1. For my 62 ish P-Bass build bridge I bought a used 62 RI and replaced the barrels from all parts http://www.allparts.uk.com/online-shop/guitar-bass-parts/guitar-bass-parts-general/bridges-parts-tailpieces/bridge-parts/saddles-for-bass/bass-bridge-barrels-vintage-style-4-p-2019.html and it looked really good and quite cheap,.

I used a Mighty Mite neck and although the plastic cover does look odd you get used to it, but these necks are fantastic.

I also bought genuine Fender 60s reverse tuning Machine heads and had to drill extra holes for the posts which was a little awkward.

heres the link to my 62ish build http://basschat.co.uk/topic/202190-62ish-precision-build/page__fromsearch__1 I've since replaced the scratchplate for a more authentic looking one.

I know you said you've bought a body, but if you know you want to refinish it, wouldn't it make more sense to just buy an unfinished body, e.g MightyMite, or one of those kits from Thomman?

it's mainly down to cost, the cost of the body and the paint required should cost me around £70 tops. A mighty Mite Body for example would be £120+ shipping costs from the US plus any tax fees (I've never seen these bodies for sale in the UK).

You then have the argument of the extra cost v labour but I think there is more enjoyment in doing the paint job yourself be it a pain to do so, plus you could spray it a colour you like.

3. I've just bought an alder sunburst SX P-Bass body off Fleabay for my next build (57 P-Bass in Fiesta Red).

On a previous build, I stripped the bass down to the wood and re-painted but was a real PIA and time consuming, my thoughts this time, is to just strip off the lacquer sand smooth and then apply the undercoat/paint/lacquer etc.

Has anyone done one this way, recommended?

Cheers

I really liked the sound of these on the You tube demo video, does it sound as good in the flesh?

If you find it is there any way I could possibly get hold of a copy? I love Renaissance but have never seen it. PM me if necessary.

+1 :)
Love Renaissance, I've have all their CDs but no DVD/Videos :(.

A VERY underrated band and yes, Annie is a hot.

Nice!! You really can't beat that classic look.

Thanks.

I do like your 2 P-basses, I'm ooming and arring on whether to start on a 59 P-Bass next and as you say and I've experienced on my last build, it's getting the period parts at a reasonable price and avoiding imports If you can (duty).

I was thinking of Olympic white with gold scratch plate and maple fretboard for my 59, but then I do like your fiesta red one but with a tort scratch plate (like Pino's).

7. Here's my Jamerson 62 tribute, all Fender parts apart from the body (alder) and scratch plate and all period correct, even the screws are all nickel.

Couldn't afford an all parts neck so settled for a Mighty Mite one, so not 100% correct but plays and sounds fantastic especially with the La Bella flats.
