good for you Hot Tub
which reminds me of Eddie Murphy approximating James Brown on SNL
I take reading as a skill that works with identified targets. So it is incorporated into something "concrete" not "abstract" as in I say I can read.
I can read because I want to play these Jamerson lines out of SITSOM book, or get session work, or appear like I am into Jazz
if I ritualized the practice it makes it more real...maybe...it has a pay-off immediate but also is an obvious "cross-referenced" skill.
and it's real practice too... it really does get in... which is another reason why TAB sucks...IMHO opinion you will remember what you learn to read for "life" not for one gig of the Tab I downloaded. -
as I've got older and more "into" Jazz I've come to appreciate the pentatonics a bit more.
one thing is to use them from "different" starts.
so for example we can use the minor pentatonic on a major chord, starting from the 6th
chord is Abmaj...start the minor pentatonic from the F (F = 6th of Ab major)
on a dominant chord try the b3 to get an altered sound
and on half diminished go from the 4th
something to try anyway.
The Melodic Minor I agree is very important and well worthy of serious exploration
I think it is important to have a go at this, it's chock full of goodness. -
also
arpeggios from the 3 not the root
3 - 5- 7- 9
like this Open E string exercise and singing along, it may help your ears "settle" or "fix" as you do minor or major modes. You got to be able to hear the difference.
Got= I think it's important. -
it's good to practice this stuff in the cycle of fourths
because the I-IV movement is also the "position" of II-V which is Jazz City -
for a mellow Marcus
cop his Modulus Fretless Shenanigans on Legends DVD
Miller + Gadd is Mighty Good -
Levine yes a good one for sure
maybe Charlie Banacos too, I know Jeff Berlin digs him
so maybe we want to tone down all this key center stuff
how about harmonic generalization? -
a chap at work today
he's hard as nails like
I thought he was going to cry explaining how watching the LC DVD made him feel.
I better pop around Ma+Pa's next weekend and have a gander. -
Jerry Jemmott's '64 Jazz
he used on BB King's "Completely Well".
apparently some bastard nicked it.
I'd like to see it returned to him. -
my old man has been to literally thousands of gigs
and he says this Leonard Cohen stuff was at the top of the pile. A+ stuff.
a spiritual experience by all accounts. -
I used mine to admonish a bus driver sailing past me at the stop the other night.
slightly more on topic, yes it is perfectly sensible to consciously not use the digits of the hand articulating notes on your instrument. I also practice in front of a full length mirror after a rigorous bout of GRIPMASTER but before my 45 MINUTE SPEED TAPPING REGIME. -
Miles Davis
a tribute to Jack Johnson
hand it up for Henderson
slightly more modern I quite like Pino Palladino on the live John Mayer album
and Prince + Levi Searcer JR going to town on the Black Album
lyrics a bit rough but the band is smoking.
upright
maybe Jimmy Garrison on "Coltrane" I like him with Jones... it's just so good. -
good for you
Chromes on a P for me is soul city
also I find myself in agreeably with the BBC. I will not send him a photo however. -
I could not listen to More FM
it would make me cry, I think. -
well it beats crying for sure
Chch does have it's class system and some pretty blatant racism that goes hand in hand with such societal orders but I can't think of a better place to raise the Whanau
school is 2 mins walk
beach is 4 mins walk
kindy was the same
tennis club 10 mins walk
football club 15 mins
I can Bus to work for only $21/week
you can't run a car for that homeslice
cycling is a snip 'cods the place is predominantly flat
Chch fan club starts here -
Christchurch is a great place to live
it's not like the 1950's at all
I should know because I was born in 1972. -
good for you Monz
I love a happy ending
well nearly there I guess, gigging to test etc
score! -
must be a lot of poor cabinet design with smaller than 15" speakers in them then. Commonly would it not be accurate to state that cabinets with 15" or larger drivers handle a low B string better? It may be plop but I'd wager most players wanting the Low B would also consider using 15" speaker as par for the course.
the blanket was more to do with the Original Post. As in the asked for Quick Fix I was not providing in any way
Notch Filter? No, thanks for the tip though. Generally I buy gear that is a nice color, is used by someone famous I like, or in this case, I had room on my pedal board -
there is a cool thread on TB about his Steinberger
that live album I hear Honky Tonk Woman on the radio last week
good stuff -
well the Boss PQ-3B is on my pedal board
and I think 5 string bass means 15" speakers.
potentially not as cheap a solution as a blanket under your cabinet though. -
that Vibrator bass line is a good one.
er, sort of A minor (Dorian) to cover the whole cut really.
the notes from that will cover the whole piece anyway it's all the feel.
I do like the chromatic pick-up to the octave. -
I'll put the kettle on then
if ya late ya suppers in the microwave
don't forget to turn the outside light off.
how many Christchurch BC'ers? -
Christchurch used to have it's very own Wizard
who had printed a map of the world
which looked a lot like the one shown in this thread -
Boss CEB-3
you can gig with it, it wont break.
like nearly every Boss Bass Pedal I have tried it takes some farting around to get the sound...but I only need it to make one good sound so it's good value. If I need a chorus that has to do 6 different types I would probably have looked elsewhere.
but for the outlay it's great value. -
James Eller did a world tour with Matt Johnson, they played here in Christchurch Aotearoa
Sweet Bird of Truth hit like a ton of bricks
the cat on keys did a good job on Holland's way cool "Uncertain Smile" solo.
but most importantly I got to touch Johnny Marr's Nike adorned foot that is a claim to fame Irene Cara would be proud of.

that is II-V city
have a go at the Abersold playalongs
these are invaluable IMO
All the Things you Are
nice chords too
II-V-I might identify Jazz as much as I-IV does the blues
