Looks awesome!
Thank you.
I'm pleased at how it's turned out.

Honestly it doesn't look a million miles away from the taurus, apart from the slope at the top.
I think it looks really cool in the aluminium. If it was mine I would probably fit the synths inside it and have a few footswitches on the top. But then if it was mine it probably wouldn't be done as well!
This is how I'll be using it next time out.
Handy space for my effects processor and the synth, which is a Waldorf rocket.

I have a short clip of the bass pedal when it was unfinished, earlier this week.
I only had the brainwave of using it hold my GT1B after this.
We were just messing about with a couple of arrangements and I thought a low note or two would fit right in.
Use your good headphones. It produces lows that a phone speaker will completely miss.

I'm waiting one part on this bass pedal build.
(when you need a 5 pin din socket, order one of those. Don't order an 8 pin din socket...)
In the meantime it's up and running and the synth I'd chosen arrived today, a Waldorf Rocket.
Oh my....
I thought I knew what low bass was all about...
This won't stop me from playing bass guitar, but for the music I play and in our lineup, it should allow me more flexibility.
It's my own fault for joining a prog band.

What sort of bass cab does one need for such low end ?
A big PA.
it's a synth at the end of the day, so a bass amp isn't best suited.
A really good FRFR speaker would be ok for backline.
I'll be DI'ing mine when I'm next out.- 3

I remember seeing Haze in the 1980s (it was one of our Aberocsoc gigs and because I was helping run it I recorded it off the mixer 🙂 )
They made excellent use of a set of bass pedals and it was the first time I saw how it was done. While you can go really fancy I've always fancied a set just for pedal notes (sic) under the bass line. Awesome.
Haze still gig occasionally I really must get to see them, it's only been about 38 years 🙂
Did a gig with them a few years back down in Maltby when the CRS still put gigs on.
They're still plugging away.- 2

You must have heard Genesis and Yes, surely?
A friend who builds his own keyboards is supposed to be looking at building a Taurus setup for me at some point in the future, if he ever gets chance. He reckons about £100. Fingers crossed!
I'm about £100 into this and it's nearly finished. Just some light tarting up and adding the stop ends to the feet and the wooden end cheeks.

Erm... why does the bass player need a Moog Taurus setup?
Just a thought...
One word.
Prog.
They fit especially well in certain types of prog.
It's why I'm doing it too.
It also allows me to use some of the extended high noted on my six string whilst holding those sub bass noted down too, where it suits the song.- 2

I'm currently building a set of bass pedals, actually.
Having squirmed at the price of well used Roland PK5 pedals, passed out at the price of used Taurus and not thinking my big feet will get on with the smaller 12 step, I'm building my own.
The source of the bits is rather predictable.
Bass pedals from an old organ, but just the chassis, switches and pedals.
It's remarkably compact.
It converts to midi out using an Arduino board and midi shield which is now built and programmed and working.
I've been concentrating on a case design that looks 100% production grade and not home made, I think I have that in hand.
All in, I think I'll have £100 in it, once it's finished.
it'll be driving a Waldorf Rocket.
If anyone's interested, I'm happy to share photos of what I've done.- 2

They will still leave a mark unless filled very very well
Yes indeed Gareth fair point. It's still worth doing though, in my view.

Always loved the Jaydee basses, and that one looks like a fine example. Enjoy.
It's a 'decent' example I'll say.
i can see me having a the refinish though.
It could use the refresh, like a classic car might too.
It's a personal choice thing between old and lived in or immaculate, I guess.
I have immaculate basses and two lived in.
I can see the two getting attention to make them 'just so'. -

Does it still have the half-arsed attempt at infills on the bottom horn?
Was a nice bass - shame I wasn’t in my current band when I had it...would’ve been ideal.
One of them, yes.
It's in generally decent condition for such an age, all told.Toby though, he can work wonders.
This is a bass he's worked on before and after a refinish. Including the laminate stripes, which are part of the finish. The same bass.
I'm very drawn to having this done.
Yes, it's a very distinctive colour scheme, but that's fine with me.

I've spoken to Toby Diggins about a potential refinish, at which point the screw holes could be dealt with forever.
-
Yes, I rather thought it wasn't an unknown.

This one isn't new to many in here, I suspect.
I don't think there are many Jaydees with a thumb rest and i'm sure this was once sold in here.
I had one new in 1987 and always had a hankering to get one again so finding this one locally at a price i could handle suited me fine.
They're not for everyone, but i like it.

Where in Cumbria, if one were to be driving to collect ?
-
-
I do, yes.
This is my Fame / Mayones neck thru. Bought from here as a matter of fact this is it with it's almost matching 6 string fretted model.
this one has ebony board an the brightest sounding flats I've ever heard.
It also has the side dots in the correct place for fretless, which really helps.

If you want to incorporate the b string but don’t know ‘where to begin’ I’d suggest taking songs your band play (especially if you’re doing some original material) and take the lowest notes or the patterns and ply them off the B string. So if you’re doing a blues in E use the 5th fret B string as your root. By shifting patterns to the B string especially for D E and B (and the flats and sharps in between of course) it’ll get you using the B sting but not having to learn new patterns for songs you already know. There is a difference in an open e and a fretted E on the B string and a low D played in a 5’er takes on a lot of ‘weight’.
Just have fun with it and if you can play the 5er exclusively for a few weeks to really get the feel/comfortable for it. It’s a surprisingly quick period of transition!
Krispn,
I already have a couple of 6 string basses, so the use of the B string is something I'm already familiar with, but I do appreciate the tips, 100 %
Here are my couple of 6 stringers.

If you are playing bass then you have a use. It's not a 4 or 5 string, it's a bass. Full of notes that will work on every song you want to play.
Yes you're right, of course.
I'm just imaging what else i'm not taking in preference, that's all.
My bathroom scales say it weighs 4.7kg.- 1

Thanks for sharing.
P.S. This doesn't help me right now to find that these are decent. -

Very good basses. You get a lot for the money. I found my Lakland, my first 35" scale, to be the easiest bass to play.
Certainly great hardware on it and it's very well put together and set up too.
I'm not really sure what use I have for it at this point, but that will come through time, I'm sure.

It's now finished.
It needed a name and this seemed appropriate.
