Done a bit more fiddling, it seems if from a restart I open the editor first, then plug in the midi adapter, then the FI it seems happy. Fingers crossed it keeps working! Done some more playing (as in actual bass playing) and it really does work and sound great.
-
Thanks, that's interesting, I do use chrome so that could be contributing.

Starting to get very frustrated with the reliability of the editor, you can see why the plug and play of the MXR is winning even though I think the FI is probably the better pedal. I can install the editor no problem, it works as it should, no problems connecting to the pedal, uploaded and downloaded sounds, but once I've used it once it just won't open again. I can reinstall and it works again, but again only once and then that's it. Not endearing me at all. edit: hmmm, it's something to do with the midi adaptor, it also made reaper stop booting, but unplugged and restarted Windows both will open again... maybe i just need to figure out the mystery sequence I need to start programs and plug things in in!

I wish I was hip enough to say “I picked this up when I went to a synth convention in Berlin”. 😂
-
Pretty sure UDHR is one of the FM parameters. 😅
-
Sorry, yes that’s what I mean. That’s really cool as long as it can be saved to the patch. I was thinking it might have a slider in the editor to set a specific velocity level like the Volca FM does.
-
I would want to be able to but also want it to be able to work at a fixed level, depends what you are doing. For a lot of 80s bass lines you want the sound to be very consistent.
-
So, does that mean you can set it at a fixed velocity if you want to?
-
A question that just sprang to mind, how does the FM stuff work on the FI when it comes to velocity? The original DX7 sounds like E.BASS 1 for example change timbre quite significantly, is it something you can set at a level or does it change with how hard you play?
-
Are these all played on a bass?
-
Yeah absolutely, I play synth all the time but programming patches is my least favourite aspect of it. Good presets are a must and that’s where the MXR (with very strong marketing) has convinced people. As for trying to program FM… no thanks! 😅
-
Please!

Really appreciate your efforts to push the product in the right direction, like you said earlier maybe the MXR was needed to show what the market wants. The addition of FM is just a dream bonus that I never imagined would be possible.

Very quick first impressions after a 10 minute play around are that it might be really good. It’s still not the most attractive pedal but miles better than the bigger one. Patch handling is clearly far superior to the MXR. Better info on the pedal with screen and input level lights. Tracking seems to be at least as good, my gut feeling is better but not had long enough a play to say for sure. Patches are a weak point currently, too many silly ones, not enough (or maybe just too spread out) useable ones for playing actual bass lines. But the 4.5 update could push this miles in front of the MXR I’d say, particularly if the DX7 stuff tracks as well as the current patches.

Yes, it’s true, early March is all I’ve seen, no specific date.
-
Mine is due tomorrow and I still have the MXR to compare it to, although really it’s what the FI is like with the new update that I’m most interested in. But I’ll post some initial impressions when I’ve had a play.

Fender Pino Palladino Custom Shop ..... Machine Head question..
mattpbass replied to Pirellithecat's topic in Bass Guitars
Pretty sure Bass Direct only sell secondhand Fender. -
Damn, wish I’d known that before ordering yesterday! 😭

Yeah I understand that it’s a synth, I just meant I use a physical keyboard (including a Subsequent 37 amongst others), which from a playing precision side of things is still a lot less compromised compared to a bass and pedal, including this MXR pedal, and I assume the FI4 too.
-
I do currently, only intend to keep one, but I’ll report back when I have both to compare. For context I play actual bass synth on every gig currently, not wanting or expecting these to be as good or replace that, just a fun alternative to play around with.
-
never mind, answered my own question, March. I’ve ordered a VIP so let’s see how it compares!
-
Yeah the new FI4 update looks good, when is it out? I’m tempted to pick up a VIP to compare, I had a 3 a while back but be interesting to see how much better things are now. And the DX7 addition is great, Danger Zone ahoy! 😅

Thanks dude, that’s the hope. I ran the Capo for a couple of years by itself and got so used to the little bit of hair it adds to your sound that I missed it when I just used the Noble by itself. Obviously the Noble has definitely got it’s own charm to add, so the two together has worked really well but it does feel like overkill having both, on the face of it this might be a great solution that sounds as good, but simplifies my overall setup. We shall see, kicking myself for not getting in the first batch now! 😅
-
Now that these are a bit more freely available I picked one up a couple of weeks ago, and my impressions so far are kind of what I expected… it’s fine at what it does. To get some synthy sounds for a non synth playing bass player it’s probably the best compromise I’ve tried between form factor, quality of sounds, tracking, ease of use. Does it sound or track way better than a Future Impact (or any other solution I’ve tried)? I’d say no, but it’s a lot less fugly, and more fun to twiddle with than having to fire up an editor. Definitely feels a bit Emperor’s new clothes to me though, I’ll not be ditching the real synths for this.
-
I’ve succumbed to the hype and ordered one! Currently running a Capo into a Noble on my board, thinking this might replace the Noble. I love the saturation of the Capo with the added mojo of the Noble, but having a second input at the end of the chain would be very useful being as I am on synth bass on every gig too. Currently have to carry a separate DI and use two channels, be easier to just have it all on one DI for gigs we are mixing ourselves. Be very interested to see what you think vs the Noble Paddy.
