  1. What a brilliant idea. I've been mulling over a smaller lighter combo option for a while and the 120 would be right up my street (been looking at the Roland 120 XL recently).

I hope this idea of yours works as well as I think it could - I'd love to review something like that, especially in a gig situation.

  2. Apologies that the first response doesn't help one jot, but couldn't help notice your sig.

I also have a TB and a Compact: how does the VT Bass work for you with this setup? I've been eyeing up the deluxe version, but probably wont have the chance to try one before buying. Your experiences would be welcome reading...

Apologies for de-railing your original question so soon!

    Cheers

  3. I had an Amber SR700 for a year or so. Beautiful piece of work, very well built, superb setup and oozed quality. However I eventually began to struggle with the very slim neck - I started suffering cramp in my left hand after extended playing, and it took me ages to realise it was the neck causing this. I'd never had the problem with other (thicker necked) instruments, and now I play J and P type basses without problem.

I'd still recommend an SR to anyone though - just make sure you get on with the neck.

  4. Firstly im jealous you are on tour - i wish iwas asking this question lol.

There has to be space for a spare head in the van, surely?

Yes, get a backup. Anything SS around 500 watts will be better than no sound if the worse happens on the night.

Dont get caught out - it takes less than 5 mins to swap heads. Ive had to before.

  5. I was looking around for a maple board P copy - I already have a Vintage V4 with rosewood, and like that one very much so they were my first port of call. Originally I was about to pull the trigger on their Vintage White with Maple, and then they released the Tony Butler version: black on black, with maple board - perfect for me. Mind you there's also something very nice about that vintage white finish.

When I first got it, the strings were too high at the nut, so popped it into my local guitar shop (Old School Guitars in Newhaven, great people) and now it's a dream to play. Very well made overall, beautiful to look at, delightful punchy sound - and I really like the difference to a Rosewood board. Gonna use it at a gig on Friday, and am looking forward to it.

    Just thought I'd say....

  6. hi

One thing ive never had a problem with is cutting through the mix with my Terror Bass. The eq appears to be passive, and typically flat will be bass & treble fully off, mid fully on. I tend to use bass at 12 oclcock, mid about 11 oclcock and treble somewhere between fully off and 9 oclock ish.

Those settings work very well with my Jazz.

I'd be pretty disappointing at a Sleep tribute with mini amps. Unless they were all midgets, that would be awesome. Now I am going to be disappointed at a Sleep tribute that isn't midgets.

Details of the Compact please! Interested.

I will be putting up a separate advert for the Compact, but basically it is one of the first generation ones with plastic interlocking corner protectors. I've also added some chunky rubber feet to the base and side. Other than that it's the same as the current model. I've had it a couple of years.

  9. Folks

As the subject line suggests, I'm parting with my Ashdown ABM500 Evo 3 (UK Made). It comes with a Roqsolid cover (black with white piping) and the Ashdown FS4 footswitch which allows you to switch Valve, EQ, Compressor and Sub Octaver.

It is only a few months old, and is in mint condition. I've been using it with a pair of Barefaced Compacts (one of which is now for sale) and it does sound rather delicious.

I'm looking for £330, and I'm based in Newhaven.

    Cheers

  10. I've been using my budget Sennheiser Freeport for a couple of years now. Never had any reception issues, and keeps my tone intact. Not in the same price, and i assume quality, bracket as the ones mentioned above though.

  11. How much?? For that price you can get a Compact and a cover. Ok, the BF may not have a high frequency unit, but even so....

Of course you could also look at the Super 15, but I prefer the modular approach of two 15s.

The BF alternatives are much lighter too.

    Cheers

PS Looking at the recent threads on here, Alex doesn't need a marketing department - we do that for him lol
