I've had that on my watch list for a few days... You're safe though, spent all my money!
Cool... I'm playing a gig the night it finishes... gonna have to trust the wife to do the bidding... and she's a drummer.... I'll probably end up with a Wesley for £500...

Now... how about this...? It was suggested to be that instead of going for a 5 string beasty I try re-tuning to the first 5 on a 4 string... if you follow. Now initially I thought that might be a good way of seeing if the lower scales are necessary but then it occured to me that the B string on a 5 is thicker!! So... is it worth doing as a trial or will I miss the whole point....? I think that just answered my question though eh!
good gig then?
Yes thanks.... Jim had a few issues with his amp... but when doesn't he... It sounded like a bunch of wasps in a biscuit tin for most of the night... But as we didn't start til 11 most of the punters were to pi88ed to care... Too busy staring at Emma.... How's yer Ma?

I spent my formative years in an original band... I learned all I could and did as much as possible with them... We threw in the odd standard cover just to keep people happy but it was all about the writing ... I think we did some great stuff.. but then I'm biased... My main role at the moment is in a working covers band... (in the sig) and it's cool...... Covers DOES= cash... Being in a covers band has MADE me learn styles of playing that I had never tried before and as such, I believe, has made me a better player.. but I suppose that is for others to determine...!! Now I'm not saying that covers is better than original or visa versa... I believe they both offer a player different sides to their playing.. I also play in original outfits as well.. The main thrill for me is playing live... be it original or covers.... I just love being on the stage... I think, as long as you're having fun... the rest is immaterial.... unless you like cash...

Thanks guys.. all good and please, keep it coming.. i looked at a Squire Jazz in a local shop today but due to aesthetic reasons I didn't even pick it up.. It was ticketed at £199... That's in my budget area but I'd rather let someone else pay the depreciation.. if you know what I mean... What are your thoughts on them? A few of you have mentioned the Yammie... I may just look into that.... !

Well... I did the gig with the amp untested... the first sound it made was during soundcheck... and it stood up very well indeed.. I'm still happy... We have been asked back too... and a couple of the punters have taken details to book us aswell...!! So all is good.. I like Trace....

To be honest... John_the_bass... ^^^^^ up there... helped me unload it from my van then we went to the pub... I've not checked it at all yet.... I'll give it a thrang in the morning and if all goes well then I'll be well happy... If not then it'll be straight back to the shop and my ashdown will take its place at the gig... Embers still glowing....

I am a very happy Bunny indeed... I recently had the misfortune to have my new (18 month old) Trace 715X go down... Lights on... no sound... So I called them up and got confirmation that she was still under warranty. I took the amp back to the shop I bought it from (Soundcontrol, Leicester) and after a bit of confusion they sent it back to them for the repair to be assessed and done... Now, it took them about 2 weeks for the amp to come back and when it did I was more than a little pi88ed off... The tolex looked like it had been viciously removed and then VERY badly put back on. So bad that it was peeling off again.. The badge was scratched to high heaven, one of the corner protectors was missing a screw and another was missing completely. When I pointed these issues out to the "assistant" I was told that they didn't do it... "I don't care!!" was my censored reply "Please fix it." (also censored)... Well, they sent it back again.... On Tuesday I got a call from Poundcontrol advising me that the Trace had been returned and I could collect it... Now, I've been a bit busy recently so I was unable to collect it until today. During a lunch with my business partner today we had reason to call poundcontrol about a different issue but 5 minutes later I got a call from them. I was informed by another "assistant" that my Trace had NOT in fact been returned at all but in fact... REPLACED with an absolutely brand spanking new, sparkling, still in the box amp. Together with a free fitted amp cover, stomp box, leads and user manual... I am HAPPY.... I have a gig tomorrow too... guess what.....!!! Yeah.... It's gonna be bass driven.... I just wanted to pass that on to you all. Just in case you need to send things back to Trace... I am well happy with their response...

Ok.. so here's the thing... I've played bass for quite some time... a purist at heart... 4 strings, 1 lead and an amp... no fuss... setup in seconds... I am now of the opinion that I would like to have a go with a 5 string bass... Just to see what I think of it. What I'm after is a little advice from you guys... A cheap(ish) yet relatively good quality bass... What should I look at and how much should I budget? I appreciate there will be plenty of views and I'm open to all of them.. Cheers in advance....

Ah... 'tis a beaut... I agree though... to find any thing even near the same build quality these days with the same spec will cost a good wedge...!!
MB1. That looks like a guitar pickup? i too thought the pickup was covered!.........Homework Time!
http://www.westone.info/cats/85headlessflyer/uk02.html I'm not convinced the pick up on the fleabay Rail is original at all... but it's still a nice looking example. I don't know if it'll go for 150 though... bit rich for my pocket... Is it my imagination or have Westones been fetching more recently? There was a Thunder I in light oak going for £150 start price recently..did it sell?

That Westone III is a beauty...lovely guitar I have loads of them... my ambition is to own at least one of each model... I have recently acquired a Thunder III in the fretless version.. Still trying to get to grips with it though as I've been used to fretted basses for so long.. I think my pride is a Thunder II heelless in Pearl... Don't see too many of them around... I've been a fan of Westones since the early 90s. Are you on the westone forum? If, by any miracle, you choose to sell it then I'd be happy to give it a loving home.... Anyway... enjoy it.... Peace
