I agree.  I thought people were talking about recovering passwords from data i.e. when the hashed password file has been leaked.
If you don't have that file, then like you say, you can't brute force directly on the live site as it would take billions of years - and the site locks you out after three attempts anyway.
Perhaps a less worse method would be the other way round: pick a common password and then try it in combination with known usernames.

The scenario is that the password file has been leaked. In that case, the passwords will be cracked locally, not against the live site.

the engineer could not compress the output enough to get a clean PA signal, kept asking me to turn amp volume down

Perhaps the line out signal was too hot - but did the engineer also have a separate issue of the stage volume being too loud?  It depends how you interpret "kept asking me to turn amp volume down" - did he mean "turn the line out level down" or did he mean "turn the stage volume down".

For the line out signal being too hot -
How were your gain and master set?  You probably know this, but just to clarify: adjusting the master volume doesn't affect the level of the line out going to the desk.  To reduce the line out level but maintain the same stage volume, you'd need to reduce the gain (either by turning down the gain knob, or by pressing in the input pad) and then re-establish your stage volume by turning the master volume up; that might affect your tone though - but perhaps a compromise would have to be made there.

Separately, if there was an issue that the bass was too loud on stage, to the point where the volume of bass coming through the PA was set to zero but it's still too loud for FOH, then you would need to reduce the stage volume, by turning down the master on your amp.  When I've been in this situation, I 100% trust our sound engineer and so have to deal with being quieter on stage.  Sometimes though I can tweak the EQ - perhaps lower my overall volume but boost some upper mids - so I am quieter but attempt can find a frequency which cuts through (to my ears) better.

Great stuff. I love those tuners and I've been wondering if they could accept, and hold, a bass string for my next build.

I've looked into these in the past - isn't there a max string gauge?

    https://www.stewmac.com/parts-and-hardware/tuning-machines/solid-peghead-guitar-tuning-machines/steinberger-gearless-tuners/

    "Maximum string gauge: 0.060" (1.52mm)."

  6. I mean use only the effects send, without plugging anything back into the effects return (i.e. don't complete the loop).
This results in the signal being split: the original path remains, through the power section and real cab; and an additional path now, through the cab sim and external DI box.

This is how I would expect most amps to route in general, but check your specific manual/schematic.

  7. If you put a mic'ed instrument through backline, it will feedback.

Go through the same PA that your singer etc (i.e. anyone/anything with a mic) is going through.

Or if there is no PA... I'm curious what the band line-up is and why/how it is so loud that you need to mic a sax.

let me add that three guitars can be two to three too many :D

I'm not sure if I've missed How1's point - but some Motown tracks e.g. Ain't No Mountain High Enough had three guitars (Willis, Messina, and White) and a string section.  There was a lot of instrumentation but Motown was arranged and produced really well.

I bought this used, and the original description said: "Hand finished in nitro it has been bleached with Oxalic acid then aniline dyed yellow under the sealer coat as per older 50’s/60’s factory process to give a strong yellow centre.  Sunburst then applied over sealer coat with three coats of clear gloss and buffed"

There is some (lovely) wear - see photos.  The finish will become even more beautiful as it continues to age naturally.

    Bad bits:

    • The neck pocket has a small slice missing off the G-side corner.  This is cosmetic and doesn't affect stability of the neck mount.
    • If the bridge is tightened down a normal amount, the front (i.e. neck side) raises off the body a bit.  So I just didn't over tighten it, and the string tension holds it down fine with no problems.

The loaded body weighs 2742g on my kitchen scales, so you're looking at a finished bass of about 4kg (depending on the neck and tuners).

Any questions, please reply on the thread or send me a private message.

I made a dedicated Mesa 400+ based preset that does sound sweet and slots in the mix nicely.

Sounds like you're happy with your Helix tone - and that goes 100% hand in hand with neutral amplification.

You could get separates, but really you can't beat powered speakers for this application:
E.g. RCF 732-A is £700 and 18kg.  (This is what I used to have.)
FBT ProMaxx 112a is £750 and 15kg. (This is what I have now.)
Or similar from QSC (K12.2) and Yamaha (DXR12).

As a comparison, if you were to buy separates: just looking at cabs, a Big Baby 3 is £1150 or a LFSys Monaco is £750.  I.e. already costs more even without buying a power amp yet.

The above RCF etc powered speakers all have DSP, one advantage of which is that it allows you to get the most out of the speaker physically if you did need to push it, but while also preventing it from damage.  Having said that, I play in a 10-piece function band, and a 12" powered speaker is more than enough - I've never been close to running out of volume.

Form factor is great as has tilt (wedge) ability built in.

Lots of different venues, some of which with poor stage acoustics - but I never have a problem hearing myself, due to the good dispersion and clarity of the powered speaker.  This was not always the case with my previous traditional bass cabs.

Interestingly one of the comments on Talkbass posted this morning seems to be coming up with pretty much the exact same suggestion as mine above: "Alternatively, you could use the Thru connection to split your signal. Adding effects to the separate signal path which you could then combine back in with your primary signal using something like a Boss LS-2."

I don't think your suggestion will work, with the SGT being plugged back into itself.  You are connecting the through output back to the SGT input, via the ABY - which is a feedback loop.  The Talkbass suggestion is different: connect the bass to the SGT input; the through output and main output to the ABY pedal; and then routing that into an amp etc.
