1.
why cant you kick him out? if someone isn't pulling their weight, they are out of the band, best friend, family, or anyone. it might seem harsh, but i wont waste my time with anyone who isn't willing to put the effort in. it isn't an easy thing to do either. but needs must sometimes.
2.
Buy him this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Big-Time-Region-Import-NTSC/dp/B0002IQM84 it's an awesome DVD he'll learn loads.
Cool, sounds like a good plan!! Thanks!!
3. I just found a stage name generator that suggested the name of "Eden Savage" for me, Good idea or not lol :-)
4.
No suggestions if he wont help himself... not that I'd be that patient to wait anyway. And since he will not help the situation, then you have the one option.. New band.
Yeah, can see what your saying, think thats the best option, think i'll start looking! As bad as it makes me feel!!
5.
Very tricky but you either confront him, put up with it or leave the band. You know him better than we do but if it were me I'd seriously consider the last option as you're clearly frustrated.
I've tried all sorts, just ends in massive arguments! like brothers in bands normally do! lol i think i'll keep my eyes for another band and see what happens!
6. The trouble i got with my drummer is he's my brother and i can't kick him out. He has trouble keeping time, And it throws everyone out, and to top it off he has a massive ego and will argue with any help or constructive critism! He just plays the same roles out of time! we're only a covers band, but i spend hours practicing and trying to get things perfect, and feel quite deflated when i play with him. Any suggestions?? I'd love to play with a brilliant drummer!!
7. Thank you for all the advice, certainly given things to think about! I took the neck off to try and find out the date etc. it said made in china and the date on the neck said 10th dec 1997. So i think i'll try and find out some more from the serial no at the same time. Thanks everyone!!
8.
Depends which Squier model. I tend to start with the tuners and pups. Depends on your budget of course and what type of sound you prefer. You will get loads of recommendations for pups. Wizards are well thought of around here and not too expensive. Or you could go with Fender of course. Before you spend too much time and money, it might be worth setting it up properly and making sure that the neck is good and that the truss rod functions correctly.
Well to be honest i have never felt the need to adjust the truss rod as it has always played quite nicely, never had any fret buzz and the action has always been quite nice. I did buy it second hand from my old lead guitarist who never played it much! I've not looked into how old it is or where it was made all i know is it's possibly about 10 years old. The only thing i changed was the pick guard. My chain of thought is that squire is budget fender so the sound could be improved on, i'm not in any rush to do it so i'll buy the bits as and when i see a good deal. My band plays classic rock covers so stones, hendrix with some muse in the mix. so i'm not really after a dark tone just a nice warm tone. I had a look at the wizards pups their very reasonably priced so could be worth giving them a try. Also thinking bridge and tuners at the same time and some new rotosounds. The one thing that does make me wonder is how much difference a rewire and new pots would make.. Anyway, i think i'm waffling now as i'm tired and its 1:15 lol Thanks for the tips!
9. Hello, I still got my first bass which is a squire p bass. so i thought i'd give it a new lease of life. I want to it more for sentimental reasons. so has anyone else done anything like this, whats some decent pick ups to use? any recommeneded hardware or keep the original? what can i do to generally inprove it? any suggestions welcome...
10. The thing that i find interesting is people are saying that you can't really hear the bass in modern tracks.. Well, from a lot of heavy and rock and metal i find the bands are generally quite tight, put together with a slightly mental drummer, all playing the same riffs together, so from the drums through to the guitars they are playing pretty much the same, especially with drop D giving the guitars a faster way to play. is the guitars treading bass territory or is it the fact that the bass is playing the same rift and stopping at the same points therefor blending in better. could it be down to the bass playing not being creative enough to come up with something different to the rest of the band, or is it the traditional bass line won't fit with the song? I can understand that if it was a new band and their bass player hiding behind bad slap techniques, but that would be more on your local scene than a signed band, modern bands have to be something special to even be considered being signed in the first place! personally, i don't play slap but i can appreciate a good slapper!!
11. it would be quite ammusing to watch someone playing a rickenbagger :-)
12.
Trouble is the YT comments so often seem to be either incredibly good, or viciously bad with very little helpful stuff in the middle. Also I often wonder quite why some people would want others to see them when many are positively dreadful, unless they have some hopelessly over inflated view of their abilities. They often either get unhelpful "wow that's really good maaaaan", or vitriolic put down that just leads to a flame war
Your not wrong, i think that youtube is not the best place for constructive criticism as not everyone is bass players, but i can see the use if your linking to somewhere like here! I also think that yes it can be useful for reference on occasions!
13. I got a couple up there, but i'm not sure if i'll put any more up. They don't seem to get many hits! lol I can understand recording yourself for personal development, but don't get uploading to you tube. I could be wrong though! lol
14.
Huh? So "Fender American Standard Jazz Bass mate" is a genre? And here's me thinking I knew everything about music. I guess it's music from the island of Tanna then. Correct? best, bert
The clue is in the name..... JAZZ lol Who is Fonder anyway, never heard of them. If it was swiss it could be a Swiss Army Bass! :-) With built in bottle opener please!!
15. There ok i guess, but i was thinking of trying Rotosounds just because i've never tried them before. I think that's the way to go, try a few different sets and see which one i get with and then make a decision! So how often do you restring your bass? or is that down to personal preference too? lol
16. Well the last strings that i bought were bass center strings which didn't seem too bad,but that was a cheap 4 string i spent a lot of time learning on. Now i got the BTB i like the sound of it but i wondered what other people used, but i guess most people stick to4 or 5 strings lol What strings do you use? Yeah i love BTB too :-)
17. Anyone got any good string suggestions to replace my elixr's on my Ibanez btb676? I've not had to replace the strings yet and wondered what strings other people opt for on a 6 string? Cheers
18. What is everyone's take on people doing bass covers onto youtube?? Is it handy for feedback or do you think they should leave it for the stage?? Any comments welcome!!
19. So it's a custom status, and i'm sure it had more than 1 string on it from the photos i've found lol http://www.thestate.com/2012/08/12/2398183/2012-olympics-closing-ceremonies.html#.UCk6CKGPWuI
20. So i was sat watching the closing Olympic closing ceremony on tv last night and on came Muse.. Was anyone else surprised to see Blue LED's on Mr Wolstenholmes bass?? Which leads me on to my next question.. What bass was it? or has he modified one of his existing basses?? For some reason i think it an Alembic bass but i'm not too sure. Anyone else got any ideas?? Cheers Ken
21. One thing that has always bugged me is speaker wattages and wiring them in either series or parallel.. I'm looking at replacing the speakers in my 2 x 12 cabinet. I understand about the impedances and wiring in series and parallel, but the thing that has always caused a bit of confusion is what happens to the wattage of the speakers. e.g. If I wire 2 x 8 ohm 200 WRMS speakers in parallel to give me 4 ohms what happens to the wattage?? Does the wattage of the speakers stay the same regardless of how they are wired?? If they are wired in series does the does the wattage double as there is two speakers?? I hope people understand what I'm trying to explain. I've done many a search on the net not to find find anything!! Feel free to ask any questions!! lol
