  1. Bit of a glum old day today, I was spending too much time checking out bass stuff on Ebay and at risk of buying something else that I can't afford, decided I should have a bass workout as a distraction. I couldn't decide what to play, but wanted a challenge, so loaded up the cd with fragile by Yes. Perhaps not that sensible without a few warm up exercises. That Chris Squire came up with some busy bass lines and I've now got a seriously uncomfortable arm! Enjoyed it though, but wish I knew what the chord progression is, particularly the fast passages. Cheers Gary
  2. I think it was back in 1972 or thereabouts, went to stay at a mates house for a few days and got introduced to Led Zepp two. Soon as I got back home I started bugging mum and dad for a bass. It took a few months and then one day my dad came home from work with a guitar shaped box. It was so exciting opening that case for the first time. My first bass an Epiphone semi acoustic. I recall being a tad disappointed that I didn't sound like John Paul Jones (all these years later, I still don't). I think the first bass line that I learnt all the way through was The Beatles, Let it Be. Gary
  3. thanks for your time and advice chaps. The fuse I replaced with is of the slow blow variety so hopefully all will be well. Cheers. Gary.
  4. This may not even be a problem, but just thought I would ask. I switched on my Trace combo a few nights back and nowt happened. After a bit of fiddling about I discovered that the the fuse in the amp had blown. I fitted a replacement, which did the trick. My question is: do fuses sometimes blow for no apparent reason, or is it a sign of a potential fault? The replacement has not blown, but I'm just wary now and worried about the same happening mid gig or rehearsal. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. All the best Gary.
  5. hi sparkl. Hope you find the site as enjoyable as I am. Cheers Gary
  6. hello mate from a fellow newbie. Seems like a good friendly site doesn't it. All the best Gary
  7. Sounds good. Just got to patient now I guess. Savour the wait though, it makes it all the better when you finally get your hands on the finished item.
  8. It sounds just great and although it's not active, it really cuts through. It's the bass that my daughter is learning on. I keep telling her that she doesn't realise how fortunate she is to be learning on such an instrument. I'm on the lookout for something more appropriate for a novice, trouble is she is not all that receptive to an encore or similar. All the best.
  9. Just wanted to see if I could upload a photo sucessfully, so chuffed that I won't have to enlist help of computer literate daughter. Congratulating myself on being a grown up. Will sort some more pics later if u lot are interested. All the best Gary.

  11. [attachment=3915:musical_006.jpg] First attempt at uploading a pic, hopefully it will work, if not then back to the drawing board

  13. Hello to you all from a fellow bass player. Discovered this site a couple of days back and have been visiting a few times to check it out. So pleased to discover a friendly and busy forum, so took the plunge and signed up. Not playing much these days due to health probs, but still as enthusiastic about the bass as I was way back when. I do an occassional dep but that's about it. Still pick up the bass most days and over the last couple of months have been trying to teach my eldest daughter to play. Must say she is doing well, her sense of timing is good, probably because she started drumming at twelve. The bass that I play most days(because it hangs on the lounge wall) is a yamaha BB1200. I also own a Wal and a Fender Precision Deluxe. Just love them all. Rig wise: A warwick combo and Harke extension cab. Also a Trace 300 watt combo, which is my fave, but I find it a strain to lift these days. Guess thats enough waffling for now. All the bes, Gary.
