Indonesian? If its a Vintage Modified P with the Duncan PU's then you are in for a treat. I have two, one which I will never sell.
It's a standard series in Candy Apple Red. Maybe around 2004 or so ?

I checked and they just say oiled finish.
None of the two have a hard life, are kept in consistent warmth and humidity, but I was just curious if I needed to do anything.

Those Fame basses are incredible value for money, if you consider the price of a similarly specced Mayones Be4 or Be5.
I played a lefty Be4 Gothic once and was very deeply impressed. It had EMG J-style pickups and simple controls (VBT) and it sounded fantastic.
That's exactly right. I bought the six new and got the fretless from here and both feel very special to me.

I have a Jabba Classic 5. I upgraded to birdseye fingerboard, 18mm spacing (which meant Delanos) and their three band eq. The build quality and attention to detail cannot be improved upon! Really top notch. The sound, however, a different story. The Mayo 3-band eq is horrible IMO, and I really didn't like the Delanos (personal taste). So in went Bart B-Axis, and East Uni-Pre. NOW it is the bass I hoped for!
Oh, I also have a Vigier. On par with that!
My lower end stuff has MEC bits in it, which I really quite like.

I guess I should look and see how Mayones finish their basses. Thanks for the advice.

The two basses in my avatar were built by them and the standard o construction is flawless, as is the playability and sound.
There's definitely another in my future.
( Mine are badged fame, I'll admit that, but they're made by Mayones) -
Looking for tips and hints about what regimes anyone might have for the above.
the two basses in my avatar have oiled finish and I want to be sure I'm doing the right thing.
How often to re-treat, what product to use, how to apply it, how to polish after application. -

I think the Mike Dirnt has a square heal, rather than the rounded one here.
That's a detail too far for me as well ;-)
We'll see how it plays and take it from there ;-) -

That's lovely!
A 50's style neck tends to be a bit on the chunky side, which I like personally. No 50's Fender came with a rosewood 'board, but that may be a neck with otherwise similar spec (perhaps taken from a Mike Dirnt, in which case the logo could be honest after all!).
Billy Talbot from Crazy Horse plays a split coil Precision with a 50's neck, which looks and sounds great in my opinion.
Good theory on the neck, but the logo is all wrong for one of those.

Nice natural colour body... but i dont do tort, so it would be black plate for me...
I do like a bit of tort, but usually against a sunburst body.
I'm curious to see whether an anodised one might fit on this.
It'll end up as a plaything and the others can remain untouched. -

The only one I can think of being similar is the Mike Dirnt, tho still a few differences.
I'd agree and have to say it's not something I have any notion for.
I'll end up with a 70s style neck and a spare 50s neck and we all know how that'll end... -
I saw this advertised and had my head turned by the covers. I've never had a P bass with covers still on there.
It has a '51 style neck on a later style body. Hopefully it goes without saying that this is no more than a P bas shaped object and no more.
Would there ever have been a bass with this combo of neck and body ?
The first thing I'll do is get rid of the logo as that's not honest.
I may consider another neck with more appropriate headstock size, to suit the body and make it a Fecker Pretender.- 1

Looks like I have a deal locally for a an Indonesian PJ which isn't quite what I had in mind, but it's low commitment and should keep me on the right site of the steering committee who already knows that there are 4 basses hanging on the wall, so...

I can strongly recommend the Bass Centre Bruce Thomas Profile, both with its stock roundwounds or La Bella flats. Superb playability and pickup!

It did draw the eye, in that colour.

Is there something I'm not understanding regarding the price of this one compared to new ?
(Whilst I'm on, I experimented with my Jaydee today in passive mode. On the neck pickup, it really does do that sound quite well. I guess I'd still like the simplicity of a P bass though.) -

The choice of good P basses nowadays is huge - how anybody can choose is beyond me...
As a recent convert to G&L and Lakland I can recommend the build quality.
Can't comment of G&L but the Lakland 55-01 I've been using is very nice.
i don't have the bar set very high here in terms of cost. I already have some really nicer basses so don't want to take the mickey. -

I'd seen it. It looks very nice.

It's a very long time since I had a P bass and now that I'm getting older, the yearning for a simple old fashioned traditional P bass is getting stronger.
Has anyone tried one of these ?

There are worse choices of bass to have a hankering for, there isn't exactly a shortage.
Another question.
Sunburst or Fiesta Red ? -

Do you have any links you can share?
My understanding was that goods manufactured in the EU and the UK would not be subject to tariffs. Mayones are made in Poland, so I don't think they would be subject to tariff or tax, just paperwork. Quite happy to be proved wrong.
Richard,
I'd be delighted to be proven wrong too. My understanding is that VAT might be an element ? I'd looked into buying from Thomann and they no longer charge VAT for goods over £135, as per the new rules, and that's chargeable here. All as I understand it.

If you were in the UK, I would have this in a heartbeat, but with the fact taxes will apply when shipping from the EU and possibly tariffs, it will be a lot more expensive that the asking price. it is a shame what this brexit crap has created.
Mike,
I've been looking into this for other items too.
It's f**in' b*ll**ks
(P.S. These really are great instruments. :-( ) -

It’s darn sarff at The Gallery, but delivery is available (one of the reasons I entrusted it with them).
I'm moving stuff around right now 😉

All of the other basses I have are active.
Some with two band EQ, some with 3 band.
I invariably have the EQ set flat around the centre detent position on each.
The most I'll ever do is move the pan pot 10 percent in the direction of the bridge pickup.
It speaks volumes for the sound you get from a pickup in just the right place and doing nothing to the EQ.
