  1. Sorry that wasn't my question. I'm asking what the main ton and treble contols are meant to do becaue I can't hear any difference
  2. https://open.spotify.com/album/11GubgranwP3axTL22uz8d
  3. If there's anyone out there that's familiar with this bass and these controls https://www.sire-revolution.com/product/sire-marcus-miller-m2/ Can they explain how they work? They don't seem to do anything, whether or not in passive or active. Admittedly I have a crappy guitar practice amp right now, so I don't expect audio miracles, but surely they are meant to do something? Everything else seems to work fine and sounds ok so I can't imagine there's a fault. Thanks
  4. Is there an amount of fret buzz that is acceptable?
  5. Can you achieve that with a ruler? Most people don't have (I assume) those specific radius measuring tools. Won't find them in B&Q!
  6. In terms of numbers, is 2.25mm considered low action?
  7. Can we confirm whether or not it's true that fret buzz in the upper register can be caused or is a symptom of excessive relief?
  8. I didn't mean literally I meant using a straight edge to detet any abnormalities. I couldn't, but that doesn't mean there aren't any
  9. How high should frets be? To my admittedly untrained eye, they don't seem uneven. Anyway, I can't do much about that until I can get it looked at so I'll do what I can
  10. i found some feeler guages in town today so I'm going to have a proper go, John Carruthers recommends .15 inch. However i have read that fingerboard radius determines the standard. In my case .12 (source: the fender document I'm sure everyone's seen). So what's the advice when you set the relief to that amount and you still get buzz?
  11. That's very kind but I'm not going to be able to get into Bristol right now
  12. That would be great if possible. Otherwise i'll just have to save my pennies and have a word in town. I think the truss rod is set pretty correctly. I've lowered the action to where I want it, and it's not too bad. The buzz is more noticable when not amplified but it would be nice to have experienced hands take a gander
  13. Isn't correct relief a funcion of preference (within reason)? Standard measurements are obviously useful, but many guides also say that it's subjective. One person's clearance might not work for another if they are slamming it like Geezer Butler, for example. No?
  14. I live in north somerset. I'm afraid I can't afford a pro at the moment. It woudl be a good idea, when I can, to get someone to look at it. I'm sure it's nothing as major as that
  15. Sure, but what happens if, having set the relief accordingly, you're still getting buzz? Are there some basses that just can't handle a low action? What is the reasoning behind the idea that relief must be set correctly (given that it can be subjective) before tending to string height?
  16. I'd like the same set up, but I'm getting buzz mainly around the 12th fret. Is that too much relief?
  17. I've askethis before, possibly elsewhere, but how do you determine when you should create distance between fret and string through truss rod and string action
  18. i've noticed many people say the relief should measure the thickness of a credit card, but that's actually twice what your guy in that clip recommends. What are these standard measurements based on?
  19. I thought relief only affected the lower frets, either way
  20. Not wanting to spend is not the same as not having the means to spend. There is a difference which has been made clear every time I have posted. I have never said I do not have tools for this job. I have a key for the truss rod and the saddles and have never said otherwise.
  21. Short of filing or stoning the frets, what can be done to alleviate fret buzz at the 12th and beyond if you want to lower action even further? Or is that just the practical limit of any guitar?
  22. Sire have just informed me (which is pretty cool of them) that it's gloss. Satin is used on subsequent versions, but mine is v.1
  23. Well, anchoring per se isn't bad since most bass players (I would assert) do it and they don't all suffer. So it depends how hard you play or stress your digits. Anchoring doesn't mean gluing to the pickup and contorting your hand. I move my thumb usually between pickup and a string.
