So I've been learning some rather nice tunes for an audition and if I say so myself I absolutely smashed it. Fecked up in a couple of places but only another bass player would have noticed. Rather surprised they went on to audition anyone else if I'm honest, perhaps they want someone less modest and good looking.
It was at the grand old age of 54 my first ever audition, I've always either been asked or set up bands with mates in the past and I was strangely nervous as I drove over, which perhaps contributed to me messing up in a couple of places. Anyway, they were nice people and I'm hopeful I might get the call today. Fingers crossed

This forum really is full of the best people. I can't help at all I'm afraid, I just don't have the skills, but I'll be cheering from the sidelines. All you offering your time, experience and practical support, I take my hat off to you.

How much collected? 😀

I'm not sure you realise how silly that sounds...
I think maybe I do 😎

I'm interested. Let me measure my head and get back to you...
Also I'm only in Radstock so can pop over and thrust some notes straight into your hands.

Yeah, where are you? Or if you'd rather not give that away north south east or west?

Bass heaven: backing up to a wide roller door which opens to reveal the back of the stage and willing helpers waiting to lift your 8 X 10 from the back of your car
Bass hell: Narrow door miles from the carpark. Stairs.

Oh plenty of us want it! Speaking for myself I just spent my bass budget for this and next year.

Yeah a lot of love from me. Spent many years in a Specials tribute. Great band great times.

Cool little venue, played there a few times with my last band, always liked it!
Excellent. It was small but perfectly formed 😮

Talking Heads. The Stop Making Sense gig which was made into a film.
Anything with Jamerson on bass.
Anything with Norman Watt-Roy on bass.
Anything with Bruce Thomas on bass.

Wunderbar?
Reg's Wine Bar when the gig in question was on but we changed it to the Wunder Bar when we took over back in '96

Top top man to deal with. Excellent comms, reasonable pricing, very fair, honest, prompt and reliable. Buy and sell with absolute confidence. Seriously Mike is the man!

A small cellar bar in Midsomer Norton which years later I would go on to own. What made the gig special? We played a set of all original material we'd written together as a band, the place was rammed and people were standing on the tables around the edges of the room the whole crowd singing my own lyrics back at us so loud they were competing with the band. It was spine tingling.

Stevie, is your no-compromise design going to be using the Mk 2 cab as currently designed or will you be making adjustments (more than bracing arrangement) to it? Reason for asking is that I may have an excuse to get over to Bristol in the week at some point in February, so I'm thinking about placing an order with Avon Ply - I used them last time and they did a great job of cutting the panels to size. Unfortunately they're not open at weekends, and I live in Cardiff and work in Swansea so I'm a bit scuppered most of the time. So far I've not found anyone local that can source the Poplar ply and cut it to size.
+1 for Avon Ply. Good people to deal with and good workmanship.

Spencer is a gentleman, a man of his word and prepared to put himself out for a fellow baschatter. He drove a long way out of town to meet me half way and hand deliver a bass which is not merely a thing of beauty but is exactly as he described it.
Deal with absolute confidence.

She is very lovely, I hope she finds a good home.

Don't sell her. You clearly still love her. You can work something out.

That seller is Advantage Music and they also have some flats at a tenner a pack! But I can't vouch for them although I'm happy to try them out, here's a link to the ones I bought
EDIT: that tenner is an auction sorry to mislead the forum.

Certainly!
He played bass once. But he's not truly one of us. I wouldn't want him burning in a wicker man before the day was out.

Happy to report that the eBay seller posted a replacement string 1st class without any quibbles. Would buy these flats from him again - no hesitation.

Think I might ask £150 for mine seeing the speed this went at!!

2 options, poly or nitro, both sprayed and from rattle cans. You can spray nitro over poly, as I've done it. Need to prep the surface (scuff coat) and get a proper mask if nitro. Lots of stuff on youtube.
You can also spray poly over poly. It pays to practice your spray technique as easy to mess up, again as I've found out myself.
After spraying need to leave to dry ( nitro takes longer), lightly flat and polish up.
I'll have the Bass i sprayed with me at the Bash and happy to talk you through it, mind there will be others there also who are much more knowledgeable than me on this too!
Brilliant, thank you.
