Ive got a new band and were really stuck for a name. We want a one word creation and we need it pretty soon due to a massive level of interest we have gained since forming. We play a strange, unique mix of Progressive/Groove/Southern/Melodic metal. Mastodon as the closest thing we can compare it to sound-wise. I'd really appreciate some help here as we have been looking for a name for ages and its becoming a bit of a nightmare. It dosent have to be anything obviously metal ( we want to avoid any stereotypical "brutal" names e.g. decapitated). So yeah any suggestions would be a huge help ! Cheers!
I have found is that many bass players assume they have to play with a heavy pick "cos they are for bass" but you should get a whole pile of them and try different types and thicknesses.
+1 I have only ever used picks but am starting to learn to use my fingers I find the best pick for me is a Dava control, but i also like using the stubby triangles from time to time

Im sat in college trying to avoid coursework so i thought id write a follow up to my recording tips thread and an explanation of the band's situation now Right so heres the score Just after we booked the dates for recording, we parted ways with our guitarist who was impossible to work with. Our reviews at the time were pretty much stating that we sounded like killswitch engage / machine head. Anywho .. the recording didnt happen as we broke up soon after this and went on a break and I felt pretty bummed about the whole situation. So, last Tuesday the drummer, one remaining guitarist and I went for a jam in a local studio and some kind of magic happened. We wrote a 4 minute song which completely pisses on everything we had done before and has the sound of old school Metallica but in straight D. After being completely blown away with this practice, we decided that waiting for the next tuesday wasnt an option so we went back to the practice studio on the friday. After 20 minutes of playing old stuff including the song from the tuesday before, we started jamming a riff that in an hours time would be another awesome song. I never thought it would be the case, but a break was the best thing to happen to us and are now forming a fresh band with a new lead guitarist and vocalist . Were now left looking for a vocalist (Swindon) who is influenced by old school thrash/metal/hardcore. And now, we are finally going into the studio during mid April ! Cheers to everyone who has given their advice, im looking forward to putting it into practice. Dan

Any ideas on ones that are easier to play than the average 6er ? , I need a narrow, and slim neck too...and short scale if its possible (not a huge issue though) I have a wanted post going too if anyone is selling one around £250-£300 (and abviously less ) that matches the description above What sorta stuff should I look for, I have been advised a Peavey Grind or Cirrus 6er so far ? I play mainly pick bass by the way if that counts out any strange bridge designs. I have been searching for a few weeks now, but once again I thought I would ask around here for some proper advice Cheers !
here i have a stingray bass dunno if genuine or wat havent done research mate told me to do add to swap for guitar any guitar other than squier affinity start and encore guitars but preferred a telecaster style the bass was bought for 850 i have receipt next to me with bag and police line do not cross starp and a behringer bt10b 15 watt amp no jack yet but can get one if required the paint needs re doing a nice sounding bass if played on the right amp eg i was using a swr amp dunno wat one but it was 300 watt and it sounded amazing need a guitar and preferably an amp please reply if you can help
I'm not going to be rude and call you a liar, of course. However this seems a bit fishy if you dont mind me saying. Its 100% not a Musicman and I wouldnt part with £850 for a possible Tanglewood. Some proof of purchase or clearer photos would be nice, these seems purposely blurred with the headstock hidden. Also with it having gone up as a Tanglewood before, you must realise what it isnt. If there is nothing to hide then whack up some fresh pictures man. Dan
