I love my Ibanez GSR200 which doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet...P+J pickups, rosewood board and plays like a dream.

I can highly recommend this model to anyone wanting an inexpensive first bass or backup for gigging - it plays as well as my MIJ 62 RI Fender Jazz.

Hi - Does the DHA VT1 include the power supply...?

I have a 1210 4X10 combo at 48kg plus a 29kg 2X10 xtension and it sounds wicked.

I know, to make it easy, I need a trolley - I'm thinking about 3/4" ply with four 4" rubber-wheeled castors.

A straight board just to make it easy to move - them I'm happy 'cos it's worth moving...

My understanding of Macca's Mesa Boogie rig is two 1X15 cabs powered with a 400+ and a 1516BE cabinet powered by a Strategy 400.

That's what he used in the past but maybe he has changed it around - money is certainly not a problem...

lollington - that had crossed my mind but as stated by chris b, it won't push more air.

Mr Foxen - that is exactly as I had thought which is why I was considering a 16ohm 2X10. Would you consider adding one would be beneficial (obviously, I will gain something just by getting more headroom from the amp) but is this going to give a decent improvement...?

Incidentally, the amp head is rated at 250W into 4ohms.

I need a little technical advice if possible...

I have an 8ohm 4X10 cab and I would like to push a little more air and make use of the full power from my amp head so I was considering adding another 8ohm 4X10 but, in reality, I don't think I can get it all in my car.

I then started reading about 6X10 cabs but they seem mighty heavy.

So my question is - will it be a useful improvement if I add a 2X10 cab to my 4X10...?

I realise that most 2X10 cabs are 8ohm which will mean the drivers in the 2X10 would be working twice as hard as the 4X10 but I was considering rewiring the 2X10 cab to 16ohm so each of the six 10" drivers are equally sharing the load.

I think I have the maths right but I'm wondering if this will give a decent improvement or should I stick to my original plan of adding another 4X10 and get a bigger car...?

Rimskidog - all I'm saying is that the difference in tonal quality may work for the OP and, for the price, it's an easy try-out.

Yes they are similar and yes it probably only comes from the different head shape but it is important to say that these two mics do sound different.

If you have a singer who's voice happens to be suited to one more than the other, it may make a pretty big improvement.

The chart show the (admittedly small) difference in response but for the price these are available for and the fact that the OP may have access to one easily to borrow, I think it is worthwhile to try.

The Shure SM7 is a classic recording mic for screamers but I'm not sure how well it would work live as it needs a fair bit of gain.

I agree it doesn't suit all singers - have you tried the SM57...? It has a different frequency response and is preferred by many a top wailer (Mick Jagger, Paul Rogers etc.).

It is also a very cheap upgrade and I would also recommend trying some sort of Preamp/EQ/Compression pedal - I use a TC Helicon Correct which is very effective.
