Because that is the implication....

    No, that is your implication.

Why do you think the long-standing manufacturers/designers will have more knowledge...?

But to follow that on logically, you have to put their opnions and thoughts below the producers who sell volumes of the stuff.

    Why...?

  3. Bit difficult to answer without more info but this is a useful guide to gain structure: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/apr98/articles/gainstructure.html

  4. Here's a description from Bill Fitzmaurice I picked up which may be easier to understand:

Two reasons for vertical stacking. One, you can hear them better. Two, the audience can hear them better. That has to do with two other facts. First, the all important midrange frequencies travel in relatively straight lines. The further the speakers are below your ear level the more difficult it is to hear them. Second, the angles of dispersion are inversely proportional to the width and height of the source. A low wide source has narrow dispersion on the horizontal plane, wide dispersion on the vertical plane, and that's the precise opposite of what's desired. Wide horizontal dispersion, for the benefit of the audience, and narrow vertical dispersion, so as not to waste power scerenading spiders on the ceiling and mites on the floor, is what you want, and you get that from a source that is narrow and high.

    1. We keep being told this, in vague and subjective terms, but what are the facts? How much of a real problem is this? I'm not talking about Cinema or PA applications or lab tests but the real world of noisy "rock and roll".

Has anybody got any experience of stacking Barefaced Super Twelves? Just wondering if they play nicely given the top handle and rear wheels. And yeah, it'd be overkill, but I can't help wondering what sticking an S12T on top of my current S12 would provide. Aside from the physical effects of fear in my bandmates.
I asked Alex (Barefaced) about this and he said they should be vertically stacked. The only thing to check is whether the feet on the S12T are tall enough to clear the top handle on the lower cab.

Keep in mind that you will need an amp head that can run safely at 2 ohms or a stereo power amp.

  7. An easy way to check if the material is likely to be suitable is to hold it tightly over your mouth and try to breath through it - if you can in comfort, it should cause no problems with your sound.

This is obviously not highly technical but gives a reasonable idea.

Anyone know what would work well with a Promethean given that the ext. cabs are impossible to get hold of?
I have a Promethean and I would suggest you first try it as a standalone for smaller gigs and rehearsals, then use the head with your 4ohm 212 for bigger gigs and 500W.

The Promethean extension cabs are still available: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/ibanez-promethean-p110c-speaker-cabinet/48939 or, if you're feeling flush, a Barefaced Midget works well.

  9. The Terror 500 will put out 500W RMS at 4 or 8 ohms - it must be switched to 8 ohms to use a single OBC410.

The Terror is probably quite capable of putting out over 1000W peak output so your OBC410 cab is not safe if you crank it too much.

As I said before, the cab wattage rating is only the limit at which the speaker voice coils melt - the speakers will run out of excursion well before then and fail.

Best thing is to use your ears - if the speakers are complaining, you will hear it and must turn down. If you need more volume, by a second OBC410 8 ohm cab and run them both with the Terror switched to the 4 ohm setting.

  10. I have Email notifications set so that replies to threads I 'follow' forward an Email to let me know of a reply.

Why does the site server send notifications for every reply...? Is this something I can change in the settings area (I've had a look and can't see anything obvious)...?

Over on TB (ahem), the website server only sends a single Email for any number of replies which seems like a much better idea and doesn't Email again until you have visited the site.

I replied to a popular thread here on BC today, left my PC for an hour or so and when I came back I had nearly fifty Email notifications for this single topic in my Inbox which is madness.

    Am I missing something...?
