1. I'll see what happens on the tour and see what our sound engineer says. I have never used bass pedals before but I have an idea what to ask for. Thanks everyone!
2. I'll look into getting it set up again. Need a few more quid as it cost me a bomb last time. It's a Wal and I took it to the factory....
3. I have a brand new set of Elixers stainless steel strings, bloody lovely...
4. It's the loss of volume that I am finding a slight problem, especially when popping
5. Hi, I have recently joined a band that require me today some slap. All is good except that I find that when I do, slap, I lose volume. I have fiddled wit the eq on my old Trace top which helps me out but I am off on tour in September and won't be using my own rig. I wonder if there is a pedal that I could stomp on when the slap begins? I have a Beringer per amp I could try but ...... Anyone?
6.
Just had a listen, it's good stuff. I'd love to have a jam, but I'm 70 miles away and that's a canny schlep for regular commitment, but good luck!
Glad you like my stuff. Shame you're so far away. Could we meet halfway?
7. I am a full time singer songwriter and performer looking to build a small band around me. I have a very pro attitude and am fervently independent. I wont spin a load of bullshit, if you like my music and want to be a part of what I do then get in touch. My website is nicktann.co.uk I have attached a rough demo that will give you some idea. I am a bas player as well... I pretty much only play for money, just incase you thought....you know...
8. I am a full time musician singer songwriter and looking for another artistic avenue. I'm an experienced player, I can sing, perform, play guitar and I'm not shy. I'm looking for something original and interesting. Something that can be performed at festivals, weddings, functions and even busked! Original ideas or even just a fun function band or what have you.

10. I'd say you were doing the right thing. I did the same a few months back. Had a lesson and have been practicing loads since. It's not my first instrument but it does get under your skin!
11. The first two tracks here http://nicktann.co.uk/words-music-nick-tann/demos-and-sketches/ will give you a better idea of where I am at the moment.
12. As well as being a bass player myself I am also a singer songwriter and 12 string guitarist. I'm starting a band and want to start with the bass player and work my way up. I have truck loads of tunes, bags of experience, loads of good contacts, drive and enthusiasm. I will be looking at gigging as a two piece as soon as I find the right person. Double or electric or both, must have a good feel and be able to play across a few genres. www.nicktann.co.uk will give you an idea of what I do. There is plenty of music to listen to there. Thanks
13.
It's tempting.....
I just emailed him...
14. I bought a canvas case for mine off eBay for £7. I'm just very careful...
15. I've had nightmares going through a pa as well. I now go through an amp AND a PA. At least I can hear myself!
16. I don't get the stab b reference, but is this still for sale?
17. I will be next year...not much help but thought I'd mention it...
18. Can't help much as I'm a newbie myself also comuiing from electric bass. I can tell you that Godfrey is an absolute gent. He did a fine job on my "Hungarian". Fixed two major splits, a hole in the back, new bridge wire as well as setting it up so I can push the strings down with breaking a finger. Say hi from me and good luck. I take delivery of a bow and a little pot of Nymans this week.......*gulp*
19.
I doubt anyone here has used that pickup on a double bass. Try it in various spots around the bridge and see if any of them work out for you. I wouldn't rely on a mic solution unless you don't really need much reinforcement. For any kind of proper volume, like keeping up with a drummer or even just a couple of loud guitarists, you will likely need a pickup. Also make sure you the amp you're using can handle the high-impedance input from a piezo pickup. There are specialist preamps on the market that (amongst other things) will bump down the impedance to a signal suitable for input into a regular bass amp, but many amps themselves can't handle it and you'll get a horrible honky sound out if yours can't. So lots of experimenting to do before your gig.
I think as it's a nice cosy bar and I'm playing with an acoustic guitarist, I'll try the SM58 wrapped in foam gently placed under the bridge for the time being. I have a Trace Elliot rig that I will try and fit in the car as well my 12 string guitar as I'm also performing on my own later on in the evening..... I haven't been at basschat for a while, I'd forgotten how friendly bass players are....
20.
Interesting. I've never come across that pickup before and as it's specific to a guitar it may not be able to get down to the bass frequencies - or perhaps if you're lucky it may and you'll start a whole new trend. The vid is interesting in pointing up the difference in tone obtained by tightening up the piezo - an object lesson for those who wedge a bass bridge wing slot pickup too tightly. I'd certainly go ahead a give it a go if you already own one. I'd suggest that you blue-tack the pickups to the face of the bridge in various positions until you get a decent sound. As a second chance you could also try fixing the pickups to the front of the bass near the bridge feet. Or you could use the mic foam-wedged in the tail piece or between the bridge feet. BTW, if you're interested I have a brand new Bassmax for sale in the DB for sale section. You'll need a 5mm gap in the E string side bridge wing slot. I'll bump it.
I can't find that section...
21. Hi, I have just acquired my first Double Bass. I am playing my first gig with it this Saturday the 30th. I have not yet had a chance to buy a proper mic unit for it and won't be able to for a while, lack of funds as it needs a bit of work done in it. I'm playing a small bar accompanying a singer/guitarist. There is a pa. I have three choices, either I just shove a mic (SM58) in front of it or I do have a piezo pickup that I use on my Spanish guitar OR I could use both. Either way I'm not sure where to A) position the mic or whereto stick the piezo (steady!) Any help would be valued. I will be looking for a more permanent solution once I get more gigs... Thanks
22. I'm in a similar boat, electric bass player for years and just acquired a DB. I've been playing along with Amy Winehouse and Elvis Costello (Spike & King of America)
