a cracking bit of playing, that bassline.
Thanks! yes that was me - loved that arrangement! was super fun to play! :-)

So that was you on the last leg the other week? Bass sounded great; I've been trying to find that tone ever since :-). Think my basses may be too complicated !
That was me yes, and thanks! The bass I was using was a passive American standard Precision! the one on the right :-)

IMO the Black with the wood looks the coolest! :-)

Managed to get some quiet time to myself and put the headphones on the mobile.
I'm a bit of an old git so new music never really appeals to me. When I hear it on the radio I think that's pretty good but when you see and hear it live the song goes to a whole different level for me.
Is there an MD in the band or does Rory tell you the arrangement?
Yeah i agree,
Our keys player is the M.D!

Hey @Bill I had a quick look at few of your videos. Great playing and fantastic phrasing. I noticed you were playing a Streamer Stage 1. In some of them. What year was it made and what pickups does it have? How did it compare to the custom you are selling? Cheers
Thanks man - that Streamer was a 1990 model, i moved it on a few years ago when the custom shop came in, it had Nordstrand 'Big Singles' pickups installed in her, was quite similar in sound to the custom!

Saw Rag n Bone Man on the last leg, lovely, soulful arrangement of 'human'. Great set of pipes on that man and I enjoyed the bass playing too!👏👍
Thanks mate - i was really happy with how the mix on that one came out especially as it was a live broadcast jobby, hoping it might turn up on YouTube at some point!

That's an amazing rig! How about sharing a clip of you playing through it with your band?
Thanks - i have a few clips here from different points of view, but they won't do it full justice of course!

Haha! Proper old school, well other than the techie platform. Quite curious about that for sure.
Its a useful bit of gear in the right setting! the first time i tried it was just at a friends house, bass only and didn't really like it! but when you put it in a band situation, it feels great and keeps you locked in nicely with the drummer, aswell as feeling all the subtleties of your own playing right through your feet!

And I always thought those were to compensate when you didn’t have, say, a huge great 8x10 right behind you!
To be honest its mainly to feel the drums! I have both snares and kick drum going through this thing, so when i'm far away from him on bigger stages i get a really good feel of what is going on!

Good grief - my whole band usually has to set up in a smaller space than that, and we're a five piece!
What's that between the stack and your pedal board - it's not a butt kicker type thing is it?!
Yes its a Porter & Davies KT Platform, here is a better photo of it!
