  1. Hey guys, what's the difference in sound/tone between these on the same Fender Jazz? I've got maple on my P and like the feel of it and I seem to get less Fretbuzz with it. It feels like the clear coat has gone over the frets. I'm after a White Jazz now, rosewood looks better I think but I'll go for the maple if it gives a warmer tone. I suspect rosewood wood be better for slap.

  2. Yep I had to tweak my 2012 AM Standard P out of the case... Everything in fact, truss rod, saddles, intonation and I fiddled with the pick up height as well. But got to say that since I put the La Bella flats on it, I love it. Sounds great and it's got the lowest action of all my basses. So much so that I'm starting to flog off my other basses.

  3. I'll be joining the club next bass guys :-) really fancy a Fender white jazz. The classic white jazz seems to have a tort pick guard and a rosewood neck but I really like the feel of a maple neck on my P Bass. White Jazz with a maple neck ... Hmmm dunno.

  4. I tried a later model a couple of weeks back. A drummer brought it over. He had bought it on eBay. It needed a truss rod adjustment but the intonation was spot on. Sounded good too ... Not much different from my new Warwick Star Bass. The bass player in the Strypes uses one.

  5. Cranes Cardiff have them and the last time I popped in about 2 months ago, they were reduced to about £750. I tried a black one with an Epi Jack Casady. It sounded ok but I didn't like the very narrow pickup on it as a thumb rest so I gave it a miss. I did prefer the sound to the epi but I prefer the Warwick Pro Star Bass I bought instead. They do look cool though, especially the headstock

    More

I have asked the mods to unstick last years Bash thread and replace it with this one, just to stop any confusion.

Time for another Gelfin? Maybe end September or October? Since the last I've got a Warwick Pro Star Bass and Epi Thunderbird Classic Pro 1V with Gibson pickups I can bring. Wouldn't mind another go on your Rickie. Still tempted but unsure :-) Christmas is coming :-D

I'd say your pretty much on the money! I would definitely add transcription into your routine though. I found writing down music has helped my reading/understanding of notation so could be two birds with one stone =)

What's the best way to do that lobematt? I haven't tried it yet but I am trying to pick out the bass lines in music and trying to think if it's a 3/5/7 etc and whether the note has gone up or down. Ta :-)

  8. What kind of sound do you get from a flanger and how does it differ from a phaser? I've got a diago pedalboard arriving and I'm starting to acquire pedals. Got an ashdown LoMenzo distortion, a fender frv1 reverb arrived today and a boss chromatic tuner coming. Probably get an envelope filter next for a bit of fun. Maybe a chorus and I should be sorted then...maybe :-)

    Boss /Fender 63 Reverb pedal.

Just like a proper 63 Reverb Tank

Decided to give this a try thanks. Its on its way from Guitar Guitar :)

  10. Thanks Mart. I'm on crutches for the next 4 weeks at least anyway and just missed the South Wales Bass players thing last week :( Got a lot of time on my hands over the next weeks so I'll be practising and internet shopping :D

  11. Tell me about acoustic bass please guys. eg Why would you want to get one? Can you get a double bass sound out of one? What kind of music would it be good for? ..what are the good points and bad points ? Looks like you can't adjust for intonation? I know nothing about them

I'm thinking perhaps it would be good for practice just to pick it up unplugged ; plugged I might be able to get a double bass sound out of it ; maybe it would be good for Country and Folk or something, possibly Blues??

Any recommendations in the £300 area?

Know anything about the Fender Hot Rod T-Bucket Bass E 3TSB ? Can't find a utube on it.

    Thanks :)

  12. I've got the Epi classic pro 1V with the Gibson pick ups and it sounds good :-). Quality is very good on mine but it does have a dip or mark under the clear coat on the headstock but you can't notice it unless you really look ..Set up from the factory wasn't good but soon remedied. I'd get the best pick ups you can afford .... I've got the sunburst but the white looks really cool... Saw a guy on Jools with one a few months back
