    Hi there Both my Dunlop Bass Wah 105Q and BoomStick Bottomfeeder are now for sale. I have written a little on the Wah pedal but that is just to improve the ability to see what the knobs on the side do without having to rip it off your pedal board. I don't have any of the stuff that came with the wah pedal but I will ship it securely and cosily. The Bottom Feeder is a much praised pedal on these boards and produces a fine array of funky sounds. This comes in the original box. I am based in Manchester and would be happy for buyers to collect otherwise postage will be £5 (per item unless bundled together).     I found the RGT exams and processes to be progressive and well constructed on the whole. I have just completed grade 8 and found it was a good way in the little time I have, to practice at home and focus my playing whilst picking up some of the theory behind my playing. I had been playing many years prior to thinking about grades but felt it was something I wanted to do in order to develop a further knowledge of the instrument, but to also give me a few more tools in my armoury. Go for it. On a seperate note I would like to continue my progression but can't find a diploma or something similar to enrol on that will allow distant/part-time learning. Has anybody any ideas on this? Cheers Mark

    Hi Just thought I'd add the Visual Sound Liquid Chorus as an option. I use one and I like it. Its got depth and versatility. I also had a Jacques Meistersinger which blew up after one gig...but sounded good...but blew up after one gig...but sounded good...

    Thanks for that. I thought it sounded a little pricey, but then I thought they retail at quite a high price. Is it likely they are overpriced in the first place?

    Hi there There's a chance of one of these bad boys coming up for sale near me for around £1000ish. I've not played one before and it would my first foray into the world of 5 stringers. Will be keeping my 3-eq EBMM, and have looked also at Lakland, Sandbergs, etc, (all of which has been well documented and commented upon on this forum which is much appreciated). Is it worth a punt for a grand?

    Hi there I'm in the fortunate position of having approximately £1000 to spend on a 5-string bass. I am considering Clover and Lakland, based on recommendations and having tried them out. Versatility, tone, good 'B', and good high fret access would be desirable (24 frets would be great, but not necessary). However, I have thought recently about a Warwick. They have such a huge array of models and are very popular, yet it would seem they are rarely recommended. Are they good? If so, which ones? If not, what's wrong with them? Cheers

    thanks for all your help so far. i've also had a look at Clover basses which look great. anyone had any experience of them? it appears sounds great music in Heald Green, Cheshire are going to be stocking them. It's a great shop and is finally working on improving its bass section.

    Just to qualify the Dark Side statement I have never considered getting a bass that does not conform to the old P or J appearance. The more I look through the build diaries and bass porn the more I find the prospect of a custom or boutique bass more appealing. I suppose i am reaching an age now where a wider spectrum of opportunities should be considered, beyond just Fender and MM. Keep the suggestions coming. (please note I have discontinued Star Wars role play against my better judgement and for the preservation of my last remaining iota of non-geekiness)

    I think I am now starting to get it. The distance from nut to bridge is relatively standard 34"-35" (is this right). Therefore you can't just go attaching a 24 fret neck to any body shape otherwise you end up in a whole world of pain tuning-wise (this is a eurekea moment for me). Therefore the distance between end of neck and beginning of neck pup makes it difficult to fit a pickguard as the distance is quite small. Hence, most come without pickguards. What other 24-fretters are around that people have had success with that have maintained that air of classic styling? Custom jobs included...

    Hello all I'm interested in purchasing a 5-string bass that has 24-frets. This is not a difficult proposition I hear you say, but there is one condition. I would like it to have the appearance of a traditionally styled fender-style jazz bass. 3-tone sunburst and with mint-green scratchplate. Where could I find such a beast and more importantly is there a problem with a 24-fret neck that prevents them from being standard (excuse my lack of knowledge here if there is an obvious answer)? Please help You're my only hope

    Hi there Thinking of buying a Sandberg Cal Bass. Played one in Sounds Great Music (fantastic shop) but I'm a little unsure as to which model of bass to go for. These are the models with either the J-style neck pick-up, or the P-style neck pick-up both with the bridge powerhumbucker. What would be the difference in sound if you compared a J-style PUP to a P-style PUP? Would there be a compromise on versatility with one over the other? Also, I've never purchased a 5-string.     Cheers for that. These suggestions look really interesting. However, my problem lies in not really understanding the schematics (for want of a better word) of looping/switching on a pedalboard. If someone could post a photo of a board fully looped up or a diagram of how you add in A/B switches, blenders and the like into the mix that would be really helpful to me. I've checked on the post-your-pedalboard thread but its usually quite difficult to see the intricacy of the connections. Thanks for your help and suggestions. Keep 'em coming!!! M

I love the bass line to Dry Cleaner from Des Moines by Jaco with joni Mitchell. Definitely worth a listen, but definitely something which is ore of an accompaniment rather than a stand alone piece.
