I think the Trace speaker in your combo is 8 ohms (might be worth checking), so the extension speaker should be 8 ohms then you'll have a 4 ohmn load, which will give you full output from the amp

Better stick to the 4 ohm extension cab

  2. Hello Ladies and Gentlemen.

Have any of you been so lucky to have tried both the old generation of Acoustic amps - and have compared them to the new version of the brand?

I would love to get hold of one of the old ones, but I have a feeling that If I get one of the new products I could get seriously disappionted with the sound.

    Any words on this?

  3. I can no longer handle my old Trace Elliot 4x10” combo.

A guy offered me a Fender Rumble 100 in a trade, but I did not think it would cut it in the rehearsal room with my rock band.

What/How much do I need? Just a guess would be a combo with 250 watt and a 15” speaker.

Info on this great sounding combo?

    Experiences?

It entirely depends on what the internal speaker is. If it's 8 ohm you can though you might need to make a splitter cable if the head only has the one output. However if it's 4 ohm the head is already at it's full capacity so wouldn't be able to take a second cab.

There are an extra output, so I don’t think a splitter will be needed.

I have a 8ohm 15” - but how do I check If the internal speaker is 4 or 8 ohm?

If your combo has a spare speaker output you should be able to plug any 8 ohm cab into that. A lot of TE combos use a short jack out of the cab to go into the head. If the head only has one output you might need to make a splitter cable to hook up another cab as well as the internal speaker.

The important thing is to check the impedance of the internal speaker. If it's 8 ohm you're good to go. If it's 4 ohm then you won't be able to hook up another speaker at the same time. Perhaps someone more familiar with that model will know the impedance of the speaker.

Thank you. I need to check What model it is, or I might upload a picture here, If anyone can help out

These old Trace Elliot amps sounds no short of amazing in my opinion, and I kind of ponder on getting one again at some point, or perhaps the new tiny Trace Elliot ELF class D amp instead, which is supposed to actually sound very close to the old classic solid state Trace Elliots.

Been looking at that Elf, too! I have heard nothing but good things about it, but have doubts it will be loud enough

Looks like an AH200.  Great amp, not very heavy, plenty powerful.  Run with any modern light cab...and smile.  Just start without the pre-shape, and a flat eq.  If the graphic eq doesn’t make sense then google the TE manual...

Not really familiar with that graphic EQ - or that level slider. Is there a link to that manual you refer to?

I've got one of these, series 6, but where your's says model number mine got  200 watts written in it, or so it says, it's bloody loud I know that, fine amps as are all the Trace models,  I've also got an SMX and the writing on the back of that is nearly ineligible, depends what pen they used at the time 😊.

The weight might be a clue to wattage, mines a fairly manageable 13Kg  and hasn't got a fan, but the higher wattage ones were a lot heavier  with a fan,

I think this one has got a fan, not sure about the weight
