Good point well made. I suppose I just fancy a single 4ohm cab solution. Also, in my head the second 1x12 could be simpler (no crossover or compression driver).

Like a lot of us, I followed the design mega thread of the Basschat 1x12 with great interest (and the simpler version too). I am thinking of building one, but I really fancy a 2x12. My question to @stevieand @Phil Starr is would it simply be a case of doubling the cab size to add a second 12” driver (even in a divided box if necessary)?

Sounds like we need another NE Bass Bash once the prototype is available 😎 -

I’m available 😎 I was also an early tester for the YI200 and still intend buying one when funds permit. -
But woefully supported here in the UK 😞

Great little combos, don’t be put off by the 8” speakers, these things shift so serious air. I’ve used mine with five string basses, acoustic basses and a five string KK EUB.

Very nice and an interesting pickup selection. That red is very vibrant, I love it!

Looks like it, I could spend hours in there and the smell is just divine to any amateur (or for that matter professional) wood butcher 😎

Thanks Phil, Very helpful explanation.

I went a slightly different route and bought the Head of Doom instead which is an awesome amp 😎
-
Ah that might explain it then - not having much electronics know how is this because of the physical size of the crossover components that would have to be used in the cabinet?

Martin is a one-man band and I know he’s been very busy of late, including moving his premises so it might be worth trying again?

If you’re looking for medium weight all valve then don’t forget Stoneham’s beautiful 200W amp head. https://www.stonehamamps.co.uk/product/yi200-head/?

So years ago I used to run an SWR Triad which was the sweetest sounding if underpowered cabinet I’ve played through. Then I got my hands on a Schroeder 21012 which whilst probably more a two-way cab was the best single cab room filling solution. When Alex started Barefaced he placed a lot of store in three-way designs with a dedicated mid-range driver although he’s subsequently moved away from that approach. So given the advances in loud speaker design would a modern three-way design be viable as a single cab solution (I’m thinking a 1200W Triad)?

Compact budget PA set-up to put bass through (without back-line).
JPJ replied to Al Krow's topic in PA set up and use
Our PA is probably ‘small’ but handles the full band (drums, bass, 2 x guitars, 3xVOX, 1 x fiddle). The guitars and bass all have back line so I pan the signal in the PA to even things up out front. The PA comprises 2 x EV ZLX15P’s + 2 x Peavey Pro15 powered subs with a Behringer XR18 on desk duties and a Driverack for crossover/speaker management. One advantage of 2 subs is they provide a much sturdier platform for pole mounting the tops than stands and is more ‘drunk punter’proof’ in my experience. In reality, despite the ZLX’s being marketed at 1000W, we’ve probably got closer to 600W per side flat out, but this is more than enough for the venues we play where we are required to provide the PA. -

Refinishing Gloss Black Body with Nitro
JPJ replied to nationofzeros's topic in Repairs and Technical
This is a telecaster body I refinished using nitro in rattle cans from Rothko & Frost. To make sure I got a good finish, I stripped it to bare wood and then primed with grey nitro primer and finished with about six top coats flatting each one. After 6 weeks of curing I wet sanded with 2000 grit paper then hand polished with three grades of finishing compound. No lacquer was used. Personally, I wouldn’t clear over black. -
One of my earliest recollections of becoming aware of the bass as an instrument was when a boyfriend of my older sister brought his Precision bass to our house. Must have been mid-Seventies and he’d just bought it so it was the big TV logo, and that look has stuck with me since.

The contrast between the stain and the binding looks great and it sets the bass off beautifully. That’s going to look really classy with chrome hardware 😎

Haha someone else on the same journey as me. I’ve played for years with a smooth bass heavy ‘fat’ sound believing this to be the best, but then I had a tonal nirvana moment when I realised the power of mids. I now have a much more snarly tone that just sits so much better in the mix and I’m using the same amp and cab, just different eq and more recently the addition of a SansAmp.

My small but perfectly formed bass board. Does everything I want/need and a lot more.
