2.
Very cool - never seen one of these outside of a catalogue before:

    http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/130/11.jpg

This is an interesting point in Ibanez bass evolution - basically the Musician body has been refined to the shape that went on to be the SoundGear series, which of course is still going strong today. Obviously I've never played a 2940 but I'll guess the neck is closer to the wider & more chunky shape of the early 80s Musicians & Roadsters etc, rather than the skinny shaved-pencil necks of the SRs.

Very good to see, anyway. Got any other pics?

    Jon.
Thanks for the catalog Bassassin.

    Your wish is my command.

The neck width is identical to my 1981 MC940 - 40mm at nut, 55mm at Octave. To give you an idea of the change in body shape you can see them both together. Notice that the headstock on the MC2940 is proportionally smaller to keep (and improve) the balance.

Forgot to say - I have the original gold Ibanez three point strap locks. I put the newer straplocks on because I am paranoid. The bass has markers at the 'fret' positions on both the side of the neck and the bottom of the fingerboard just above the G.

The back of the neck is not glossy laquered - but it is sealed. I assume it came out of the factory like this.

The one minor ding on the bass is on the bottom edge (shown in photo) I suspect its from a stand. Other than that the finish is immaculate.

Apologies for the quality of the photography.

  3.
Nice bass.

Just curious about the fretted one. Is that an MC924 with plastic surrounds on the pups and control area?

    Have a Monday a.m. bump!
Hi,

It is indeed. Its a 1980 MC924. The previous owner removed the original pups - filled the routs and then had it rerouted for EMG jazz pups, and sprayed it white. Its a lovely bass but it does weigh more than my Volvo (which is also for sale...).

  4. NOW SOLD - THANKS

    Hi All,

I have decided to put my 1986 Ibanez Musician MC2940 Fretless up for sale or trades.

Its the later series of Musician with slightly less weight and smaller body. The finish is Natural amber.

I own 4 Musician basses (you can see my slightly modified 1980 fretted in the photo). This is the one that gets the least use now I'm not gigging fretlessly and its a shame to see it parked on a stand.

The bass is in astonishingly good condition. The only significant wear is to the gold plating on the control pots. There is no buckle wear.

The bass is set up with Thomastik Flats. No electronic issues or buzzes.

I'm based in near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire - so if you want to try the bass out feel free to contact me and I can put the kettle on. I am not at all keen on posting basses, but would be able to supply a Gator case at cost for shipping purposes. I'm happy for collection or delivery (within reason !).

I am looking for £499 ono - which I realise sounds high for a Japanese instrument, but is in line with the build quality and condition in my opinion.

Any questions as always please message me.

    Cheers

  5. Don't know if anyone has spotted this - I am very, very tempted but currently own to many slightly broken fretless Ibanzes. A week ago would have brought it for the pickups and the active circuit. :)

  6.
I have an original gig bag ,which came with my Steinberger full bodied bass.
I also have a cool gig bag (levinson )which I got when I purchased my Washburn Status many moons ago.(Wow :) )
Trouble is,they've both seen better days.

The annoying thing about the Levinson ,is that it's just the part where the zips are pulled that are broken off.
The zips themselves still move but I'm getting fed up pulling said zips without the proper tags.
The Steinberger one is,in my opinion too tight a fit .

Is it true that status/steinberger basses do fit into lead guitar bags/cases?
Or is it best to track down a Status gig bag/case?
Also ,regarding zips: when the tag breaks off, are they really doomed and beyond repair?

    Please advise
Don't know about steinberger / status but my Hohner Jack headless fits very neatly into a guitar gigbag.

  11. You could use a Patchbay in half normalled mode to tap the insert send without breaking the signal patch. Much neater solution than making up loads of leads that are unuseable for any other application.

Much as I woudn't want to recommend Behringer stuff the 4 mode patchbay they make is good for this.

  12.
hmm, do you mean like a dark to light gold burst? the outer edges are more root beer brown colour than black (i have one :) ) or if it's just black with gold hardware it's a 2006, though the inlay makes it fairly obvious! the finish on the 2008 LE is STUNNING though!
Hi - yep it was definately a 2008 LE (had a '2008' inlay on the 12th? fret)

Lovely colour - having just looked at your gear list is indeed the 'Sequoia Gold'.

Like I say 'Rays have never really been my thing, but this one made me go 'wow' - case was like a faux lizard skin as well.

Opulent I think is probably the word...

Any idea how many of the LE they actually made ?

    Cheers

  13. Hi all,

Not for sale by me but spotted in a music shop in Huddersfield, West Yorks today.

Stingrays aren't my thing but this caught my eye and I thought some of you guys might be interested.

Very striking gold / black colour - single pickup.

I can recommend the shop as an honest place to deal with.

The bass is brand new in case etc (was still in plastic wrapping !). Apparently brought in for a guy who decided he didn't want a Stingray after all. Shop is after £1400.

  14. Have a look at this

    http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35920

I was told that the drivers used in the subkick are the ones out of NS10 studio monitors, but this could be a malicious slur on NS10's.

  15.
I was just thinking, the Yamaha Subkick is designed to pick up low frequencies, so why don't we use it for micing bass amps? Would it work well for this application because I have some speakers knocking about that aren't being used, and if it would work well then I'll build one. Has any of you recording engineers or anyone else tried this before?

    Zach
I engineer for a band using a subkick on the kick. It certainly adds some nice movement at the low end. Although I haven't tried it on a bass cab I suspect that the frequency range and sensitivity is quite limited so might end up with rather an unbalanced sound if used on its own. It might be useful in capturing some air noise (if thats your thing) with another mic & a DI ?

Let us know if you try this - I'd be interested to see what kind of sound you get.

  16. Just as an update - I had a spare hour yesterday and rewired mine straight to jack (bypassing vol / tone / actives). Its got quite a pleasing 'woody' sound to it. Pickup has a rather low output but shoudn't be a real issue.

Its also half the weight of my Ibanez Musician - I'm going to gig it in the new year and see how it fairs.
