1. Wow, this has been on here almost 36 hours, that's an age by recent standards on here!

I imagine if you give a guide price and, maybe even more importantly, reveal that it has a serial number on a nice shiney white stricker, you'll see it disappear.

I'll be in the market in a month but I wouldn't expect this to be here beyond the end of the week if you stick up pics. :)

  2.
And they are???
Budget, house space, insurance cost, strings cost, setups cost, loss of housemates and friends, lack of a nice long fence to take pictures against ........... there's plenty. :)

  3.
As self-proclaimed `King of The Collector's'* I welcome you to the world of GAS!! Take it from me, there is no cure...

    * sorry - not intended to come over as an overbloated braggart but it might just be the case!
There are so many reasons why I can't aspire to having a collection like yours!!

  4. Markbass was the preserve of the ludicrously rich until I came here, now I'm trying to work out how to dodge my rent for a month or two to buy an LMII.

As long as your playing is also improving it's sort of justifiable, if not then maybe you're in the wrong bits of the forum?!

  5.
got my acg preamp today and have fitted it in the K5.

first impressions is that i now have the bass i wanted, the range of sounds out of this pre amp is overwhelming....

i can honestly say that the difference is night and day.

going into the studio tomorrow, i hope i won't need my SRX.....
Fantastic news, got me thinking about some modding of my own!

  6.
Bumpitybump.

    Reduced to £220.
How is this not a bargain compared to Rockbass prices?

Someone take it, please, it looks nicer than your Stingrays, have it as a backup or something ............. anything so I don't buy it! :)

  7.
So they ship the parts from the US to China, they're then built up and finished etc, then sent back again to the US or to wherever they're going to be sold.

Surely by the time they've done all the shipping back and forth they'll end up costing more to produce.
I imagine they'll have done the maths on that. :)

  8. What a disappointing input. I know from first hand experience how good these sorts of forums can be for a business to build up good PR and loyal customers, but apparently this isn't what the Harrisons want.

Oh well, that's my mind made up - no more money going into Music Ground's coffers. Shame as I bought my very first guitar from Music Ground in Leeds, my very first FX pedal not so long after that, but unless their prices drop through the floor I'd rather go somewhere I can get friendly service for less money.

  9. I can tell you all with a degree of certainty that Laney didn't R&D and release a £1.4k head that, on average, blows up the first time it's switched on. There are circumstances missing from the story here, as embarrassing as it will have been for the shop and annoying for a potential customer (well, maybe not really 'potential').

  10.
That's extremely civilised noisedude. After all, we don't want a price war.
No worries, we're in the same area as well so it's a courtesy I would like if the situations were reversed, so I thought I'd hang fire for the time being. :)

  11.
Hi ND, If you can't get through to Mike, PM me. I should be able to help.
The second cab will make a difference. I use 2 of the "non-neo" ones and really like them. I forgot to connect the second one up one night, (the non-tweeter one), and couldn't understand why i wasn't getting the sound i was used to.
Spotted the problem between sets and second set managed to drown the guitarists out as per normal.
Notice you have a G&L L2500 as do I . Sounds awesome through 2 Zoots.
Cheers mate, appreciate it. This wrist problem means ultra-light is the only way to go for me now. It also means that, as I have quite small hands, I might be giving the 5-string up. I like the L-2500 a lot although it doesn't quite suit my funkier style, it's awesome for rock and anything a bit rougher. But yeah, I'm trying to learn drop-D to compensate a little until I find a 5er with a paper-thin ultra-narrow neck. :)

I'll be in touch if I can get hold of Mike Walsh.

    Nik

    :) whats that then?

nice, the playability of the SR's is really nice and i like the look of the feldy one, and getting the green light to mod is a nice touch and should give you a sweet bass. are you changing the pickups too?
i'm going to leave the pups as they are at the moment, should hopefully not need to alter them.

if i need to i assume that the barts on the sr should drop right in??

i am really looking forward to getting the pre amp in as i don't want to give up on the feel and playability of this bass
The ADX5 pickups on the K5 are not the only bass those pickups have been used in by Ibanez so I'm guessing they are going to be ok and that it's just this Fieldy preamp that's stopping you from getting what you want from it.

