I (with my other half) do open mics, the most popular song by quite a distance is Jilted John, never seem to hear it on the Radio these days 😄

I was coming on here just to post this, and just because you beat me to it, I can't see any reason not to 😁 Genius...

I've been using one of these for a while for my Genz Benz combo and it's made a huge difference:

Really sturdy, and fairly light. They also fold up into a neat 'T' shape. I've also taken the extendable legs off as it's at the perfect height without them. The best way to raise your cab up is to stick another cab underneath it, but for when you don't really need 1000w of sub bass for your pub gigs, I've found this to be a quick, cheap and easy solution.

    £27 from Thomann: https://www.thomann.de/gb/millenium_mixer_stand.htm

I picked one of these up after seeing this post ( thanks @rushbo 🙂 ) and use it combined with an AER wedge thing (like the Markbass one) - I stick my cab (Berg 112) on the floor with the wedge underneath it, put the Thomann stand over the top of the cab and then pop my ABM600 on the stand.

It all looks pretty neat and works well, been great for rehearsal and smaller gigs where I don't need/want both 112s.

If you have a chunky head and cab rig rather than a combo, then I think it's well worth a try.

One thing, the Thomann stand I got was quite wobbly and out of line when I got it - however, after having been squished by my ABM for a few hours it settled in and is fine now - just thought I'd mention as I nearly returned it.

I probably would go for a band simply called Nigel. Unless Colin were looking for a bassist.

Many, many years ago, a friend of a friend had a band called 'Keith's Dad' - iirc, they were originally called 'Keith', but there was evidently already another Keith.

A quick Google reminds me of their EP 'Nobody wants to shag Keith's Dad' - I seem to remember Snorkel Parka Punk quite fondly 🙂

  4. There's a Coverband Facebook page over here in Essex where this seems to happen all the time, loads of people going on about how playing pubs for £250 undervalues them and 'How are we supposed to make a living?" type comments - I just think that if you are relying on pub gigs to make a living then, you probably aren't in the right job - or you aren't good enough/dedicated/appropriate to land the higher paying function work.

We play local pubs mostly and get £250-£300 between four of us.

Coming out of Covid we took the decision as a band to quietly offer our existing landlords a lower fee for any gig before the end of 2021, we called it Covid Relief - we actually said we'd do gigs them for £120. (Would have been lynched on Facebook 😜) - but when those landlords asked us at the end of the night what the fee was - we said "Well usually £250/£300, but as you know we are offering you a cheapy at £120 to help out."

Every single one of them nodded, went off and came back with the full normal fee - one even paid us more...

  5. I've got 5 'gigable' basses (all quite different from each other) - plus an Ibanez Mikro that my daughters use and my first bass (an Encore) which is in the loft.

I got up to 6 gigable basses once, but that did tip the scales in to 'too many' for me.

I keep considering a custom build to bring together a 'greatest hits' package so I can cut numbers back.

    I know, I'm weird 😜

  6. Hi all

Does anyone have a simple way of setting your band Facebook banner page so it looks decent in all formats? We like to update it with the next gig.

With the new version having the Profile Image stuck right in the middle it's a royal pain in the bottom.

    Wish we didn't need it...

    Cheers

  7. Great amp, love mine. Couple of tips that may save head scratching.

    1. DI is the other way around to the manual ( on mine anyway) so DI Post EQ is IN.

    2. Get some better labels for switches for live use.

    3. I got the footswitch and incorporated it into my pedal board. Very handy once you get used to it.
