1. I made a fretless precision and a telecaster using brandoni parts. The body & neck are very good quality. Much better than a Squier; more like an MIJ Fender. The pickups are very good, but I didn't use the bridge and tuners as they were cheap generic ones and the pickguard had different hole positions & shape to a fender.

  2.
Depends what you can get it for - it probably wouldn't make 3 figures on Ebay.

    J.
It shouldn't really make 2 figures, but I guess some people may see it as a kitch wall decoration. I remember them being sold new in woolies for about £25 in the 70s. They were cheap crappy beginners instuments that well-meaning parents bought for their offspring in the same way argos sell their bottom of the range cheapies these days.

  3. Schallers always come loose for me. The best straplocks I've used come free with Grolsch beer in the proper fliptop bottles. Not sure if Fender supply them with Pino's signature bass but he uses them too.

  4.
Check out the link I've put here. She runs 3 different rigs and uses a line select pedal to split her signal. Simple but effective idea!

    Cool Clip. Clatter are Great.

  5. I don't think there should be any real confusion - its just a way of describing the time machine models that haven't been given the relic treatment. They also have the closet classic range which apparently has something to do do with Tom Cruise.

  6. I use a Markbass LittleMark II with my Schroeder 1212L and love it - Its very easy to dial in a lot of good sounds through the Schroeder using just the VPF (Variable Pre-shape Filter) & VLE (Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator) controls without resorting to the eq.

Of course if you did end up getting one you'd have the added bonus of having your name on the amp :)

  7.
people who use backing tapes should be taken outside and flogged with a sh1tty stick. Bogus...totally f. bogus indeed.
It really p155es me off when 'buskers' in the local high street use a bigger PA than I've used on some gigs meaning you can't get away from their stangulated Celene Dion & Phil Collins karaoke.

  8.
I had an Ashbory for a while, as mentioned good fun, decent tone but don't try and bend notes as you would on a normal bass... the string rolls rather than bends. Vibrato has to be back and forwards not side to side and yes (unscented) talc is the lubricant of choice. Cue smutty jokes about rubber and lubrication!
Scented talc contains oils which can corrode the silicone rubber strings. There', so I use something called sliderite that came with my ashbory (the ashbory site largesound.com supply it) - its meant as a billiards lubricant (not sure what needs lubricating and where it goes in billiards) its a little cloth bag filled with unscented talc. Not as messy as johnson's talc but after playing it still looks like you've had Pete Docherty round.

  9. I did my first recording with my Ashbory a couple of days ago. I was going to use my NS upright, but my six year old was having so much fun with his lego train track all over the floor that I tried the Ashbory instead. I wasn't expecting it to come out very well as I haven't had the Ashbory long and the intonation can a bit fiddly as Alun says, but I was very pleased with how it came out the tone worked perfectly for the song.

If this upload thing works here's how it sounds - This song is called "the Runner" and will probably be the last track on the new album by Obviously 5 Believers, This is a slightly rough mix that hasn't been mastered.

  10. Thanks chaps - I guess I needed someone to advise me to resist the urge to install the upgrade so I will wait and get this finished. I probably won't have time to play with the new toys in 4.1 anyway and this project is well overdue.

v4.0 has crashed on me twice this morning (its usually very rare to get one crash a week on my system), I guess if I had upgraded to 4.1 already I would be blaming the new version for the crashes whereas it was probably caused by unfreezing too many very processed tracks and tweaking plugins. Anyway I have done some final tweaking to the three tracks that needed minor bits sorted and will be starting on the last two that need the bass re-recorded after lunch, hopefully I'll get those two mixed today as well.

Then I'll master all 11 tracks, the band will agree on a name for the album, we'll finish the artwork and then we can send it to manufacturing.

Thats the first time I've seen another P bass exactly like mine. I believe fender only made them in that colour in 81/82 (unless I'm misinformed of course). Mine weights about a ton.

  13. As I type this I'm downloading the new 4.1 update for Cubase Studio. I've used Cubase since version 2 on the Atari in 1990), but only recently got back into using it when I bought Studio 4 for PC. The updates are taking ages to download, but should be done in another hour or so.

Any other cubase4/studio4 users here? - has anyone installed the new update yet?

I have two tracks to re-mix and a few that need minor tweaks to finish the o5b 11 track album. Would I be safer waiting until the album is is finished before upgrading to 4.1 or should I install it with my fingers crossed and play with the new toys?

  14. I recall hearing a (supposedly true) story of someone returning a guitar tuner to a shop for that reason. He had left it plugged in overnight and the guitar was still out of tune in the morning.

Just as daft is people insisting on using their own tuners in the studio rather than at least checking with the same tuner everyone else is using and/or trusting their ears. I've heard a guitarist insist that he was in tune 'cause his tuner says so, despite the racket from the amp. :)

  15. I have a few of them. The ADI-21 acoustic preamp I bought to use with my stratacoustic made my Dean Pace sound fantastic - so much so that when I sold the pace the buyer insisted I threw in the pedal, so I'll have to buy myself a new one now :)(

The green limiter enhancer is my favourite as its very transparent, the magenta bass overdrive has some nice sounds, but I didn't really get on with the tuner pedal .
