  1. Ah! Good. One more of us still going!
  2. Yes I thought that would work. I like as dull a finish as possible, so in this case all the chrome would jump out. It was a way of applying what I like about modern basses on my favourite canvas (vintage Fender).
  3. Some pictures of the process.
  4. Good day to you all. This isn't so much a build diary as a summary of what was 7 months work from November 2017 to May 2018. I received the body and neck in raw form and, almost cluelessly in the beginning, went from there. Pine body from North Carolina, maple neck from Japan. Schaller machine heads, Bare Knuckle pickup ('52 stagger pole Precision), hidden of course. Gotoh bridge with through-body stringing option. I'm not currently using that method as I wanted to draw the saddles a fair way back. Electronics from Starr Guitar Systems in Texas. Dials, plates, input, cover, nut and strap anchors are Fender parts. I sprayed the body British Racing Green and the neck and fretboard a honey tint. The headstock logo is obviously of the Fender style but in my initials, with my rank of nobility stated beneath (or alongside). Strings are Elites Stadium series 45-105. It is based on a 1951 Fender Precision bass which is the most attractive of all, I think. Close inspection would reveal amateur pant-spray work so I post photos of a slightly obscure nature! Cheers.
  5. Höör! Been to a party there once, then took the train back to Kristianstad. Also took a holiday in Ystad back in 2014, wonderful town. W.
  6. Tack! Ja, jag läste om det faktiskt, ordet 'Tjänare' för ett tag sedan. Så många gammaldags ord som man advänder på ett annat sätt i nutiden, eller hur? Norrköping. En av mina favoriter bander kommer därifrån. Marduk. W.
  7. Yeah, it seemed odd to understand people 400km away better than those around me! So it was in the beginning.
  8. Normally just 'Tjena' is what one hears (sounds like 'Chena'), an informal 'Hello' in the morning. I live in the far south where a thick accent separates the Swedish here from the rest of the country, somewhat.
  9. Thanks chaps. Seems I got a bit busy having children (two girls) as I have posted very little over the past few years. I built a bass last year. I'll post it up on 'Build diaries' and see what response it gets. W.
  10. I respond 8 and a half years later hoping all of you in this thread are still around. I'm based in Kristianstad, Skåne. Yes, 'Ihsahn' was a tribute to The Emperor himself. I no longer have the Gremlin, it just fell apart, replaced by another acoustic. Cheers, W.
  11. D'Addario XL Nickel wound : http://www.stringbusters.com/Ko-Bespoke/productlist.asp?cat=1/BASS%20STRINGS/BASS%20STRINGS%20DADDARIO
  12. Hello Sir. I like Swing '66 overall. The single best set of strings I have used was RS66LF; a very bright, cutting tone that lasted for months. However, I find them frustratingly inconsistent. Their low B strings sound always very dull which contrasts too much with rest of the set by my experience. Regarding the Rotobass Nickel-wound, they're always decent. They a smooth feel and good glassy sound scross the set, including on my 5-string. If you get a good set of Stainless Steel Swing '66 they're the best strings of them all but I have found other brands more reliable, such as D'Addario and GHS. Cheers.
  13. Hello Sister, You may well like Elites Player Series strings. They're nickel wound, nice feel with an early taper above the nut and have very a pronounced mid-range. A nice crack indeed!
  14. ProSteels for me. The low B strings have a reliably articulate, glassy ping to the tone. They're consistent, durable, available, high quality and first-class. Even the name "D'Addario" sounds refined!
  15. I use a Warwick Streamer Standard bass (2001 German model) and I would say the best strings I've used on it are D'Addario ProSteels. It's naturally a warm dry sounding bass so the scooped sound of the ProSteels suits the carolena body very well.
  16. Hey y'all, I normally go for the Rotosound Swing '66LF strings (45 65 85 105). Today they arrived in this packet! The design doesn't conuse me, it's the colour. I'm wondering whether these strings are from 1976 or something... Any ideas/explanation? Cheers, W.
  17. If I chose a particular string based solely on feel it would be D'Addario XL Nickel. Nickel rounds feel very smooth anyway but these ones, I would say, are the smoothest.
  18. Hi y'all, I think Elites strings are very decent, but I'm wondering where they are made. It's not essential that I know, just curious as to what 'made to the exacting specifications of The Bass Centre' means. I'm guessing they're not made 'on site'. Does anyone know? Cheers!
  19. 1- Watching Jason Newsted's bass solo on the Live sh*t Binge & Purge San Diego show. The look of his bass is what impressed me (Spector). 2- Rage Against The Machine's first album. 3- Paradise Lost's 'Shades of God' album.
  20. Well, some improvement has been achieved by truss rod adaptation to bring the neck forward (concave bow). The 9th fret sounds just about normal, the 14th needs more work. I'll continue with this as at seems I over-adjusted the neck a while back, slowly forcing the neck to bow at the bottom.
  21. Thanks for your responses. The change in strings was an attempt to eliminate the problem. I had .40 .56 .76. 96 on before. Now .45 .65. 80 .105. I will test the various suggestions; truss rod and fret levels and report!
  22. Hi chaps/chapettes, I'm experiencing a problem with one of my acoustic basses. The 9th and 14th frets when played on the D string buzz severely. In fact, the 14th fret has become so bad the note is one semitone sharp. If I press very hard the correct note comes out. The fretboard below the 18th fret curves towards the body quite a lot. This is something I noticed recently. A few facts: I changed strings recently. D'Addario phosphor bronze .45 .65 .85 .105. Gremlin aboutic bass, fretted (of course). Can anyone advise me on how this may be fixed? I can provide photos if required.
