1. I won this amp at uni and don't really have a use for it hence the sale. It is brand new and has never been used. Would be a great amp for practise or smaller gigs. I'm looking for £100, no offers please. Save £80 on the price from a shop. Cash and pickup only, London area.
2. Darling Dear - Jackson 5, What's Going On - Marvin Gaye, Inner City Blues - Marvin Gaye, Heard It Through The Grapevine - Gladys Knight and The Pips. This could go on forever. Get the Tamla Motown Gold 3 CD set. I've seen it quite cheap a few times recently. Well worth it.
3. PS. Nice Stingray. What'd you need another bass for?
4. Jazz with S1 switch. Nice warm p bass style tone without the big neck. I heard they stopped making them now though.
5. Off the top of my head, There's nothing like this by Omar,Thats the way of the world by Earth, wind and fire, Brown Skin by India Arie and Sweetest Taboo by Sade all fit the laid back, soulful vibe quite nice.
6. Am I missing something? Why not just turn the volume knob up past 4.
7.
I assume you have read the book by Bill Milkowski(although not academic) : The Extraordinary and Tragic Life of JP?
Yeah, read it a few times. Great book.
8. Sorry if this has already been posted but Richard Bona is playing the Jazz Cafe in Camden on 30th March. Tickets are £20. Just ordered mine, can't wait. James
9. Don't think its grammatically incorrect. Think you just worded it better. Cheers mate
10. As part of my degree I have to write a dissertation. My idea is to write it with the question, "How unique is Jaco Pastorius?". Obviously you can't really argue against the fact that in terms of bass playing Jaco is most definitely unique. However, in terms of music there is a train of thought that would suggest a lot of his ideas came from a huge range of sometimes very obvious influences ie. Charlie Parker, Stravinsky, Jerry Jemmott. Could you argue that Jaco's ideas weren't unique but just other instrumental parts played on bass? Basically what I'm trying to do for my dissertation is put forward both sides of the argument and come to a conclusion based on my research. At the moment my opinion is that Jaco was unique. Based on what I already know and love about his music and playing it seems hard to imagine you can think otherwise. I suppose thats where the research comes in. Just wondered what everyones thoughts were on this subject and if anyone has attempted any academic writing on Jaco. Be great to get the opinion of the online bass community. Who knows, you might even get referenced. Cheers, James
11. Ah right. Thanks woodster. Win-win indeed.
12. Love Meshell's playing. Especially the early stuff like you say. Haven't checked out the new album yet but have heard mixed reviews for it. I'll probably still get it. Comfort Woman was a great album too. Some hefty dub bass going on there.
13. Cheers guys. Excuse my ignorance but ,Grolsch?
14. Here's my problem. I have two Fender Jazz basses both with schaller strap locks. On both basses the strap locks come loose all the time. I've tried superglueing a matchstick down the holes and glueing the screws but they somehow always come loose again. On one bass a screw was even bent in the hole. I'm now thinking I need to replace them and have seen strap locks on a Fodera that are actually recessed into the bass body. Anyone know anything about these and if they are available and has anyone had a similar problem? Cheers, James
15. Thanks guys. Mr Sibs, Tech Music Schools is made up of drumtech, vocaltech and guitar X. I'm finding quite tough now I'm in my last year but the previous years haven't particularly stretched me as a musician although I have learned quite a bit about recording technology as well as improving my sense of time and groove. If you were thinking about doing a degree course like mine I'd say you should research all the possibilities. The Bass Institute, also in London, do a similar course and I'm not sure but I think Leeds College of Music might too and if you're loaded there's always Berklee.
16. Hi guys and girls. I'm a newbie so please be gentle. Been playing 7 years. At the moment I'm in London doing a degree at Tech Music Schools but originally I'm from Glasgow. I play in a band called The Parish Music Box. We've an album coming out in the spring (you can check us out on myspace). I also do any covers gigs I can get my hands on for a bit extra cash. At the moment I'm using a 2001 Fender Jazz Deluxe FMT and a 2004 Fender American Series Jazz going through an EBS HD350 and an EBS Neo 2x12 cab. So there you go, looking forward to foruming it up in 2008. Cheers, James.
