  1. Well, it's been over a week since I did the trade now, and while I may not have ended up with the "better" of the two basses, the Jazz is infinitely more comfortable for me to play, I'm having a lot more fun with it because it doesn't feel like I'm battling with it anymore. The tone still has enough of the clank I was looking for in the MusicMan, but not quite as pronounced which is sitting a bit better in the mix now. Overall, I'm pretty happy.

The only thing that's irritating me is the white pick guard. I've been desperately looking for a black one but can't seem to find one that fits correctly anywhere. Any ideas other than getting one made up?

Have you tried a musicman Sterling? All the musicman goodness but with a jazz width neck.

A Sterling was one of my lines of enquiries but I haven't found one nearby unfortunately.

Generally CIJ/MIJ Fenders have excellent build quality, but many people regard the pickups as being the weak link. The fact that these have been replaced (whether "upgraded" or not depends on your own personal preference for pickup manufacturers...) should mean that you have a great bass with great pickups. Price-wise, I'm not sure the J would be worth quite as much as your 'Ray though ;)

I think you should be getting a US Fender Jazz for the trade value of your Musicman.

There's a cash adjustment of £150 coming my way on top of the trade as well to even out against my asking price, which I found to be pretty fair.

  3. Back in December I acquired a gorgeous MusicMan Stingray 3EQ that I instantly fell in love with, but after getting so used to a jazz neck profile in the year or so before, switching to a precision width neck really did my wrist in, and effectively gave me RSI. Pain started out in the wrist, shot up my arm and then ended up doing both my neck and shoulder in.

As much as I love the Musicman, I've agreed a trade with a gentleman who contacted me via Facebook for a MIJ Fender Jazz, modded with Bartolini pickups. A Jazz Deluxe was my second choice when I was hunting for the MusicMan and this seems like a great deal to me (a trade of basses and a decent cash adjustment my way).

Unfortunately, I don't know a huge amount about Japanese Fenders and with the seller's permission, I've uploaded the photos he's provided just to make sure all is okay with it before I meet up with him tonight for the trade. I've already verified the serial number online that says the bass was indeed made in Japan between 1993 and 1994, but if anyone can share any advice or "gotchas" I'd really appreciate the assistance.

  4. Hello all

Thought I'd share this with you all. This is a track from my band Walk In Coma's first release since 2012, and am particularly proud of how this song came out. The EP is called Narrenturm and we're looking towards an April/May release.

    All feedback welcomed!

    Cheers

  5. I think the guy in the Apple store is full of s**t. Logic Pro X is obtained via the App Store, which means it gets added to your Purchased apps, which means you can sign in with your Apple ID and download and install it on, to be honest, as many computers as you want, just like everything else you buy from the App Store.

  6. What are the bridges like on these basses? I'm looking for a top-end 5 string for GCGCF tuning and am curious as to whether something like this would be able to take a .150 for the low G and .130 or .120 for low C respectively, without bridge or nut modifications.

  7. Just an update to this thread everyone, I bit the bullet and went out and bought one.

I've set it up exactly how I planned; my wireless receiver is first in my chain, then into Input 2 at the back of the Korg, then to my pedals, then to my amp. Works brilliantly, the mute button on the tuner works as it should, no degradation in quality or loss of tone, and I've got the cool light show going on behind me. Very happy with it.

  8. I've had this sitting in a drawer for a couple of years after replacing it with a Boss TU3 and could do with the pennies for it so here it is. Sorry, no photos right now but will take some as soon as I get home from work.

I'll be honest - it's not the best tuner in the world. If you're using it on bass, it'll tune standard EADG without any hassle, but it gets fussy and finds it hard to track anything below that so if you're dropping down to D or lower, this isn't the tuner for you. As far as I'm aware, the same goes for guitar too but I could be wrong.

Don't have the original packaging but it'll be securely packaged for postage, or collection from Southend and I'll knock a fiver off the price.

    Otherwise, £15 posted. Cheers.

Another rack fan here. Got mine a few months ago.

8u rack on castors with Hartke LH500, 2u drawer, power distribution strip with lights. Korg Pitchblack pro incoming. Want to get a rack compressor too.

Yes it's weighty, but the castors make it an easy push. Two leads to plug in and it's already to make noise :)

May I ask what model rack you're using and where you got it from please? :)
