1. Ah, I feel a major reminisce coming on...
I saw Back Door twice in the early 70's ( pre 73) when I was still at school up in Newcastle.
The first time was around the re-release of their first album called "Back Door" by Warners, as I think they had done a private white label pressing first.
After the gig at the Mayfair?? I wandered into the dressing room ( the innocence of youth) and got the sleeve signed by CH himself: he was busy wiping off his strings!
The second time I saw them was at Biddle? Arts centre near Washington and they augmented the band with Alexis Corner, who really just sat in with them rather than being integral to the band.
Seeing Back Door was one of the reasons I took up playing the bass... as I did not play it at the time.
Not long after I went to Leeds Poly, got an EB2, a Truvoice 50 watt amp, and 15" cab the size of a Smeg fridge. It still took me 15 more years before I actually played in bands!

2. Or you could go for one of these, all be it it a bit more than £200, you should be able to get one for £215 at SC

3. Fellow Basschatterers

The time has come to break my Bass-selling virginity: I am offering my barely used and now increasingly rare Black Line 6 Variax 705 complete with all the gubbins ( tough padded Line 6 gigbag, power supply, stereo cable plus a spare (2) , DI Box, batteries and a spare set of unused D'addario strings).

It would almost pass as new: I've played much scruffier new basses in shops than this. It has the well documented 24 Bass sounds which can then be individually tailored and saved. Action is nice and low and the neck just like a Fender 5 Jazz.

I'm happy to transfer the remainder of the 36 month warranty ( it was bought in May 2007) which means if it goes wrong if will be fixed F.O.C.- not that I've had any issues with it!

The cheapest I've seen one is £549 and some are much more expensive at £799 so I'm looking for offers over£400 : if someone wants to collect then we can negotiate!

My reason for selling is that it is a quite expensive dust trap: my Rick Turner and G&L L 2500 both obtained from Basschatters of this Board are currently meeting my bass needs!

N.B. The apparent marks on the Bass in the 2nd photo are in fact reflections from rain on the glass roof (not ceiling)!

"Joan Osorne of all People"?!!!! Try catching her last but one album of Motown covers called "How Sweet it is".....

5. I posted this a couple of weeks ago

I've just spoken with Kurt...

Good news and bad news I'm afraid, bass people.

The bad news is that the 6 basses would have to be all the same type and style ( no mixing 4 and 5 strings or Jazz and PB's) although they could be different colours: he is not sure how he could post such a large parcel to UK: and there would be no quantity discount.

So the good news is you can go and buy one yourself in the type, style and colour you wish!

6. Saw one of these Staggs in a guitar shop in Darlington on Wednesday 27/02. Not sure of it's name but it was the small shop near the big shop if you know what I mean( I was just visiting!) Did not have time nor the confidence to try it out! :)

7. I think if I was spending £20k or a bass ( or near offer!) I would not expect to be charged £15.00 postage!

8. What about importing from USA? Even with duty/vat and P&P could you not bring a Skyline in for around £575?
Or there's this guy on evilbay

9. I traded this a few weeks ago and it's a great bass. However, as you can see the Tort on the headstock facing has got chipped by the use of wall mounted hangers.
I reckon I could remove the old Tort with gentle heat and buy and shape a new piece to fit.

Would the Tort cut with a fine hacksaw or is there a better tool?
Does this sound a feasible plan?

10. I had a Crafter 5 String Acoustic ( as per photo to the left) but had real problems with the intonation on the B....there's nothing you can do to adjust it. Tried thinnner and thicker strings, in the end got rid. That cost £300 but for £75 could be worth a punt?
