1. Having had a day jammin with Geoffbassit...we've both agreed that my F Bass, whilst being a very modern instrument, is totally kickass in the vintage department, they really nail the whole fingerstyle funk jazz sound!!!
2. Hi mate, i'm in Grantham, where abouts are you, i may know a drummer here who's interested...although, my drummers pretty much tied up, but he's kick ass!
3. This is a good thread... I'm currently in a debate over what i'm GAS'ing for... The next bass i get will be my main instrument and be geared up for jazz/r'n'b/funk gigs, where slap won't be needed...so i was thinking of another F Bass with a narrower spacing, but, i'm now thinking (after falling more in love with my fretless one) a Marleaux M Bass 5 string (tuned E A D G C), with a ramp, 16mm spacing and 33/34" scale length with some wicked woods!!! Marleaux make serious serious basses guys, the tone and feel of mine is absolutely outstanding, i much prefer it to my F Bass at the moment. The electronics kick big bottoms too, it's passive tone is so sweet!!! So yeah, a Marleaux M Bass, thated do me, a European version of the Fodera beasts J
4. Hi mate...wicked wicked gigs lined up or what!!! I'm hoping to get to at least the Stern and Jenkinson gigs...they'll be awesome, the living colour one would be nuts too...although, having to travel up and down up and down might do me in a little too much Thanks for the heads up on these. J
5. Cancel the DJ5 order and get the F Bass man, you will not regret it, they're phenominal instruments!
6. Thanks for that guys!! The Funk - I'll not be down there on the 31st mate, thanks for the invite though. As for the gigs in Time Out...i spotted the 606 and Pizza express gigs, don't think either particularly appeal though, although the 606 is a wicked venue, saw Janek Gwizdala there last month...amazing! The night at the Notting Hill Arts club sounds quite cool though, has any heard any of the bands play, or been to the venue, if so, what are your thoughts? Jamie
7. Hi all, Just wondered...i'm going to be down in London this bank holiday Monday (28th May) and i'm looking for a gig to go to with a few friends, probably jazz/funk/soul sort of thing... Can anyone reccommend any bands that are playing on Monday, or any good venues worth contacting to see what's on? I'd like to check out the Mingus big band at Ronnie Scotts, but £36 a pop is a little too much Thanks in advance... Jamie
8. Hi all, Sooo...i'm going to make and install a ramp on my Ken Smith BSRB...i've bought myself a block of ebony, but haven't really got a clue what to do? I spoke with Ped and we agreed that for now, the best way to fix the ramp when it's constructed, is by using the sticky tap that you attach car number plates with, seems like a good idea, as i don't want to start having to make holes, at least with some strong tape i'll only ever have to give it a real good clean should i need to remove it! The wood, it's come covered in wax, any ideas on how best to remove this wax? As for making the actual thing, i guess it's just simply a case of making the measurements, cutting it to size, sanding down the cuts, and then fixing it...am i right? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Jamie
9. Hi there, Just a thank you firstly for offering this to us guys, it's very helpful. My dad does something similar to you, but he's not quite as knowledgable in the whole marketing for music and what not areas, so i'll ask you Firstly, is it possible for you to check out my myspace page www.myspace.com/bassjamm...i'm starting to get more work as a bass player, and i want to turn pro. So i'd like people to find that page if possible, and to get my name about a bit more...can this happen with it being a myspace page? Secondly, i'm looking to build myself, and my band, some websites. I've very little knowledge of html and all of that gumph, but i am very particular with graphics and what not and a bit picky. As you'll see on my myspace page, i can edit images and stuff and get an image to look ok, but that's not building websites. You mentioned using a ready made template, will i be able to edit a template enough to incorporate editted images etc? Back to the what i want from the sites...for my personal one, it'll be to complement my myspace page in that i want to get more work from it, it to look really slick and cool, and to portray me in a very professional manner. For the band, we're looking to get some serious originals gigs, we want to have a very cool image, and we also want to be found by promoters, agencies, managers, but not party land ones, ones looking to promote good cool original stuff. Does that make sense? Hope i'm not being too cheaky by asking so much. Thanks again, Jamie
10. Thanks guys. I've also been in contact with the studio tech at Saville's (my band) studio, he said that there's not much between USB 2.0 and Firewire, so that brings an Digidesign Mbox 2 back in the line up...wahooo! As for the Celinder mate...you'll have to give me first dibs on that beast ahead of the luthier, surely? lol!
11. Thanks Kiwi...so in short...firewire is faster. How does that effect the use of an interface then, does it mean that the computer simply gets the information quicker, or is there a case of quality? Jamie p.s. did you end up with Steve's Update 4, if so, how's it playing, i'd have bought if i had the money, it's un stoppable for slapping man!
12. Hi all, Looking to get an interface, but I don't really understand the advantages of going with either a USB or Firewire interface, can anyone help me with this? Thanks Jamie
