1. I use a Shadow and an Underwood. The shadow is a bit better IMHO so I keep the Underwood as a spare There is a big difference between using a single pickup and a double like the Underwood. Some people say they use the Underwood with only one of the elements attached. I tried this and the sound changed dramatically. I couldn't get used to it, more woody, body, less sustain, so I have always been put off trying a BassMax. The Full Circle seems too much hassle as I don't have, need, or want a bridge adjuster fitted It seems that the proximity of the pu to the strings and bridge has a big influence on sound, Realist -; FullCircle -; Bassmax. But then using two elements makes another tonal change. I have read that some use two singles and blend them with a preamp. Recently I changed my Shadow twin element pu around, turned it the right way up, and the sound improved giving a bit less string and a bit more body to the sound. have you tried flipping your Bass max? Not sure if any of this helps but it is worth considering trying a twin element pu if you can borrow one for a while Adrian
2. Hi I have a Wilkes frettless bass. The neck is beautiful, with an ebony fingerboard and has those metal plates at the bottom. there is a pickup behind these plates and a soap bar type pickup on the body. The bridge is almost certainly not the original which left the low E string not really sitting over the pickup pole. I replaced the pickup years ago which helped. The bridge is one of those with small wheels to adjust the spacing. Are theses basses meant to have a narrow string spacing? Does anyone know whether original bridges can be purchased? Also, is it possible to have the body refinished as it has been a casualty of someone who liked stripping and painting things purple! (previous owner of course) I am thinking about selling it as I don't use it much anymore so want find out a bit more about what I have got and whether it is worth me fixing it up. 3. The cab is almost sold - I'll know by the weekend The Peavey needs a home. I've got nowhere to keep it and don't use it much now. I would accept a trade for something on the Peavey
4. SWR Electric Blue amp head **NOW TRADED*** £250 plus postage Tube preamp with 12ax7 Two inputs, one passive, one passive/active 120 watts at 8 ohms, 160 watts at 4 ohms. semi-parametric EQ, bass, mid, and treble with bypass effects loop with bypass/blend Balanced and unbalanced outputs Adjustable XLR output with pad Tuner out I have been using this as a spare for years so it has been well kept and not seen much action. It is a great little amp, light weight, in good condition and has that SWR sound. I think it is pretty rare. It is basically the amp section of the famous Baby Blue combo. Comes in it's own flight case with the original typed manual here are some reviews / info http://www.talkbass....ric-blue/cat/25 http://www.harmonyce...products/123372
5. I live in Wells, about 25 miles south of Bristol. Happy to arrange a try out. Not sure about postage. I'll check out Interparcel. I don't see why not if it is straight forward enough...
6. Hi I am selling my trusty Peavey combo and Ashdown ABM 210H cab Peavey Combo - £75 -------- PRICE DROP £60 ----------- Bullet proof, sounds great and able to handle pub gigs without hooking up to the PA. This combo is 80 Watts but I think they are whats known as 'old school' watts. This thing is loud and has a warm sound. 15 inch Sheffield driver. Perfect for gigging and rehearsing for someone who wants a good sound without breaking the bank. (I am talking this combo up as I do love the sound but don't get to use it much as I mainly play double bass) I have taken the Peavey logo off (I may be able to find it if that is an issue) and have cut the power cable and fitted a 3 pin socket so that you can use a standard mains cable (kettle lead) This tucks away nicely at the back. Ashdown ABM 210H cabinet - £100 ******SOLD******* Early model but not used that much really. I bought this new back around 1990 and used it 10 or so times. 300 Watts plus horn with switch. I moved the feet to the side for a while when I used it more recently with double bass so there are four small holes on the side. Other than that it is in good condition - I am putting both on Ebay soon but I thought I would give BC a go first Collection only please. 7. Yes please. Do you think your set would still give me an idea of sound/playability etc? (I know Obilgatos don't last for more than a year) How much do you want for them?
8. I kinda guessed there would be more to it than a simple swap. Thanks for the advice I don't know why I want to mess with such a great sounding combo anyway..plus carrying around keeps me fit.
9. Has anyone tried swapping drivers for a Neo? I see that an Eminence Neo 10" 150W is only £79 so I am considering putting one in my EA iAmp 350 combo (The combo sounds great but weighs in at 59 lbs...maybe we need another thread for heavy kit!) I love the sound of the combo (for double bass) so I don't want to mess it up but I do have to warn others not to try and lift it as it can do serious damage. I haven't weighed the driver thats in it but its one of those with a tweeter screwed into the back so it must be pretty heavy
10. Hi I would love to try these strings. Full set or just the D and G. As long as they have some life left in them I'll take them I have Spiro Weich and recently tried Obligato D and G to get more of a click at the start of notes cheers Adrian
