Don't forget to try a limiter, it might be just what you are looking for - I use a Boss LM-2B much of the time.

My fave was a Trace Elliot V6 400W valve head through a Barefaced Vintage T 2X15 - more grunty than a very grunty thing but unfortunately, I needed some cash so it had to go.

That rig is now owned by Bassdriver of this very parish

Had a very easy transaction with Jules - a highly recommended trader.
