I've just finished shielding the cavities of my Squier VMJ with some copper tape to help reduce hum.
Checked continunity between cavity/bridge, cavity/control plate, control plate/bridge and all looks good.
The hum is still there though....
While I had the control plate off I noticed that the wiring is quite different to a standard jazz bass:
1) Jack ground isn't connected to anything
2) Tone pot ground isn't connected to the other pots (bridge ground is attached to tone pot though)
3) Tone pot connections are reversed (Cap in middle, Hot on outside)
Any ideas why it was wired this way?
Appears to be standard for VMJ's as I've got a fretless which is wired exactly the same way.
I'm wondering whether I should:
a) Connect all grounds to the jack ground
b) Just re-wire the whole thing like a standard jazz (and maybe upgrade the pots in the process)
Advice appreciated!
