  1. Thanks for the reply.. I've got a couple of the Klark Teknik 1176 clones too which are excellent and I generally prefer them to my software (especially in 'all buttons' mode) although it's not a night and day difference . Sadly, I've never had a play with 'real' Urei one but if the WA comp is to the genuine article what my KTs are to the software, I'd be more than satisfied. I'm very pleased with the VLA I currently have doing the job as it truly is a great compressor but I just wish it had a side chain - it's my only criticism of the unit.
  2. Has anyone used one of these yet? I currently have an ART VLA Pro 2 doing my L/R compression and it's a great unit that sounds great with a lovely 'fat' character but intrigue is tempting me with one of those WA units.
  3. My old mate Kirk Brandon doing an 'akoustik' show at The Rigger. I'm expecting it'll be a reasonably low key event but it'll be lovely to see some live stuff again. See if I can still mix!?
  4. So this week will be the first time I'll be using an 02R live since August - it should be interesting! I've still used them in recording world so there's a fighting chance the live show will be ok but still, fingers crossed.. 😁 IMG_20210424_204329 by VTypeV4, on Flickr IMG_20210206_201930 by VTypeV4, on Flickr IMG_20210313_201004 by VTypeV4, on Flickr And a cheeky snap of the DM as I've used that more than anything else in the last 6 months.. 5. Great news - very cool. 😎
  6. Cheers, many thanks. 😎
  7. I met Paul Stevens at one of the guitar shows at Birmingham many years back and he seemed a nice enough chap. Sadly, I didn't get chance to quiz him on the finer points of the lovely, shiny black v-types.. I think Clive Button would have likely been involved with the design of the original v-type series as he worked at TE for many years.. As for numbers, the serial suggests it's number seven..
  8. It's lovely to see another - especially when it's been saved from oblivion.. 😎 Thanks for the kind words too. I was never able to confirm how many of these things actually exist although last I heard, there were 45 in total. 15 heads, 15 two-ten combos and and 15 one-fifteen combos. Does anyone have anymore info on that front?
  9. Many thanks.. πŸ˜€
  10. Thank you - glad you enjoyed it @WarwickRoss .. I used mine on a session last night and it'll still knock a hole in a wall!

  12. Prices seem to vary massively but generally agree with the above consensus.. The V-Type and older valve ranges have always commanded bigger coin - especially the ultra rare and 'semi mythical' (I like that, Thodrik!) models like the V8. I can't ever see prices of these falling.. As for the classic 7 and twelve band models, I recently picked up a 400SMX, 2103H & 1153 delivered for Β£265 - probably Β£1800 when new and they haven't been current for over 20 years now so even more in today's money.. I feel I got this for a steal, frankly. Whether prices will rise or fall for these classic ranges, I'm not sure either way although it's certainly a buyers market at the min.. I'm going to try find and scan some of my old catalogues this afternoon. πŸ˜€
  13. Love it - great work folks.. πŸ˜€
  14. IMG_20201223_172905 by VTypeV4, on Flickr So far, so good although it doesn't like cheap batteries.. 😎 I'm going to A/B it with the LMB-3 through both the Bassman and V4 too.
  15. Thanks everyone - will report back when it lands.. 😎
  16. I've paid £30 for this one so not a bad price.. I've good experience with dbx gear - can't really think of any that I didn't get on with both live and in the studio in the last 20 years. 😎
  17. So, the wonders of eBay once again got the better of me and I have one of these on the way.. I like the dual band (with variable x-over) design so I'm hoping it'll be a bit 'SMX' as I truly love those. I've also noticed the dbx logo in tiny letters on the panel so hopefully the quality stands up to that of the rack units I have at the studio too.. Anyone use one / had one or had any experience?
  18. Thanks Mike, although strangely, I still prefer the 02R / LS9 'three knob / four button' EQ control rather than the DMs two per-band layout but that's about the worst thing I can say about it. 😎 Really pleased the SQ is working out for you, I can't say as I've heard a bad word about them on any level. Good to know the lineage has carried well - they got it right with the Qu - it's superb especially given that it's now a few years old and in an entry level position. It's great to see you've got work too - I have a few industry friends who are frankly a little lost at the min. As for work, it's been 'interesting' to say the least! The studio is plodding along nicely and despite being the centre of my worry back in March, it's the least of them now. I have a steady stream of work both remote and in person plus some of the projects have been really interesting and genuinely enjoyable. On the live front I've sort of done one show but it was at a closed venue largely for a multi-track live recording to be remixed and streamed later. Suffice to say no touring work at all which is a little sad..
  19. Looks lovely, Mike - haven't had my hands on an SQ yet but they look the mutts nuts! I always enjoy A&H products when on tour - a Qu or iLive is always a welcome sight.. Glad you're still at it too! IMG_20200610_135010 by VTypeV4, on Flickr DM2000 still going strong after 12 months in service - I couldn't do without it now.. IMG_20200730_232032_resized_20200730_112110794 by VTypeV4, on Flickr And of course, my beloved 02Rs - they're all still going although the one at The Rigger hasn't done much recently..
  20. Thanks to everyone for their kind comments regarding this review - it's appreciated and very humbling. It's a lovely community here on Basschat. 😎 As for Trace Elliot gear, my journey started with a little Boxer 30 back in 1998 and it was a stonking little amp! I remember carrying it to school on a couple of occasions and it running rings round the nasty 'Syncron Bass' amplifier that was there at the time. Fast forward 18 months or so and my first 'proper' amp was a 712SMC which continued the now 22 year love affair for all things TE.. πŸ’š

The valve appears to be original as it's got 'Trace Elliot' printed on the side but it works fine with no distortion or difference in gain so I've left it in. 😎
  22. Much appreciated. 😎
  23. Thanks, Lozz.. πŸ€— I had a 300 about twenty years ago - it sounded great but suffered from a few dry joints on the infamous 'bi polar bear' power stage. Hope you get it fixed, I'm sure you'll love it all over again. 😎
  24. Thanks, I'd honestly forgotten how they were.
  25. Ha, cheers man.. 🀣
