1. Well i am 6 foot dead if that helps anyone, sorry i am being so dumb today. Cheers Murphy offer under consideration.
2. Cheers mate, will 55 inches bring the bass down to my hip though, i just don't understand length with regards to straps.
3. I am suffering from chronic pains in my left should which i think is from using a stupidly thin strap. I bought a new wide one at the weekend and it just isn't long enough. Does anyone know where i can get a nice wide and long strap, as i normally play down by my hip if that makes sense. Thanks in advance. Nep
4. Yes Andy Rourke did have one and if it's good enough for him and all that. Well i play a P-Copy so this will be a massive upgrade for me. I also love the white/mapel combo and that is what i shall plum for. Just hoping, when i buy the set-up is good and the action is nice. I was thinking of trying a jazz for a change, but this model looks too nice, plus a you know what to expect with a good trusty p.
5. Ok, i have finally upgraded my bass amp, now i am seeking a value for money decent bass guitar to do it justice. I am looking at the model mentioned, as on gak they are about £380 which is quoite a good price i believe. I know people say try before you buy, but living here the music shops are crap and i alos love a certain colour in this range. Before i hand over my money, does anyone hazve an opinion on these, and will i have to sack the pups. Thanks in advance Nep
6.
Don't pay some one to change them, easy to do yourself in a P bass, just try them. Easy to sell if you don't like 1/4lbers.
Well i haven't a clue how to change them and am scared of messing it up. The bass i am after is the 2009 Fender P-bass, the reason i am pre-judging the pups is because it's a mexican model. The SD's are in the actual delvery packaging, so i may sell them on here.
7.
Gonna say it again, baring in mind you seemingly haven't played the bass that containt the pickup you're looking to replace, what elements of the original are you trying to improve upon in a gigging situation?. That will help to narrow down the field a bit! Si
yes hopefully the pup in the new bass will be fine, just getting my back up plan sorted as i have heard negative things thats all. I want more presence in the mix, but not to be too trebly, just right if that makes sense.
8.
I've had both the SD Quarterpounder and the Area 51 (in different basses though). The SD 1/4er is a really high output P pickup but I'd agree that it's a definite move away from the "traditional" Precision tone. I felt it was almost "active" sounding, the scooped mids and enhanced highs/lows tend to work really well in some situations but not in others. Ironically, quite close to an EMG Precision pickup I had despite it being a passive. When I got my 62 reissue precision, I wanted something high output and a little more open sounding so spoke to Andy at Wizard and he wound me one of the first Area 51 Stealths. He also distressed and aged the pickup covers a little so it matched the vibe of the bass. Looked old school but sounded really upfront and modern. I found that the Area 51 sounded fantastic whatever I did to it. With the tone rolled off, the Precision "thump" was there in spades. With the tone and vol all the way up and me hitting the bass with a plectrum through a big amp, it totally nailed the "rock" tone. Personally, I'd go down the Wizard route. Andy is a genius, he really works with you to give you exactly what you want and they're such great value when you compare it against an imported SD or Nordstrand. T
So would you say in comparsion is the Area 51 more versatile and suitable for a cover band situation then, you know beatles to blink 182 and a bit of funk?
9. Haven't bought the bass yet, but heard that the stock pups are a bit on the quiet side. I will give them a chance first though. Ok, i am slightly getting put off these SD's, iam tempted to try the Wizard Area 51 Stealth option, any feedback on these?
10.
If you like the sound of the QP but hate the look of the logo then you should be able to rub the logo off with some T-cut/Safe Cut. Might take a while, but all you're doing is accelerating what happens naturally anyway
Very true, i don't like the sound of the SPB-3 on some youtuvbe clips, they can sound too trebly. But i am hoping with a bit of eq, and rolling the tone off a little, might achieve a nice balance. I also play finger style so that may reduce this problem. Just want to know other people opionion on what i should do.
11. I am having a bit of a dilemma, i currently have a SD Quarter Pounder unopened from the packaging at mine. I am think of getting a fender P-Bass 2009 model and whacking one of these pups in. Obviously before i pay someone to install them, i want to know which one gives the best sound. I haven't heard what the thumper sounds like but hear it's a good pup. I also don't really like the 'basslines' logo on the SD, but i like the fact it will give me more presence in the mix. So shall i sell my SD and opt for a thumper, or shall i uses the SD which is already at home? By the way i play in adiverse cover band. Thanks Nep
12. I seem to see a lot of these frequently coming up for sale. A lot of the people selling haven't long purchased one either. As i am in the market for a new head, it has made me rule these out purely because these are for sale quite regulary. Are they popular puely because they are lightweight, and are they not being sold on because the tone is too muddy and bland? Just i am after a decent head with a good versatile tone for a cover band, which can cut through the mix, suggestions welcome.
13. Well i don't reallycare for the cosmetics, just concerned about the sound really. So i take it you would recommend the A51 over the SPB-23 for me, is the SPB-3 thinner sounding with the mids?
14. I am nervous about taking the big step of having the spb-3 installed as it will about £30 to do this. Also i am in a cover band so need a versatile pup, but am a little concerned this pup maybe too extreme for the set. I have a feeling it's not a warm pup which lacks in bottom end. But also i do want to cut through the mix a bit more to give us a more defined clear sound, if this pup can alos be warm enough for the elvis, beatles songs in the set then i may go ahead and use it. Just not sure at the moment though.
15. Found this pup on the wizard website. Is this a good choice for me, i do have a SD spb-3 in the box still, but am concerned that thispup may not be ideal for the covers band i am in. I am think the stealth will be a more sensible versatile option.
16. Would be nice to see some pics, plus an idea of where your based pal.
17. Funnily enough the white one with maple board is the one i am gonna get. Looks great on your picture mate. The only thing is to decide to stick my SD spb-3 pup in it, or try a thumper.
18. I am very tempted to pay £400 for one of these models. Anyone tried one yet, if so is it worth the price and is it a pleasure to play?
19. Craig did you play a gig in Shrewsbury a few months ago, with a band called 'Band Camp'?
20. Does anyone know what power rating in watts this is @ 8ohms? I am guessing it is 300 watts @ 4 ohms but i need to know for 8.
21. Fair play to you, i agree with what your saying about Blink and Mark. People forget that Mark plays fast and also sings over some tricky basslines. I can't wait for their new album but am absolutrly gutted they haven't confirmed any uk dates yet. I think there is a good chance they will play Nottingham, i mean i saw Green Day there before American Idiot admittedley. I am hoping they will play Birmingham as thats the nearest to me. I have a total different style to Mark as i solely play fingerstyle but some of my fav players are plec styleee. If you want to see some pics of my bass type in 'bad hair day' in facebook and we are the first band on the list. Think there might be some pics of my bass there. Oh i do a bit of slap too, is a SD pup suitable for this?
22. Well my bass is a p-bass copy with vintage on the headstock. Cost £120 about 10 years ago. The pups are white. Hopefully the SD's will be a better option, i may then change the bridge to a Badass II. I was gonna and nearly purchased a US Fender P bass, but decided that this bass has been my only one and has been on a journey with me and i couldn't get rid. I assumed that Approx £100 on upgrades such as pups will make it sound just as good as a Fender P-Bass and save me £500 ish. Also even though it was cheap and nasty i play other more expensive basses in shops and they don't feel right with me, i feel comfortable with my bass. I will take some pics of it if you want, i have set the action low too. By the way i love Mark Hoppus, simple but effective. Seems like a good decent humble guy too.