Could you record a clip of it before and after the upgrade so we (and you) can compare the sounds?

  13.
Once an amp has hit its maximum output or the limiter if one is fitted, it wont get any louder irrespective of the settings of the knobs.
Well the limiter light wasn't flashing and I've run it above 2/3rds before, usually it has the effect of making whatever speakers I'm plugged into start crapping out. In this case it was clean as anything but no increase in loudness. I have the preamp gain fairly low (always below 12 o'clock) to avoid any overdrive and so that only my loudest notes feather the built-in compressor.

You have the non-neo Zoot cabs, don't you? I wonder how much different to mine they sound.

  14. I have a 1x12, it's not particularly bass-heavy compared to the cheaper Eden 1x15 and Hartke 4x10 I have ...... but once my ears adjust to the sound, I much prefer it. I bought it for the lightness anyway so as long as the sound is reasonable I can't afford to be fussy.

Something interesting I've noticed about it is that once my power amp is up over two-thirds (it's 300w @ 4ohm so I'm guessing about 200-250w with the Zoot cab, which handles 300w rms) the volume doesn't actually go up. My suspicion from reading some posts on this site is that this may be to do with the cab just not being able to move any more air or the speaker not being able to travel any more .... it handles the power without distorting but doesn't get any louder.

I'm planning on getting a second so I can move more air at lower power, and now look forward to being corrected on this theory. :)

  15.
... just to add, we had a situation in the music store I used to help out in when I'd just left school (STIX Music in Peterborough). For a period of a month or so, we had this really young French lad come into the shop to play on this lovely Gibson Les Paul. He was quite scruffy but always polite and we used to ask him just to take his denim jacket off to prevent marking the rear of the guitar - he was cool with that and was a very good jazz/blues player. A week later he came in, pulled out a wad of £20s and bought it (£800). Danke Schon!!!

Moral of the story - appearances can be deceptive!! Shops such as the Bass Cellar should tell their staff that each and every person that walks in is a potential buyer, not necessarily on that day...but many months or whatever in the future. Next time I'm in there I will check out their attitude by taking a wad of paper (not real cash but a flash of the thick wallet will suffice!) in with me....! Bad service = no sale!
A scruffy hippy guy I knew through another forum used to come into our shop. He doesn't have a phone, a car or a computer and wears old tatty clothes. He was always trying out a couple of nice Strats ('76 and a really nice Dan Smith from about '82) we had because he was a teacher (cash, under radar etc) or something. Anyway one day he came in and handed over the best part of £3k in cash for the pair and I now see him around town pedalling to lessons with one or other of them on his back.

Nice guy actually, a little eccentric but who of us isn't?

  16.
Agree. Bet the response would have been different if tBBC had told him to f*** off - or me come to that.
Of course it'd have been different if the BBC had said it ........ tBBC has a different personality and track record. The post in question was out of character but it was also the most entertaining and succinct answer in the thread.

Let's not take it too seriously folks, it's supposed to be "The Local" and if one of my friends goes on a misdirected rant down the pub it is quite common to tell them where the door is in a small number of words!! :)

  17. I guess the signature guitar thing leaves you open to some foibles. My Wimbish signature (SRX body shape) is pretty straight ahead but sadly had no mid-EQ options .... but there are signatures out there that are unfathomable to anyone apart from the creator/user.

If you like how the K5 plays and can't get the right sounds from it then a mod of some sort might be really good. Make it your own if you want to be playing it for some time.

The preamp in the SRs is the Bart Mk1 as previously said. I think they SRs sound really good but the good folks on here will be able to recommend all sorts of retro-fit preamps, hopefully you won't need to take any extra wood out in which case the mod would be reversible.

Intrigued to see what you decide, keep posting!

  18.
Not yet, I already have a black 79 P bass, although on the dark side I did like a 70's lightweight Strat that I may go back for. :)
Any 70s Strat that doesn't weigh as much as a car could be worth a look. If the neck is on straight and there aren't too many mods and refins you could make a really tidy investment ........ or buy an instrument with some serious mojo!
