Another Bareface endorser here.
Compact is superb.
Midget is awesome.
Compact + Midget is cab Nirvana.

Oddly enough this pairing never really did it for me, so I sold the Midget and bought a second Compact. Now that is a pairing!
Cheers

I've not used any of the Orange cabs. However I have been using an OTB500 with a single BF Compact, and it pretty much satisfies my needs tonally and volume-wise. And together they weigh 17Kg. I cannot imagine needing any more volume than that on stage without completely deafening the rest of the band (along with myself). The OTB is able to supply 500W into either 4 or 8 Ohm load, and this suits the Compact perfectly.
I'd thoroughly recommend a Compact.

I've enjoyed issues 1 and 2 - when is number 3 likely to hit the virtual shelves?

+1 to the Terror Bass through my Compact: never fails to please me. Also use an Ashdown ABM500 which is a totally different sound, but just as addictive.
Both heads sound very loud through single or two Compacts. However, at the moment the TB plus one Compact is a winning combination.

If it's 500W at 4 ohms, it'll be somewhere about 330 - 350W at 8 ohms.

That sounds about right to me....

I've done exactly this with gear from Thomann on a couple of occasions, no problem.

I've found that proper setting of the input on my Evo amp has a significant impact on the effectiveness of the valve drive and the compressor.

That's a nice budget to have. Have a look at the Ashdown ABM line, and is well within your budget. There's also a new 1000 version on its way, similar price to the M6 I believe, and lighter than the 500 which I have.

I have a Highway 1 Jazz, and love it. Great solid construction, finished nicely too. It's got a tight, growly sound which I find addictive.
Alternatively, have you considered non-Fender P or J models? Some great ones to be had for the money. I have 2 Vintage V4 P-copies and really rate them.

I reckon this will get loads of interest in the For Sale section....
Sorry! -
I'm sure there is someone in the music fraternity that can get you some, although that price does seem high.
Oh sorry, I misread the thread title

Fans on my evo 3 are whisper quiet.

As ever you should give it a try before you buy. I have a TB500 which I use with a Barefaced Compact (sometimes two of them) and its a great pairing. I have lower gain valves in the amp which does give more clean before it goes into saturation. However I also like the original ones.

That's a shame mate. Good luck with the sale.

Anyone tried one of the new class D micro plectrums?

I'd love an excuse to get one. played through an ABM 500 a few times and sounded fantastic!

That's the perfect excuse! -

Does anybody know if Roqsolid makes covers for pointy blue picks?
[/quote]
Yes I ordered one but it got lost in the post. -
In my quest to lighten the load, I'm looking forward to the release of the Barefaced Pick - light, loud and small.

Are the blue pointy ones reliable? I'm gigging next week and need to know whether or not I should take a backup with me.

I've seen reports of early versions inexplicably cutting out when digging in, although it seems this is only a problem when using two 4 stringers. A single 5 or 6 stringer seems to be ok. Check the revision number, or maybe ask over at TalkBass? I'm sure there's a wealth of experience over there... -

Also be aware that the 450mm ones are actually only 236mm long. Just a heads up.

I hope the manufacturer clarifies this in their marketing blurb -
Just did a quick Google search, and these things are impossible to find left-handed. What's that all about then?

I've got one I don't use but it's too heavy to post.

Interparcel did me a great rate when I decided to go plectrumless last year. I had a custom made gloss black one which I swore I would take to the grave, but let it go. -
I have one of these. Looks and feels very high quality, and an easy player. Only negative is the strings a bit high at the nut, which I should rectify. Other than that I'd pretty much go along with the BGM review.

Thank you Phil for your explanation. I now understand a little more without having to source a turbo charged, HD Kipper.
