1. I have had a search around the site, but can anyone suggest names of willing US vendors who will ship over here? I have been looking for a USA Fender Jazz in Butterscotch with maple fingerboard, but of course it is now discontinued here, and all of them seem to have gone in the UK...... Many thanks David H
2.
Ahh lucky you, i may be following suit if you give me positive feedback from it. If you could tell me about what you think of the new bass in the way of sound, action and weight that would be cool as i am at the buying stage. Also i have seen a japanese fender jazz but no switch but it has a badass II bridge. So have you ever had any troubles with the usa standard bridge? and is the jap bass worth getting purely for the badass II bridge?
I won't get it until at least tomorrow, and the only amp I have is in the band's rehearsal room....Which means it won't get amplified until Saturday. I'm actually not expecting playability to be vastly better than the Jap Squire to be honest. they ( the non bassists) will probably moan I'm too load, and make me disconnect a speaker again! I guess the USA bridge is much like the one on my Squier Silver series. Never worried too much about saddle wobble before now, so probably won't worry about it on the new bass.
3. I have never had any problem getting a thuddy sound from a Jazz! I have played one since 1994, I have always played rock on it. I'm getting a USA Fender Jazz (with this S-1 switch) this week, so I'll have to get back as whether the band moans about my (extra) low end thud at the next practice....... Or is it just my amp is too loud!!!!!!!!!! David H
4. I really cannot add more than say get a Squier Standard at least (not the chinese "affinity") Precision or Jazz. But I would go for a Jazz........ I nearly bought a Squire VMJ this week, but realised that a USA Fender will be £900-1000 by the time I WAS going to buy one at the end of 2008, so I bought one of the last of the current models. Also, it would seem the colour I wanted was discontinued as well. by the by.... David H
5. You can get Mexican Fender one for about £100 on ebay I believe, from a US ebay shop. DH
6. I started in 1986 My first was a 2nd hand Cimar ( a budget Ibanez, I think) P-type bass, with a broken scratchplate around the knobs, which I "fixed" with a piece if cardboard........ The 1st new one was a Marlin Sidewinder in metallic blue, which was a PJ copy, with a plywood body!, so really, my Cimar was better. The 3rd was much better, a Squier Silver series Jazz, which I still use. David H
7. OH S**T looks like I'd better hurry up if I want a butterscotch Jazz with a maple neck. Why do they do it when I have just started to re-equip? David H

Hey

Hi Dan, Welcome from someone only on the forum a few minutes longer than you! When I introduced myself I forgot to say what I like, but it includes AC/DC. If forced to take one album to a desert island, it may well be Highway to Hell. Going back to the age of 16 Cliff Williams was the man as far as I was concerned. Hmm 37 now, but I still like solid basic bass playing! David H
9. Good evening all, Im returning to something I have done on and off since 1986. Originally witha Cimar/Ibanez thing and a Marlin Sidewinder P/J thing. Then I wandered off into 6 strings SGs, Les Pauls etc. Then I got married and bought a house! Quite by accident I told someone at work just before Xmas, I was thinking of playing again, and she told me her brother was looking for a bass player! Now I am back. Gearwise I had to get a lot quickly to get going again, so I made my own 4x12s over Xmas and I take delivery of a Behringer BX4500H head tomorrow. (10 years ago this stuff would have cost a fortune!) I had always kept my 1994 Squier Silver series Jazz back, just in case, but I have also now got a Mexican Jazz as well, which is rather nice. Long term, I will get a USA Jazz (can you tell I like the Jazz yet?!) and also a Marshall VBA400 head, cos I have always liked valve amps....
