2. Amazed this one is still on there. Perhaps the Rickenfuhrers are asleep. 3.
Without wishing to labour the issue - it's not a case of lightening up - there is no humorous side to this that I am missing but more what is or isn't morally acceptable. You think it is fair play, I don't - simple as that. We all behave according to some internal set of values and they are not all the same. All I say is turn it around - imagine turning up for your next band rehearsal believing everything to be fine and dandy only to find you have been outed without prior warning and someone else is plugging their Ricky into their amp in your usual corner. It wouldn't be a nice feeling.
Very true, but my point was about having a sense of perspective about what is going on in that band, taking into account the state of the planet at the moment, as opposed to what your or my values are. I actually agree with you that it's not perhaps the kindest way of doing things - I just thought the advert was funny. Perhaps as a 51 year old who has been round the block a few times, my outlook on this is rather more laid back than a 20 something who's about to get his sorry arse booted out of a band because he's a stranger to soap. At least he's not coming back from Afghanistan in a wooden box.
4. I spent £120, £200, £230 and £1400 on my 4 I've wanted a Ricky 4001 for 35 years, after hearing The Yes Album, and when I could finally afford one, I loved it, went right off it for a while, then loved it again. However, if I had to choose only one of them to keep, it would be my Westone Thunder III fretless that cost me £230
5. I've tried... Picato - the smoothest flatwounds I've found, and a good price, but not very bright tone Fender - sound like you're playing a banjo when they're brand new, but they mellow down. D'Addario half-flats - hated them - all the noise of roundwounds Rotosound RS77LD Jazz Bass - love 'em. Now my string of choice for my Westone. I also use RS66LD Swing Bass on my Ricky - lovely!!!
6. I think it's a brilliant advert. Shame I'm an old fart who lives in Cornwall. Lighten up lads - it's an advert for a bass player - they're not asking for someone to cure cancer or teach unicorns to fly!!!
7. Hi to all you Basschatters. I've posted a couple of things already, but thought I'd better be polite and stand at the front of the class for a couple of minutes. Currently enjoying my mid-life crisis and building a collection of 4 string planks, much to my wife's exasperation. I started off as a bedroom bass hero, but after plucking up the courage to start going to the Jam Night at the MMI Bar in St Agnes, I've been asked by a few people to play bass with them and their own bands. You'll still see me almost every Wednesday night at the MMI, even though we're currently having to go acoustic for a couple of weeks following noise complaints from the neighbour Current banjo list is....... 1977 Rickenbacker 4001 in Autumn Glo - have to thank Chris Squire and The Yes Album for starting my 40 year love affair with the Ricky 1985 Westone Thunder III fretless - probably my favourite guitar to play 1990's Yamaha BB404 fretless - first one I bought, about 5 years ago. Now in retirement following the purchase of the big hitters above. Nice, easy playing, bass. Unknown - Harper fretless electro-acoustic - bought from fleaBay last week to cover our enforced acoustic sessions at Jam Night Marshall MB150 combo Boss ME20 Bass effects pedal Future purchase would be a Ricky 4001 fretless in Mapleglo - there was one sold on here in July that was the perfect thing. Some brilliant, useful, information here on Basschat, particularly the eBay watchers - keep up the good work All the best Dave PS - into Porcupine Tree, Yes (obviously), Marillion, Floyd, Rush, PG Genesis, and most of the usual suspects of 70's - 80's rock/metal
8. My '77 4001 has Rotosound RS66LD 45-105's on it and it's as happy as Happy Jack McHappy on Christmas Day
