1. Replying to myself. Found a wiring diagram over at Talkbass that helped. 1) and 2) are not needed as everything should be grounded via the control plate 3) Who knows As for my options, I've discounted a) - checked continuity from jack ground, tone pot to control plate and all is good. So I'm going to re-wire it and change out the pots and see how that suits me.
2. I've just finished shielding the cavities of my Squier VMJ with some copper tape to help reduce hum. Checked continunity between cavity/bridge, cavity/control plate, control plate/bridge and all looks good. The hum is still there though.... While I had the control plate off I noticed that the wiring is quite different to a standard jazz bass: 1) Jack ground isn't connected to anything 2) Tone pot ground isn't connected to the other pots (bridge ground is attached to tone pot though) 3) Tone pot connections are reversed (Cap in middle, Hot on outside) Any ideas why it was wired this way? Appears to be standard for VMJ's as I've got a fretless which is wired exactly the same way. I'm wondering whether I should: a) Connect all grounds to the jack ground b) Just re-wire the whole thing like a standard jazz (and maybe upgrade the pots in the process) Advice appreciated!
3. Looking for £200ono for my Squire VMJ Fretless. I bought this from Mansons music in Exeter a few years ago and have only played it once or twice. Selling as it's much better for it to be with someone who will play it than gathering dust in my guitar cupboard No major dings, one minor scratch that should polish out - I'll have a go myself this evening. Collection from Taunton, Somerset preferred. Shipping will be £20 Photos: https://goo.gl/photos/kWG2LTewgzSaG1yu5
4. Bought from Absolute Music for £235 in Sept 2013. https://www.absolute...-amplifier.html These currently sell for around £210 new. Save £50 and grab a bargain! This is a great little amp thats only seen a few hours of light use in the last two years. Playing bass has taken a back seat for now as our little one is growing up (and demanding more space!) Collection from Taunton, Somerset preferred - I might be able to take it as far as Bristol for a contribution towards petrol. Cash on collection, PayPal or Barclays PingIt accepted. 5. Mods - please delete. This is a duplicate of http://basschat.co.uk/topic/268347-fs-ebs-classic-session-60-bass-combo/ It happened when I went via Paypal to pay to put items up for sale.
6. **FOR SALE*** Ashdown EB 15-180 - £130ono Full Specs here Bought from BC'er a year or so ago, this is a great amp. Enough punch to cut through in rehearsals/small gigs and a nice tone. Selling due to down-sizing, so grab yourself a bargain. I'd prefer collection due to size/weight/packaging and I'm willing to meet in Bristol or Exeter if it's more convenient. If you have any questions, please get in touch. -- Dave
7. Bought an OC-2 from Scott. Great price, communication etc.. It arrived today and I'm loving it. Thanks!
8. Final Price Drop - £100 Would rather this go to a BC'er than somebody on evilBay... Go on.. Grab yourself a bargain. Would make an ideal 1st bass or backup bass.
9. Nice protoype... I love the idea of a driftwood body. It would be really light and I'm intrigued as to how it would sound. Looking forward to seeing the finished article.
10. Thanks for the nice comments!
I went to Mansons today as I was visiting my in laws and we met up in Exeter. Never been there before but great shop. Wall to wall guitars.
Its a small world... You weren't looking at the American Deluxe and Marcus Miller Jazz's by any chance?
My credit card seems to like the card machine in mansons.
Mine too. I always end up buying more than I go in for...
You're a very naughty boy! I'd never get away with it.
I very nearly didn't get away with it... as the Mrs was with me, I had to make the case as to why I needed two basses on-the-fly. My attempt at explaining the merits of both fretted and fretless didn't work. But we somehow came to the agreement that if I hang them on the wall then they won't take up floor space
11. I went shopping today in Exeter with the intention of getting a new bass... Bored with the lack of tonal variety my Tokai offers (which is on the For Sale section if you are interested) I'd decided it was time for a change and I wanted a Jazz Bass! I saw a few MIM Jazz's about but nothing that really caught my eye so I started to look at Spectors and Warwicks which were well outside my price range Hidden in a booth was an Ibanez BTB670 and I couldn't resist having a play as I love the look of through necks. It was incredibly light and sounded great and I was almost ready to part with the cash... I put some Jaco on in the car this morning to help get me in the bass shopping mood... and I could hear the track "Continuum" in my head... so while mulling over the big decision I suddenly had a great idea. I was going to try a Fretless! So I wandered over to Mansons where the only Fretless they had was a Squier VMJ. I played it... and grinned from ear to ear at that fantastic fretless tone It was so much fun to play!!! But I needed a bass for more traditional tunes too... and fortunately there was a fretted Squier VMJ! Both basses, in spite of their Idonesian heritage, sound absolutely great and play equally as well. And even better... I had them both for less than the Ibanez BTB! Sure they aren't active, don't have through necks and aren't made of exotic woods. But I like 'em
12. Too busy to put on eBay and would prefer this to go to a good home... Price drop bump
13. Brit Floyd are amazing! I saw them at Glasto last year and they played a great set... most likely better than whatever tripe was playing on the Pyramid stage at the time They even played "Great Gig In The Sky", a risky choice, but the vocalist totally nailed it. One of the highlights of the festival for me.
14. Seen a number of basses I like on here so this has got to go soon bump
15. Greeting from just outside Taunton... Wellington to be precise Welcome aboard!
16. New pics uploaded and added to the album in G+. Link in first post.
17. I'll polish it up and take some more pictures of the finish later as I don't think the phone pictures do the Metallic Red finish justice. The previous owner lived in Poole, so maybe this bass is destined to return to sunny Dorset? You're welcome to come on by have a look, play and cup of tea (optional) if you are ever in the area. Or if you wanted to collect I could meet half way...
18. This was either made in Japan or China (as far as I know) bump
19. I'd say Guthrie Govan has to be the best guitarist I've heard in a long while. Not sure if he would be classed as modern enough to be considered a modern guitar hero though.
