1. It's impossible to resist sliding into every change at first. It sounds so sexy, but once you get over that particular distraction it's witout doubt a much better format than fretted. Having said that I don't currently own a fretless. I have two fretless necks and countless bodies to match so I guess in theory I own several. Lol......trotting off to the workshop.

Sorry chap, I can't budge the deadline this month! :(

The reason being I'm away in Amsterdam from Sunday night until Thursday next week (sadly business, not pleasure) and I wouldn't want to delay the kick off until Thursday/Friday, as that would mean biting a chunk out of next month's composition time.

If you can get something finished for Monday night that would be fine*. I mean... you can submit a track anytime after the deadline if you like; it just might not get the votes it deserves with everyone else having a head start. But better late than never!

Sorry to be such a scrooge. Any other time and I'd happily give you a couple of extra days.

*EDIT: let me know in advance if you plan to do this, and I'll try to make sure I have an Internet connection that evening.

Cheers dude.

20 feet from stardom was fascinating and had some incredible examples of how life can take so many paths, not least the beautiful and talented woman who sang backing for the Rolling Stones, dated Jagger and appeared in Playboy, but knocked it on the head to become a high school English teacher.

That sounds great. I will check it out.

A couple of good ones I've come across recently :

Muscle Shoals - which, as the title suggests, tells the story of the famous studios and the players/owners,

and The Story of the Eagles (I think that's the title). Blimey, what an eye opener, and there is clearly still a lot of bad feeling in the extended membership, but none of it helped by too much touring, and similar amounts of Booze and cocaine. Makes you realise what a remarkable back catalogue they have though, and Joe Walsh is worth watching alone - disjointed rambling anecdotes, but some razor sharp playing.

The Eagles documentary is class. Jo Walsh is a nutter. I find it all so cliche and boring now though. I remember wanting nothing more than to live that wild crazy lifestyle and raise as much hell as possible wherever I went..... Now I couldn't think of anything worse or more selfish. When I look back sometimes I'm utterly ashamed. That aside it was a great show and what a back catalogue. Glenn Frey came across quite bad I thought.

I never know, when I see this, whether only praise is wanted, or (hopefully..!) constructive criticism, but I'll chance my arm with this. Please be assured, however, from the outset that I'm in no way disparaging the effort that's gone into this, and that my tastes, such as they are, are likely to be wildly different. Firstly, then, kudos for getting such a result, and for sharing...
My overall impression (take this as being positive approbation...) was The Byrds meet R.E.M. meet The Who. I had no problems with the guitars, nor the vocals (maybe a bit more clarity for comprehension, but my hearing isn't great either, so...), especially the harmony backing. I was less impressed by the bass, unfortunately, which I found unnecessarily fussy, neglecting its duty of filling out the low end. A question of composition rather than playing technique, and I'll admit to being a bit 'old school' in that respect (doesn't stop me appreciating The Ox, or Jack Casady, though..! ;) ). I liked even less the 'bass solo' spot towards the end; again, not from the 'fret noise' point of view, merely the appropriateness of the passage. Sorry.
Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there, as I liked the drums even less. I got the impression of 'dragging', with timing issues, exacerbated by (again, in my humble opinion...) a lousy snare sound and under-defined kick. Again, sorry.
My apologies for not being more enthusiastic; I really wish I could have been more kindly. Please take no umbrage from this; if it rankles, ignore it as the rantings of an old deaf fuddy-duddy. Congratulations on being able, as a group, to compose, arrange, play and record to such a high standard.
Hope this helps.

Omg.....I think we were supposed to focus on the fret noise.... However, Douglas is nothing if not fair so I would have to say a direct and genuine appraisal there old boy. I have a terrible ear for this sort of thing so I won't comment.
