Argh, the exact price I said to myself would be a bit too much to afford. It's strange, could I really say it's £650 better than the Kramer? I mean with other basses I can say 'well it's better woods, better electronics' but with a passive precision where does the extra money go?

No, its just that I've got the gain for the pre set nicely with my bass and I've got a Sansamp BDDI in the effects loop, I was just uncertain as to whether this meant that I could whack up the input level or whether I had to watch out for some issues (which evidently I do)

I have a BT1 on my 79 Ray and it looks the part. Only slight issue is that the stem of the tuner is sliiiiightly longer than the rest of them, but its hardly noticeable

This. Had a twiddle onj one recently and the EQ is just brilliant, I found it tough to get a bad sound out of it (and I'm always trying my hardest ). They are really really fantastic.

I'm having similar thoughts, if it was just lefty I'd be all over that but the fret markers are just ghastly

fair enough, the gain on the amp has a clip light, will that signal if the power stage is clipping to or should I look for another indicator? Or is it just a matter of waiting until the speaker starts farting at me?

Quick question, if I have a pedal in the effects loop, can I therefore chuck the gain on the pedal up to max without worrying about the amp clipping or am I being thick?

I agree in terms of their amps, had a Behringer 15" combo and it was ridiculously heavy and really quiet for its supposed large wattage. Plus there are numerous stories of their reliability issues. Definitely a good idea to get a 410 though, they sound huge even with heads that aren't particularly powerful. The brand I turn to when I want relative cheapness with a decent sound is Ashdown, their MAG range is great for the price IMO.

Might be running against the grain here, but despite how much I [i]want[/i] to like Jazz basses, every single one I've played has been pants. Something about the tone seems lacking- only Jazz I've heard come close to remedying this problem had a J-retro and then I realised the reason I liked the tone was because it was getting progressively more like a Precision.

Can I just mention that were you to want to do a straight sale (and give yourself the option of buying what you want) on the forum the bass would most likely garner a lot of interest, not least from me

The piano is not such an issue with the keys laid out in front of you.
There are a lot of true left handed players who never took up the violin in a true lefty fashion because the option was never there, so you rarely see them.
If I never had the option to play a left handed bass I probably would have bought a right hander a turned it upside down.

When I first started bass, playing right handed felt wrong and left handed felt correct. Can't say why exactly, but then again I can't say why I feel my left hand is more dextrous than my right. I probably should have learnt right handed to gain access to a wider market, but then again I know for a fact that I've saved money because of the lower availability of left handed basses in the model I want.
Something that I've often thought though, is would I be the same player if I learnt right handed? I'm not sure that I'd be able to do what I can now were I forced to use my hands the 'wrong way round' even with practice.
Also, if we turned this around and the world was largely left handed and the market reflected that, would the right handers on this board have learned lefty? Would you have had the tenacity to keep playing in the early days if you had the added difficulty of everything you're playing feeling really strange to play?
I think that's one of the major reasons, people who take up bass without being 100% enamoured with it initially (as I know I was like) would be way more likely to just say 'stuff it I'm watching TV instead' if it felt unnatural as well as difficult to do.
