A little follow up. I got a fairly cheap acoustic bass a couple of weeks ago. It was a second hand item, so it was €45. For that price it needed som attention, so it spent a few days with a luthier I know. After a complete setup it was a pleasure to play unplugged. People who say that acoustic basses are useless must be doing something wrong. I like sitting at home doodling on my cheap acoustic bass unplugged - I play that thing more that I plug in one of my electric basses.
Plugged in at practice with the band is another world.
Feedback is a thing to take into consideration - there are ways around it, but you should know it takes some adjustment.
The sound (plugged in) isn’t as smooth as it is unplugged - but I would suggest everyone to try an acoustic at home - it’s pretty fun

I've got a Harley Benton Mini GS Bass (Taylor copy), arriving tomorrow. Looked at the Taylor & Guild models which look absolutely great but opted for the cheapy HB to try it out firstly…my first HB venture too.
Hope I hear your thoughts of it when you get it

Anyone got an acoustic bass

Any experience with Ibanez acoustic basses? It will not be my main bass, just something to grab for a session with a couple of acoustic guitars.
I plan to plug it in

You'll need a new nut, the saddle slot filling and a new saddle fitted in the correct position. This is all regular work for a luthier as a lot of vintage (and some not so old) acoustics will need new nuts and saddles at some point anyway
If the guitar is worth it then by all means get the modification done as long as the guitar doesn't need anything else doing to it, get a quote from a good luthier and see if it's viable it to you. A lot of the time the cost of work on acoustics makes initial bargains much less appealing.
What's the guitar, is it new?
Nah, it’s got a few years on the back - I might just look for a righty

My local guitar shop told me about this ages ago. Apparently it works fine for open chords but once you start playing past the 7th fret, the intonation is a challenge. There may be others who can do better but I rated the guy that said this very highly.
Thanks mate, very helpful knowledge

I am looking at a left hand acoustic guitar at a good price - only thing is that I am right handed. Would it be needing work on the nut/saddle to play it ”right handed” (a reversed Hendrix?)?

I am currently looking for Yamaha -should be good value for the money.
If you can find a Yamaha LL - go for it

Ignition is made in China, right?
Where is the Contemporary made?

We have a practice room and and need a bit more power for the vocals. Got hold of a Europower (2x250 watt) mixer and an active monitor (The Box MA 100).
I would like some more balls and power from the system, do you guys recommend larger (active/passive?) monitors or a sub?

Don’t totally discount the HB, a friend of mine, who is a particularly discerning producer with a LOT of vintage guitars, swears by his…gets some great sounds out of it with some Tapewounds. I’ve played it, it’s quiet, so I’d suggest others issue are purely because they are cheap and prone to QA issues, not because they are all inherently noisy.
Si
Those I know who have tried it complains about it not being quiet, but a lot of hum. Since it’s hard to get inside to the electronic stuff I guess it would be hard to fix -

Hofner contempory basses are worth a look
Yep, I have a cheap copy of the Beatles bass. I like it, even that it's a cheap discount bass from Harley Benton

I am looking for a semi hollow bass. From a YouTube search I had my money ready for the cheap Harley Benton - I also hear some people complain about the noise from it, and since it’s a hollow body, it’s not easy to get in and shield the electronics.
Any suggestions to something midpricey semi hollows you have experience with?
Epiphone’s Jack Cassidy should be good, but also it bit over my budget.
Help my out guys

More and more companies are selling small power amps, EHX even has a few in their normal pedal sized casings.
Have you ever used on, perhaps this little low-price 100 watt from Harley Benton

Also, and this might be obvious, and a stupid question, but are you string action and pickups adjusted correctly?
Thanks for your help, and yes - the bass is in good condition (although the P-pickup wasn't right on the dot....but it is now)

What compressor in the Zoom multifx do you use, and can you show me/explain what settings you use?
I need the compressor to even out the output from the different strings on my bass.
Thank you

The tiny Harley Benton power amp, will that work on bass too?
Would fit nice on a board along with a Zoom multifx.

Looks great Al Krow, I don’t have my Zoom here at Home at the moment, but I will give your patch a spin when I get the chance. Thanks mate

My little gigging pedal board with Zoom B1-4 very much at its heart! Couple of additional pedals for filter and synth which, together with pitch shift, tend to be weaker areas for many multifx:
** My Xotic BB patch combines the following B1-4 sims: Demeter Comp --> Xotic BB --> SWR SM 400 amp, and has boosted bass to compensate for the low-end loss on dirt sims.
Can you share the settings used for this patch?

I've recently ordered a B1 Four and, while waiting for it's delivery, have been studying the manuals.
I'm interested in creating an amp/4x10/1x18 amp speaker patch, but that leaves me with only two spots for sound mod effects.
Is there any way to condense an amp/speaker(s) group into something, like maybe an IR file so it can be one effect? Do it with a clip?
Is there any way to chain patches? Like, for example, having a 'ghost' effect that calls another patch?
Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!

Zoom B1-Four update problem

I have a Zoom B1 Four and simply cannot update - and I would really like to get the high pass filter I can get in the update (not included as default).
I can download the file, but when I try to,load it into the Zoom, the pedal just don’t respond.
Other members in here in the same situation, or do you have a solution?
