Darren Reddick - plays a Spector I believe and on the cover band circuit in Surrey (I think its Asylum Affair he's in but I may be wrong).

We have the guitarist form Asylum Affair dep for us quite often, lovely chap and a very good player

I have been really enjoying the new Green Lung album, Black Harvest.

They have been picking up quite a bit of mainstream attention, The Guardian even did an article about them.

Critics could call them Sabbath clones, but there is enough of a twist for me to stop them being too derivative of other bands. The guitar work for a start has loads of Brian May influences which I really like. I also love the way that they have a lot of old school English folk music influences and despite not being a massive fan of organs, I think that the addition of a full time organ player really helps the band. I really like the production too. Sometimes they remind me of what would happen if you mixed Black Sabbath and Boston.

Between that an Boss Keloid, both of my favourite 'heavier' albums this year have been released by bands from England, which is a nice change. There is of course the new Mastodon album out this week which I am looking forward to as well.

I'm looking forward to seeing Green Lung at Damnation next weekend, they and Boss Keloid are both on the stage I'm working (though I think I'm watching someone else when Boss Keloid are on)

  3. I'm assuming it's a first dance type affair? That's always tricky as couples tend to pick a song that means something to them.

If it helps, when we got married we nearly went with the acoustic version of Everlong by the Foo Fighters, but in the end decided on Muse's cover of I Can't Take My Eyes Off You, mostly because it's fun.

  4. I bought a pedal from Tim, great communication, fast and easy to buy from.

Looking forward to making daft noises with the flanger he sold me, going by the photos it's been well packed.

Mostly for the sound of impending apocalypse, I'd like the Jeff Matz signature Dunable

Jeff is a great bassist, I'm a big fan of High On Fire

Have you seen that he's joined Mutoid Man as well now?

I love the black Gibson Ripper Caleb Scofield played in the Antenna era of Cave In, I can't find a photo of it, so here's him playing it on the Anchor video

  7. Pub gig last night, it was dead - I think it being mid-month, the weather being decent and that the venue have changed their name recently all didn't help.

I didn't really want to be there and to be honest made more mistakes than usual, partly as it was with a (very good) dep guitarist, so the set-list was a some of our less performed songs. It didn't seem to be an issue with the punters who were there though.

  8. Resurrecting this thread as I've been checking out Cryptic Shift after they were announced for Damantion Festival this year.

If you like spacey-death metal with some very good, prominent fretless work, this is well worth checking out - I'm really looking forward to seeing them in November. Plus they're from Leeds, so it's always nice to support home grown talent

  9. Bought a couple of bits on Bandcamp today:

    Dreamwell - Modern Grotesque

    https://dreamwell.bandcamp.com/album/modern-grotesque

Post hardcore, basically the band I had on my head to start - think a mathier/heavier Touché Amoré

    Chamber - Cost Of Sacrifice

    https://chambertn.bandcamp.com/album/cost-of-sacrifice

Dissonant math/metal-core, I saw one of Hate5six's live videos and loved it

Kowloon Walled City - Container Ships

Kinda doomy post-metal, the first ISIS record is the closest touch point I can hear, some lovely Alembic bass tone too.

Yeah, I'm another one who can't sleep after a gig. Need at least a couple of hours after getting home before going to bed.

Maybe adrenaline still in the blood or something!

When I used to live closer to most of our gigs, when I got home I'd have a candle lit bath with bath salts, beef jerky, scotch, listen to post-rock and read my book. That really helped, now we have an en-suite I might resurrect that for local gigs again.
