1. +1 for the neoprene strap. My '81 precision feels like it is made of concrete and was pretty much unplayable for anything longer than 30 mins until I got a neoprene strap. I have a couple of comfort straps and a couple of fender branded neotech ones - They really do seem to help with heavy basses. Failing that you can spread the load with a leather strap at least 3" wide, but the noprene will be more comfy.

  2.
at work they when the bosses have meetings they drink some kind of posh bottled water that has the same closures as grolsch bottles.

they normally leave the tray with the drinks finished bottles outside the meeting rooms when they're done...

i've acquired a few washers that way :)
I hope those aren't reusable filtered water bottles that are to be refilled by the catering staff. If so they might start getting peed off that someone keeps nicking the seals...

Today I found Grolsch in swingtops in Sainsburys (Purley Way Croydon) so I bought three. For some reason one of my basses is already wearing a single one. Most shops are now only selling the small crown cap bottles or the canned "fizzy pee" version of Grolsch.

if only a decent realale like hobgobin was sold in swingtops.

  3.
Taking the **ss??!!!

No, I certainly wasn't, Jean-Luc. I'm merely suggesting an option.

It may be time consuming but it's not like modifying the saddles is going to bring on the ten plagues of Egypt, or is it? Perhaps filing deeper grooves into the saddles with a small round file would be better ... but hey, don't listen to me, I'm not a luthier :)

If I'm wrong offer me reason as opposed to arrogance please. I'm also here to learn.
Sorry mate - I wouldn't have made such a flippant reply if I thought that you really believed that filing down the saddles would be a good suggestion rather than it being a jokey reply - your "piece of **ss" comment just seemed a bit silly as filing would be more hassle than shimming. Now I know that you were serious doesn't the "piece of **ss" comment comes over more arrogant than my reply seeing as you don't seem to have much experience or knowledge of simple routine setup jobs, but are making incorrect suggestions to people as if you know what you're talking about?

Shimming the neck can be reversed. If you shim it too much or not enough you can adjust it easily with different thicknesses of card and/or the position of the card as required. Doesn't it make more sense to do something thats quicker and 100% reversible instead of hacking up the hardware?

  4.
actually I was only half-joking when I wrote that-
have you seen the Fender Eddie Van Halen Frankenstrat?

    http://www.evhgear.com/frankenstein/

they were charging $25,000 for that piece of...er...fine craftsmanship.....
I though this was the Eddie van Halen Frankenstein :)

  5.
Unscrew the saddles, clamp them in a vice and file the undersides of them down, one at a time.

    piece of **ss

taking the **ss more like :)

As others have suggested: Shim the neck - that's the only solution a luthier would perform.

  6.
Some Vintage Fenders had cream pup's I got some on my P
Didn't this only happen in around '83 - '85 ish, and then those were more white than cream. If a 70s Fender has cream pickups I'd wager it was "upgraded" to Dimarzios early in its life. :)

  7.
That's got such a glam-rock vibe about it.
Or funk. I'm sure bootsy would love it - it almost looks like is should have a mu-tron III circuit built in (mmm... there's an idea :) )

  8. Well the hasn't turned up yet. I'm sure it was supposed to be one day delivery, but maybe it hasn't been sent yet. I'll give it a few days before chasing it up.

In the meantime here's a closeup I found by googling

I love the les paul jnr doublecut shape & It looks like the violetburst will be less "pinky" than the other pic I found on the Daisyrock web site. mmm - When it arrives I might have to 'forget' to give it to the little 'un and keep it for myself...

  9.
I find 32" or 33" a good compromise and there's a noticeable reduction is stretching.
The Daisy Rock I have coming in for my daughter's xmas pressie is a 32" scale and Daisy rocks all seem to have skinny necks. Don't know if you'd care for the "Clares accessories" styling though. :)

  10.
that is AWESOME! :)

Expect a very happy daughter come christmas day. She know she's getting this?
No it'll be a surprise. She found it on ebay, but I told her I forgot to bid. She doesn't know how to look at completed listings so doesn't know I put in an offer. - I'm having it delivered to the office so she won't see it.

  11. I managed to get one of these on ebay for my 12 year old daughter's xmas pressie - a daisy rock stardust elite 32" scale bass. It should be delivered tomorrow. She's been after this exact bass for ages as her purple daisyrock heartbreaker is uncomfy to carry and she isn't allowed to taker her lilac '71 musicmaster out of the house.

Its so pretty I'm almost tempted to keep it for myself (not sure what my bandmates would say though :) )

Not bad for £220 & listed as new

  12. I usually have a few windows open on the page and keep refreshing them to get a handle on how fast the site is responding and if there's any price movement. I can usually get my high bid in with just three or four seconds to go. I have won a few auctions where people have put their bids on in the last 10 secs and my bid comes in just after. I doubt that this approach would work on dial-up though.

  13.
Have you ever smelled a Lowden acoustic guitar ?
I kid you not, there is a definite woody (cedar and rosewood construction) "nice" smell off my F25C.
I've had it three or four years and it's still there every time I open the case
It's the most expensive air freshener I've ever bought :)
I have an old washburn D23 acoustic with rosewood sides and back - it smells lovely.

  14. Glad it wasn't serious and was sorted so cheaply.

My old Trace combo's power board once selfdestructed with a loud fart at the start of a rehearsal once just by switching it on (with the gain & volume down to zero as usual) resulting in a £200 bill to replace the board. No idea what caused it :)
