I do keep an eye out just in case a nice ‘73 p bass comes up (my YOB). I would be quite tempted.
Yep, that's my reasoning as well.

So the tinfoil hat stuff isn't totally daft .............
😎
Not totally, but a thick layer of clothing would be just as effective against both types.

Out of curiosity, do people have a "go to" place to look at for vintage fenders? I'm casually looking for a '73 at some point over the next year or two, so I'd like to get an idea what the market rate would be. I know it will vary based on a number of factors, but a rough guide is fine for now.

Thanks @Hellzero
Just thanks.
That was the joke!
Lead (pb) being too dense to allow α and β radiation through, therefore providing useful shielding in nuclear power stations and the like.
The joke was based on the pun 'lead guitarist' (as opposed to rhythm), vs 'lead' (the element pb) guitarist.
But no, you had to go and explain it!
Sometimes you're so dense, light bends around you!
Just to further ruin the joke, you wouldn't need lead to shield alpha and beta rays, aluminium would do the job just as well.

If they've contacted me, they have the wrong number.

As a general rule, I like to by UK made wherever possible, however none of my current basses are.
I've got a barefaced cab, Ashdown amp (I think it's UK) and a couple of bass effects (DHA and Origin effects)
Guitar wise, I've got an Atkin acoustic, A Hiwatt DR103, two self-built 2x12 cabs and a shed-load of Pete Cornish pedals.

Boris: There's not a fuel shortage!
Man on forecourt: I say there is Boris, and I should know, I've seen a few.
Crowd: Hail, fuel shortage!
Boris: There's not a fuel shortage! Will you please listen?! There's not a fuel shortage, do you understand?!
Honestly!
Woman: Only a true liar denies his untruths!
Boris: What? Well what sort of chance does that give me?
All right then, there is a fuel shortage!
Crowd: There is! There is a fuel shortage!
Boris: Now, f**k off!!
My reply would probably be deleted under the "no politics" rule. However, let's just say that I disagree with you.

Wigan Diggers Festival last night. Brilliant big stage and sound system. Great crowd. The only negative was the shared drum kit. In hindsight I should have insisted I use my own but I don't like to rock the boat. It looks like an adult brought breakables to a kids drum kit! And there was no rug so the bass drum was wandering around
Nice! We played there last time, it was good fun.

I'll spare the names but in a classic case of wrong booking, my rocking three piece supported a fairly big name MOR artist, who is now of pensionable age. We played a really tight loud and energetic set to a largely indifferent audience. There was some crossover appeal but the majority were clearly there for the headliner. Afterwards our guitarist approached the headliner to politely say he enjoyed his set, to which he indignantly replied "I wish I could say the same about you!!!"
Just in case anyone is sympathetic towards the headliner, he didn't need a bassist because "my keyboard player can do it all with his left hand"
He sounds like an utter tool. There's no excusing that behaviour.

Played at The British Country Music Festival yesterday, in the ballroom of the Winter Gardens, Blackpool.
A great venue, but acoustically challenging, with lots of hard, reflective surfaces.
I played through the supplied Ampeg SVT and had to turn it down after the first number, as it was a huge on stage sound and it swamped out all of the other monitors. Oops!

No, it was the Bull in Downton. They certainly seemed to like it, but we were the 'headline' act in an afternoon/evening mini-fest so they were fairly well oiled
I could have sent my OH, the kids and in-laws, as that's just down the road from them. That would have been an experience for you!

Nice! We're on our way back after playing the Little Big Top yesterday (I didn't play, just tech)
It was a great festival wasn't it?

I wish them the speediest of recoveries & hope you get back to gigging soon.
We’re also booked to do Carfest south on 27th August (ELO again tribute).
Have you got South booked as well?
Cool!
No, we were only booked for North, bloomin' drummer only works Saturday and Sunday morning, so it was a bit far for us to go for that one.

We were supposed to play there on Sunday, but one of the band caught covid last week. They're starting to get better, but no smell or taste and a head full of wool, despite being double-vaxx'd
Looks like a great crowd and you had good weather for it!

We've had to pull our gig at CarFest North tomorrow, as one of the (double jabbed) band members has caught it.
I think there will be a lot of last minute substitutes over the coming months.

If you have the serial number, you can contact Ernie Ball and they'll tell you what bass it belongs to (if it's one of theirs)

That's a great gift!
I've never been into that place, despite it being fairly local. What's it like?
