Our guitarist has the guitar version and has used it on few gigs and it's been quite good.  I wouldn't use the bass version for anything other than a practice amp though.

I just looked on the Vox site and while the guitar version has a 10" speaker, the bass version only has an 8".  Strange.

If it's lasted 8 years then I would have thought that anything that could go wrong with it would have already happened.  I think it's safe to buy.

Barefaced don't use standard Eminence speakers anymore.  As the company has grown, Alex is now in the position of being able to design the speaker parameters that he requires and Eminence make for him and anyone who has a 3rd generation Barefaced cab can confirm that that approach has worked well.

Used to play it a few years ago and it always went down brilliantly and we used to do the album version!

With regards to that twin neck bass, I found this.  Interesting.

Rinus plays a custom built double neck in the shape of a Danelectro longhorn (A bass which he was a well known fan of) But the halves are COMPLETELY different from each other.

The upper half of the bass has a Fender P-bass neck, Bill Lawrence pickups and that portion of the body is made from solid alder.

The lower half of the bass is hollow with a masonite plate fitted flush to the top of the body, the Dano neck is a 30 inch short scale and it has 24 frets, the lowerhalf also has a kahler whammy.

When in concert Rinus Plays almost the entire set on this double neck, interchanging necks when a different sound is needed, it has the "Boom" of a P-bass and the twang of a Dano.

Played a Long Horn when I saw then live in the 70s.  Brilliant band as well!

I remember playing in clubs in Germany in the 70s and it was all done illegally.  Simple visitor's passport issued by the post office, a hastily typed up list of equipment which we called our carnet, a ferry from dover and hope for the best.  Luckily, we got away with it.

Don't forget that George Harrison was deported from Germany in 1960 for being under age.

They used ILP electronics power amp modules in their combos.  Quite good actually.

Getting back to the bass.  Reading the specs, the nut seems quite wide.  Is the neck more jazz or precision?  Is it thin or chunky? 

I wouldn't play it at all.  Hate it with a vengeance!!!

A while ago my amp died on me and to get me by I used an old Traynor power amp I had lying around and a Behringer graphic eq pedal to drive it with.  I was surprised at how good it sounded and you could buy something similar for peanuts.

I have an old power amp that you could have FOC but I've just noticed that you're about as far away from me as you can get without crossing a sea.

You're so right.  I wish I still had it then I could sell it for a goodly amount as recompense for the suffering.

Did you know that a drum stick can seriously dent your bass!  I didn't until a drummer hit mine with one.  Never could get that dent out of the neck.

I bought a 72 precision new in, unsurprisingly, 1972.  Left handed and sunburst for £220.  Unfortunately, it was rubbish!

I've been with headset mic for a number of years and it's brilliant.  I use a Line 6 XD-V55HS Digital Wireless Headset Mic System and it's never let me down.  The transmitter clips to your belt and runs on 2 x AA batteries.  I use rechargeable batteries for both the mic and bass.

The headset mic itself however is total rubbish so I use a Shure SM35-TQG which is great.  I've only just it bought to replace a Shure WH30 which has been discontinued.

I've also built an on / off footswitch for it so that I can switch the mic off if I need to cough etc.  The transmitter does have a mute function, press the button for 2 seconds, which may well be good enough for you but as I take most of the lead vocals and play bass it's a bit difficult to stop playing for 2 seconds to press the button.

If you don't move around a lot you could think about a wired mic which would be a lot cheaper.  Again I'd recommend a Shure headset but this time with an XLR connectors.

I can only recommend going the headset route.

Stupid question time alert!!!

The Safire Pro 14 has 2 inputs on the front with gain controls and has a further 2 line inputs on the back without gain controls.  It also has a 2 channel S/PDIF output.  The S/PDIF outputs a stereo signal if I've read it correctly.  Where does the input for the S/PDIF outputs come from?  Is it from the 2 inputs on the front or the line inputs on the back or somewhere else entirely, or have I no understanding of this at all.
