1.
I have an SR500 from 2004-ish. Very similar to the current model but I think the pickups are slightly closer to the bridge than more recent versions. Personally I think the MK1s sound muddy and lacking in genuine punch. But fitting a pair of Nordstrand Big Singles and ditching the pre has transformed it into a passive uberbass. I don't know of anyone else who has tried this particular combination, I assume no-one thinks it's worth it on a bass this cheap...you are all wrong.
I don't own an SR500 thought I've played a couple.

Great to play, love how the finish will wear away where you rest your thumb, makes it feel like yours relatively quickly. Not blown away with the tone so might consider upgrades; frankly, at that price, I could justify some changes.

My DWB-3 with EMGs plays like the bass of my dreams, fits like a glove and feels like home, and sounds pretty good too. Yeah, it's not got classic Fender tones, but I didn't buy it for that.

  2.
Really? I don't want to contradict someone who in all likelihood knows better than me, but that seems to be a little on the cheap side for an early 90s US Strat. Personally if I was eBaying this I'd start it at around £300 and expect to pull down between four and five hundred. Of course that's just my opinion and I could be wrong.
You don't know what the California series was then mate ............ they had to pull 'em because 'Made in USA' wasn't technically the full story! Also, made in 1997-98.

Doesn't stop it being an ace guitar though.

  3. Hi guys, sorry I haven't updated the thread. The cab is sold pending the usual and there is actually a queue of people who want it if it doesn't go through as planned!

Looks like I made another pricing error, like the time I let a nice Hamer for for about half of what it was worth because I didn't think there were that many 6-stringers on this site ..... :)

  4.
might be interested - my amp wont connect to anything less than 4ohms - will it work with this cabinet ?

apparently this cab does 300w at 8 ohms.
Yeah it'll be fine - the vast majority of cabs are 8 ohms, you have to have a specific plan to go out of your way to find something that comes in a 4 or 16 ohm version.

[Unnecessary extra info - If you connect two 8 ohm cabs in parallel (using the two jacks on the cab rather than the two on your amp, usually) you can bring the overall impedance down to 4 ohms to make your amp kick out some more power, though there are pros and cons to that too. There's a really good thread about it somewhere else on this site.]

  5. Right then, time to clear some space in my living room! These two would make a great first gigging setup for someone, before I was a teacher I sold guitars and had chance to try out everything in this price range and these were my favourites. They'd also make a good backup rig because they're light and lightly used!

The Laney RB9 head is a great little head, all different sounds possible, nice and punchy with the compressor on and the preamp pushed a little bit. Sounds great with a low-mid boost on the graphic EQ. Used for a handful of gigs, never used for home practice. You can see how little it's been switched on because the fan has no dust on it. Never thrashed. Had it since new and has spent 98% of its life sat in my front room. £120 ovno plus P&P or can you can pick up or we can meet somewhere within a sensible range.

The Hartke 410tp cab has been used literally about half a dozen times in total because I always try to borrow someone else's cab at gigs. Never thrashed. I always liked the sound of this - not too bright, plenty loud enough, I was always complimented on my tone by other bassists when I used this cab with the head. It's surprisingly light for a 4x10 and fits in the boot of a Fiesta. Had it since new and has spent 99.5% of its life sat in my front room. £90 ovno plus P&P or pick up/meet as with the head. I can ship it, have lots of cardboard saved for a rainy day, but it obviously is going to add a few quid.

If you want the both - £200 the pair and I'll chuck in a speak cable to connect them up - saving about £20 over separate.

These both come from a smoke-free home, and nowadays obviously the venues are smoke-free too! The photos were taken in low light so I had to take them in such a way that it's made them look dustier than they are  - I can promise that none of the carpets have gone furry and don't look much different from when they were new!

PMs welcome - check my feedback threads - I am a real person and have met many Basschatters in real life! :)

  6.
I've got the 4 string version of this bass and I love it, so have a bump on me
Me too. Incredible bass and the 5-string looks awesome in blue.

I had given up on 5s but I guess it'd be rude not to at least consider thinking about wondering possibly about this one .... :)

Whoever buys it will have a keeper.

  7. As described, came to me, didn't complain when was served a mug of very mediocre instant coffee. And taught me a few things about jumbo jets while he was here too. Definitely a top bloke! :)

  8. Said he was going to buy it and did, despite being messed around himself a bit at his end he was good to his word. Couldn't ask for more from a buyer - plenty of communication and lightning bank transfer. Cheers John! :)

  9.
I've still got the SA450, cracking amp. As for the cabs, they were loud as hell but in a weird kind of way that you couldn't hear. Stand any further than 3-4 feet away from the cabs and it was weird, like someone filling your ears with cotton wool. You could tell it was loud by the vibrations but you just couldn't hear what you were playing. Very weird I thought. So I've eventually settled on two Eden 210XLTs. Looking forward to cranking them up shortly :)

    Faron
That's usually cured by pushing your mids a bit more though, isn't it? I've had this problem with loads of amps in loads of venues and usually it's just because the bassist has cranked his top and bottom and effectively scooped out the mids. Personally I tend to push the lower mids up a little and it makes me doubly audible.
