  1. Anyone else here using one of these? i've had one for around a year now and its been a great bit of kit for tracking a solid D.I at home and on the move, I'm using logic all the time to create music and have still not yet purchased a bigger interface because this has been so clean!

My stank face was strong when watching this!

Haha, glad you dug it Cameron, just a random jam in E! i was really feeling the Pick on this vid, but have found the fingers to suit other things when it comes to warmth and attack.

Great stuff Bill. Might you do some thumb style stuff, I play pretty much exclusively with my thumb, instead of fingers a la Sting and Paul Simonon. Get a bigger, rounder and fuller tone.

Thanks man - i  actually did a vid a few months ago on this bass with thumb style playing, linked below 🙂

Great playing but a bit of sustain is always nice when demonstrating tone! Both sound great. I’m trying to persuade myself I don’t need a mustang and this hasnt helped!

Will keep this in mind for the next vid :)

My old Limelight P had a great range of tones, brilliant both for tone rolled off muted Motown fingerstyle, and tone full up rock and indie picking.   My USA Fender P probably has a better fundamental tone which sounds great whatever, but doesn’t have the variation of the Limelight.   Plus, of course, you can beat the utter crap outa the Limelight without worrying about dings and scratches...

I also love how light this bass is, its by far the lightest Precision i've played!

  6. Hey basschat, thought it would be only fair to try this bass out with a pick and A/B next to the fingerstyle tone, since i've not yet done a Precision video in this style.. i've also attached a DI recording of the fingerstyle going into Logic with no extra EQ (i'll be doing the same with the Pick so it really represents the pick tone)

Both sound superb, couldn't say which is better, I prefered the pick for the attack

    Very nice playing !

Cheers Adee, yeah the pick definitely has more attack, i'm coming round to the pick thing a little more after completely neglecting it for 15 years! 🙂

Very nice, as a recent convert to Mustangs for gigging purposes I can really appreciate this.

Thanks man, i've had her for just under a year now and only used it for studio / jamming / practice stuff, yet to try out on a gig!

  9. For a bit of fun, thought it may interest some people doing these videos with a few of my basses, this is my 1978 Mustang bass that i picked up from Chicago Music Exchange last year, i really dig the pick on this thing, but the fingerstyle records beautifully and has a lot of thump!

Crazily £350 about 10 years ago due to the mods and overall condition. The finish is dreadful but doesn’t show up in pics, but I have no intention of tarting it up.

On account of the pickup (which is without doubt the hottest pickup I’ve encountered) sonically it’s the opposite of versatile. But if growly and raspy is what works (which it does in my current band) it’s superb.

YOB bass for me too so won’t ever be moved on...

Wow, that is cheap compared to the price they're going for these days, i dig the black ones just as much as the natural bodied rippers.

I’m a fingerstyle player all the way but on my ‘76 Ripper it just doesn’t cut it. Definitely needs a pick. But then, there isn’t another Ripper quite like mine. It came to me like this. God it’s a state but I love it to bit!

That is a beauty, love the cream pickup against the black body! lovely!

    How much was she?

  12. Hey Basschat,  i did one of these with the Mustang and thought it would be cool to do the same for the Ripper! i personally prefer and really like the sound of the pick on this bass (coming from a 99 percent fingerstyle player)

What are you guys feeling? oh and also feel free to share pics and vids of your Ripper basses.

Wow, blown away by your left hand muting technique.  Outstanding!

    Thanks mate! :)

  14. Hi Basschat! I recently purchased a beautiful Ocean Turquoise 4-string jazz elite bass, and had our monitor engineer send a desk recording from one of our recent shows @ Alexandra Palace, I'm super happy with how its tracking in a live situation, thought I'd share it and have this thread for other people to share their live recordings of their Elite's! (precision + Jazz)
