  1. So I've been learning some rather nice tunes for an audition and if I say so myself I absolutely smashed it. Fecked up in a couple of places but only another bass player would have noticed. Rather surprised they went on to audition anyone else if I'm honest, perhaps they want someone less modest and good looking.

It was at the grand old age of 54 my first ever audition, I've always either been asked or set up bands with mates in the past and I was strangely nervous as I drove over, which perhaps contributed to me messing up in a couple of places. Anyway, they were nice people and I'm hopeful I might get the call today. Fingers crossed

  2. A small cellar bar in Midsomer Norton which years later I would go on to own. What made the gig special? We played a set of all original material we'd written together as a band, the place was rammed and people were standing on the tables around the edges of the room the whole crowd singing my own lyrics back at us so loud they were competing with the band. It was spine tingling.

Stevie, is your no-compromise design going to be using the Mk 2 cab as currently designed or will you be making adjustments (more than bracing arrangement) to it?  Reason for asking is that I may have an excuse to get over to Bristol in the week at some point in February, so I'm thinking about placing an order with Avon Ply - I used them last time and they did a great job of cutting the panels to size.  Unfortunately they're not open at weekends, and I live in Cardiff and work in Swansea so I'm a bit scuppered most of the time.  So far I've not found anyone local that can source the Poplar ply and cut it to size.

+1 for Avon Ply. Good people to deal with and good workmanship.

  4. Spencer is a gentleman, a man of his word and prepared to put himself out for a fellow baschatter. He drove a long way out of town to meet me half way and hand deliver a bass which is not merely a thing of beauty but is exactly as he described it.

    Deal with absolute confidence.

2 options, poly or nitro, both sprayed and from rattle cans. You can spray nitro over poly, as I've done it. Need to prep the surface (scuff coat) and get a proper mask if nitro. Lots of stuff on youtube.

You can also spray poly over poly. It pays to practice  your spray technique as easy to mess up, again as I've found out myself.

After spraying need to leave to dry ( nitro takes longer), lightly flat and polish up.

I'll have the Bass i sprayed with me at the Bash and happy to talk you through it, mind there will be others there also who are much more knowledgeable than me on this too!

    Brilliant, thank you.
