1. Ive just recently bought an Ashdown Little Giant that I plan to use with a 1200w cabinet (the kind boy racers use in their cars and they go boom! boom! boom!) which I bought for sweeties at a car boot sale. I think I will need to add a tweeter to cab as a bit too heavy on the bass side. If it works, it will be a fine small space saver set-up for long haul gigs and might double up for double bass? All I need is a wiring diagram, anybody out there know how to add a horn to a cabinet or should I get a pro to do it?

2. Hi I'm currently using a KK Dual Channel pro st pre-amp running an Underwood and a Fishman through pre-amp. but to be honest, I don't think it makes much of a difference sound or volume wise! and I sometimes just run from pick ups straight to amp and to my mind, its no better or worse. I have an old LR Baggs gig-pro that needs a treble pot replaced so might try that if I can source 25k pots, So what do you think guys, is the KK any use with my pick ups or should I get LR Baggs fixed and if so where? how? anyone got spares?

Thanks
Calum

Only thing I have noticed is that when pre-amp engaged, I get a bit more brightness but that could be down to inside pre amp settings!

Hi all,

Today i got my Jackson concert XL bass back after 11 years. It was stolen from a shop in Gloucester in 1991 i had at the time been looking to sell it on comission, when some toerag pinched it. The shop would not claim on their insurance, but did report it. I was as you can imagine not happy. Fast forward to 4 weeks ago, my daughter and her fiancee were staying at our house and watching some celebrity dancing sh**e. So i decided to look on ebay (i hardly ever bother normally) put in basses within 75miles of my postcode, scroll through the basses and up pops a Jackson concert, i take a closer look, its been refinished, i had mine refinished, same pickups, same sharksfin inlays, bound neck etc. So i e-mail the seller, who could not have been more helpful, we speak on the phone, i discribe the bass etc then i contact the police get the original incident number, get back in touch with the seller who says he bought it from Crack converters in Gloucester (who have been less than helpful). police pick it up, return it to the original shop and i picked it up from there today. Still plays great, still the best neck i have ever played, just got to sort the crackly jack socket out. To finsh off the story i went into the newsagent on the way home Bass Guitar Magazine - Dave Ellefson on the cover (hes the reason i bought my Jackson originally) and his new Jackson signature bass conicidence or what? sorry for the long winded tale but i'm stoked.

Nice story mate!
Happy ending.

it's just a couple of jack sockets, useful if you have two pickups and a neat way of connecting them
Oh right, looks cool! I use a KK blender with the 2 pick-ups I have on my bass, thanks for the offer but if you've got anything else your offloading, give me a shout.

Excuse my ignorance slobluesine, Its a pick -up right? how does it work? couldn't find any info online! any good for jazz or made for rockabilly gut strings?

8. That's a great review Tom, I bought one on PAY-PAL last night on the strength of listening to your clips so can't wait to try.

My plan is to use Hurley on my back up bass along with BP100 then plug both into KK blender and blend both. For my main bass I use Underwood and BP100 then thru KK which I think works well. I know The Fishman get bad press but I like it for the most part. I find the combo of both irons out any dead spots or quiet notes. I think what you are doing is great! When I think of the money I have spent over the years on mikes and pick-ups amps and stuff,it would have been great to have a try before you buy up and running. This site is a great resource too for tech problems advice and bouncing ideas off other players, just wish it was here 25 years ago, would have saved me a fortune.

All the best

So, this pup is now installed, not too much fuss but I had to file down the treble side slot for it to fit. The Hurley has noticeably less output than the Full Circle. I played with the tightness of the Hurley a bit but that just changed the tone and not output really. To me the FC is fuller and more even up and down the register, but darker than the Hurley. The Hurley has a nice treble ping to the attack and a bigger bottom, almost sounds more "open".

I made a few no frills recordings, this is the bass into an Art tube MP preamp into my audio device on the laptop. These were wavs that I converted to mp3 for size. Probably best to use head phones or good speakers. The bass is a cheap hybrid with med-high action and Velvet Animas. Be gentle on my playing ;)

The Hurley

The Full Circle

EDIT: I tried to attach these files as mp3. It saves them with a different extension for some reason. If you download it then change the extension to mp3 it will play. Not sure how else to upload these. I tried Sound Cloud but it buggared the sound of the file and introduced noise <_<

Well done Tom, thanks for taking the time to do this, I have to say like Gareth I also preferred the Hurley. Sounded beefier, with more attack! Don't get me wrong your pup sounded very good too but for me The Hurley has more balls and cut through better. I also enjoyed the playing, again well done! I was going to hold out for a second hand Underwood but now I'm away to grab one of those bad boys

Cheers
